It is a good many years that I had quite a lovely long chat with her at the Stables in sunny Milton Keynes and she signed a CD for my wife who had been unable to come to the concert. I have always loved her singing and | was pleased | was able to tell her that in person.
Somewhere out there in a lost world of space and time, there is a twenty three year old me, watching this on a Saturday night. My one year old son is sleeping in his crib, a golden moon and stars night light casts a soft glow above his head. my twenty year old wife is making tea in the kitchen, before bedtime. I can hear the kettle start to boil. We had no money so we stayed in and watched the Parkinson show It was a time when chat shows had sophisticated guests, who told amusing and witty anecdotes, the crudity of latter years unimaginable! The musical guests , like Blossom from a jazz background. I sat in a very old comfortable armchair with a nightcap and relaxed in the warmth and softness of her little girls voice. Now a 73year old me,sits in the same room watching this on a device that would have been from the pages of science fiction back then my 70year old wife makes tea in the same kitchen, the baby boy has morphed into a 51year old middle aged man. and the beautiful Blossom has long since departed these shores. I didn't know then that I had stepped on board the runaway express train of life, that used to stop at some stations, but has only one more station left. Journey's end.! A life gone by in the blink of an eye!
As a child, I listen to Schoolhouse Rock! I did not understand the musicality. I just knew there was something about her voice that resonated with. As an adult, I can truly appreciate her voice and her artistry. There's a certain enchantment that her voice has that takes me to a place comfort reminiscent of my childhood.
I'm too young to have grown up with Blossom Dearie. I discovered her listening to an interview on NPR's "Fresh Air" with Teri Gross. It was almost instant magic. The lovely gentle, tender and vulnerable quality of her voice and music touched my heart in a unique way, and it always will.
She wasn’t as dramatic as the other divas of the era plus she was an aberration since she also played piano. It’s like they skipped over her because they didn’t have the pre-existing box in mind. She was great though. It was a high point in American jazz songwriting too. Fun, playful, optimistic.
East Durham is not in New York City. It's 112 miles north of Times Square as the crow flies, in rural Greene County. She's a country mouse, not a city mouse.
why would you add those comments about her? She had so many things happen and was such a great composer- I feel like just the few comments trying to make her seem like a diva are inappropriate.

You are so kind! Best wishes, Gerry.
Sir, I pray that you are a writer whose writings - and memories - have been cherished by others because they certainly are now...
@@cynthiagoldstein1133 Dear Cynthia. Thank you for your very kind words. Much appreciated! Sending love and best wishes to you. Gerry.
@@mariedonnelly8385 Same to you!
I literally just discovered her and I’m so in love.
Piano Bars are making a comeback. Blossom would be a huge hit today. Her music is the best accompaniment to a lazy day in a lounge chair by the pool !
A very youthful 48 years old here.

I love her piano playing too.
Among the all-time very best jazz pianists. Subtlety & understatement. Bill Evans was a big fan.
Masterfully understated. Love the jazz scat at the end. That cute girlish voice, always.

The same thing happened to me half an hour ago when I listened to her for the first time on Spotify.

Once again, David Johansen has introduced me to genius. I had a complete meltdown while listening to this at the gym. I can not give higher praise
I've only just discovered her music. Watching from the UK.
Her song has deep emotion under skin...!
I was introduced to her as she unpacked her adjectives in a figure eight for schoolhouse rock
YES!!! Such a lovely song… quietly slipped into Saturday morning cartoon viewing. Buried treasure for some of us.
sheer beauty !!!!!
I literally JUST found out about Blossom.....I been missing out for a very long time!
I would recommend Blossom's Planet, her final cd/album from 2002 I believe. It is terrific!
Oh welcome aboard. The 3 cd / 6 record 60s collection is a nice place to start. Mostly trio / quarter arrangements.
Blossom started recording in the 1950's although her 60s FONTANA recordings are her best in my opinion
So under rated and shocked she not well known
Jazz gets almost zero credit i swear.

Oh she swell known among those who can't imagine music without jazz artists
@@breakfastsurreal5650 it certainly doesn’t get enough. But those who love music find it. The majority are passive consumers.

Blossom Dearie invented ASMR. No doubt about it
Sweet, sweet, song--thank you!
Obsessed
Thanks for you efforts💕I enjoyed hearing this.
just the creme de la creme ~
Her voice sounds similar , but not quite, to French Canadian jazz songstress, Diana Panton🧡‼️🌺 Very lovely song‼️
agreed
You just know that Parky would've really enjoyed her performance.
Thank you for uploading this
me too!!😭❤️😫

Of course, the 66 years she spent living in NYC and Paris after leaving East Durham don't count for anything.
How?

..That's Benny Hill in drag isn't it.. You don't fool me.
