    Drunk driver took out my 2006 explorer that i really liked. Just picked up an 03 XLS. Already finding out how much people love these things, they do seem pretty solid and they ride super nicely

    I used self tapping screws into the factory plastic bracket and then snipped the little ends off the screws so they wouldn't puncture anything. Then I desoldered the factory wires from the JBL terminals and soldered those wires to the new subwoofer terminals so I could just plug it into the harness. I used a BOSS speaker which actually sounded really good, but after about a year it started making a scratchy sound and then no sound. I forgot how the connector worked and now after watching your video I realized I have to take it all the way out again to disconnect it. That Hercules cordless ratchet is one of my favorite tools, that thing is a beast! I'm going to pull it all the way out and test for signal coming in and probably connect a working speaker to test to see if the voice coil is shorted or something. I'm kind of wishing I didn't throw away the OEM woofer I found at the junkyard (my car was missing the subwoofer and bracket sompletely.) Thanks for the video

      I also got the boss speaker the first time I replaced it, im not sure if i did a bad job or what but it sounded bad and kept making a rattling noise, but I bought a jbl sub off amazon and practically replaced it the same way as last time and it sounds great!

    Oh my gosh I cannot thank you enough for making this video. I unfortunately got a speaker without the fancy clamps, so now I have to try to learn how to cauterize the wires. Keep making Toyota Avalon videos! I have a 2002. Does your belt ever squeal? Mine is so loud and no matter how many times I tighten it, it still does it. Maybe something with pulleys? Also, the thermometer, the air bags, and the VSC are all broken. She is begging to be done, but I think I can get way past 300k miles.

    I used a Boss 8 inch subwoofer it sounds great, it is happy with power the factory JBL puts out and being open air.

    I worried that a replacement woofer for my stock jbl in my '01 Avalon would not work well due to the sound system's specific wattage requirements. The original sub apparently only draws like 30 watts. How was your experience with the sound overall?

    • @violetuntrainedferret5823
      @violetuntrainedferret5823 9 месяцев назад +1

      Idk how wattage n stuff works but I bought an 8” jbl sub off amazon and so far it’s been sounding great! It may be a little weak but I haven’t had a sub in my car for like a year so I got nothing to compare it too, also I think its still getting broken in

      The replacement was not quite as efficient as the stock JBL but still decent. Another solution is to put a new surround on the stock woofer.

      @ThingsBreak I had my surround replaced but it tore again lol
      Suppose I can just put a 3rd surround on

      I think its 50 watts max, but yeah, not many, def gotta get a sub that likes open box (because it can overextend in too much air since its only trunk mounted) and is highly efficient as its low power, but the stock subs good enough aslong as you get something similar it will be good. Obv its a little work and money to get anything else working in there, i will say its worth it. Atoto headunit with backup and dashcam, built in amp runs into new cheap door speakers since the old ones were shot, and another wire runs to the sub amp in the back for the 12" l7,

    • @ThingsBreak

      I don't know for sure, this model has the JBL system so if you don't have that it probably isn't wired for it because the JBL system also includes an amplifier.

    Would the JBL subwoofer also fit?

    • @ThingsBreak
      @ThingsBreak 10 месяцев назад

      Probably anything in that size would fit, there's no limit below as it sticks down in the trunk.

    Shouldve bought a single voice coil or wire the two in parallel to get 8 ohms you have a voice coil thats just dragging the working one down.

    • @ThingsBreak
      @ThingsBreak 9 месяцев назад

      I did end up tying them in parallel and got a bit more bass.

      @@nicholaspoole4442 parallel = using jumper wires to connect red to red and black to black on 2nd coil. doubles resistance (ohms) but activates both coils.
