- It’s often said that life in Taiwan is cheap for foreigners, rent is cheaper than overseas, local food is cheaper and daily expenses such as public transport and entertainment are often said to be cheaper than western countries…. But in this video I am gonna spend the next seven days counting every single dollar I spend on a typical week living a life as a single foreigner here and hopefully show foreigners wishing to move here how much they can expect to budget….! (AND I HAVE A DATE!)

關於花錢買瓶裝水的問題，其實可以考慮裝濾水器，就可以把便宜的自來水變成飲用水。雖然濾水器是一筆費用，但長久使用下來確實比較省，而且也不需要一直使用寶特瓶。

I have my own house, usually I spend about 5000 NTD per week for my empty nest family(not including children’s living expenses and tuition). I saved some money for my children. I told them your budget is all here, when the money runs out, that means you have to live by yourself. 😂😂
The money for children takes major part of our expenses.

I literally have an American friend who is moving to Japan because his dollars go much further in Japan than they do in Taiwan. Taiwan is probably the 2nd most expensive country in Asia right now after Singapore 😢
I disagree, eating out in Japan especially the street food would be a lot more. Japan's dollar has decreased providing more value, however, food still costs more than taiwan. Rent however can be comparable but still slightly cheaper in Taiwan.
Japan is now cheaper than Taiwan in terms of living cost, mostly because of the exchange rate.

其實不用買水，買個BRITA 濾水瓶跟一個保溫瓶（不要用飲水機，很耗電），大約2-3天煮一次水就可以了喔。
很開心英國叔叔認識到新朋友~ 在台灣省錢有省錢的作法, 在"娛樂" 真的很容易花費太多, 不知道這周的娛樂狀況是常態嗎? 是的話建議非約會&聚會的那餐可以考慮自煮, 會省更多。日用品也可以比價再買, 家樂福常有買1送1的優惠

Good video! Congrate for new date~~~ ya. I heard JP living spending is much cheaper than in TW. but i just went travel to JP in this Feb , if you keep the same habbit like in TW(such as have hotpot for 2 adutls and take train to country side or take taxi...etc) , it's still very expensive.

I don't know how much I spend a week on average here. Never really thought about it. Some weeks I go to Costco or pay rent/bills then others weeks I barely spend anything.

If an Asian Chinese person (assuming he is single) is given a living allowance of 6250 TWD per week, his expenses would be as follows:
2000 TWD would be used for savings or investment.
The remaining 4250 TWD divided by 4 equals 1062.5 TWD per week.
1062.5 TWD is the weekly living allowance.

As a local college student in Taichung(living in dorm), I have 8000 per month from my parents, for eating, necessities, entertainment, and socializing with friends. Even if I eat biang dong and cafeteria a lot, it’s a still bit tough to survive because of current inflation.

Rent alone per week is about $14500 NTD.
Your weekly spending is equal to $518AUD. That is my rent, mobile phone, home internet for 1 week. I spend for 3 people almost $1000AUD per week (21851NT) that is paying for car, medical and full rent (we live in a disabled government housing which is so much cheaper than normal rent in Australia). We don't go or do much as we can't afford it and medical does cost me I just can't afford it so I suffer daily but not my children if they need medical I make sure they get it.
關於食物，你吃的跟台灣人相比太貴了，去一般的小吃店，便當，麵店，自己煮，你的餐費應該會減少一半，而且吃得更多

Is it easy to get a job if you only know English in Taiwan? I have IT experience but don't know Chinese or Mandarin language . How difficult will it be to get a job and adjust? What type of work do you suggest a foreigner should start out with?
Basically very difficult if you don’t speak Chinese. Come as a teacher, learn Chinese and make contacts in the industry you’re in
@@lifeintaiwan Teaching English ESL? I don't have a degree or qualifications but I do have experience training my colleagues on various IT related things. My English is good. Maybe I can do a TEFL course and teach English there? Just not sure if you need a degree. I am from South Africa so I can maybe apply for the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship to study Mandarin Chinese in Taiwan, but I am not sure if it is easily obtainable. I am a fast learner and don't mind learning Chinese, but because of the way things is going in my home land I want to leave as soon as I can and do any form of work.
物價上漲這倒是真的，但這也不是只有台灣這樣，全世界都受通貨膨脹影響，有些國外物價更貴，這樣經濟景氣下，看你怎麼吃，如鼎泰豐這樣的餐廳，也不可能常常去用餐，除非特別的日子才去會上餐館吃飯
我這週犒賞自己所以花了5000$了，大部分都現金付款所以很有感覺花錢，平常沒事一週只能花1500-2000$🥲盡量自己煮才能存錢，還要減少社交活動🤣

About 1 million USD to buy a place that is liveable, and add another 200K if you want windows. Cheap to live in Taiwan, but not cheap to be a home owner.
Good thing rents are 4x less than owning! Just invest the month at 6-8% year instead and use that to pay your rent and keep the investments growing. Taiwans home prices won't stay up forever, if TSMC builds plants outside of taiwan and other companies also build chips, real estate will drop. Taiwans population is also on the decline, tourism is still low.

This isn't a budget cost video, this is more like seeing how much money you can spend on food and leisure activities in 1 week. This isn't really realistic for a majority of people. Your salary was under 25,000 TWD but you spent 11,322 in a week. That's 45,000 month. If you drank less you'd probably save a lot of money!

I suspect it's probably cheaper to buy the bottled water than to buy water filters.
@@jay.rhoden I guess in the states it would pay for itself. $40 for the Brita water pitcher and filter. And then it's $8.97 for each replacement filter, which lasts for 120 gallons. Bottled water in Tawian must be insanely cheap.
@@rifamycin Bottled water is cheap in Taiwan, but also, I am not sure the Britta water filters can remove all bacteria.

英國叔叔你問外國人還有你自己真的不準，大部分台灣人可能一個禮拜3-5000左右，因為普遍很多人吃東西不會像你們一樣吃那麼好，而且台灣人點菜習慣看價錢，還有我們休息通常都是睡覺跟朋友出去通常各付各的也很少花費除非生日或是特別日子，我當初單身的時候一個月差不多花費一萬，因為我休假不是宅在家打電動看電視就是去爬山、釣魚，所以花費很少，而且早餐午餐都吃公司所以花費非常便宜
