The fact how the type r made u laugh vs driving your type s says it all. Modern day cars are faster, more comfortable and better overall BUT those older Analog cars has more emotion, slower, the noise, the steering feel. Ive said it before, its way more fun drivijg a slow car fast than a fast car fast. I have more fun in my civic vs my 1100rwhp supra.

I concur!! Current owner of a 2024 Integra Type S and previous owner of a 1997 ITR #101. Loved my 97 ITR in it's day was an amazing fwd chassis. Factory fuel cute at 8900 rpm felt like it would explode at top end. Seeing the faces of non Honda passengers when VTEC engaged at 5,900 rpm to redline was priceless. Many would ask, "won't that hurt the engine"?😂😂 Honda built amazing NA engines which lasted longer than most would imagine with consistent oil change intervals of 3k miles. Didn't like driving the ITR at hwy speeds of 70 mph with the tachometer reading 4,400 rpm in 5th gear and that's with a factory 4.40 final drive. Later ITR's final was 4.785 which means higher rpm at 70mph. Either way, both were not the greatest highway commuter cars for that reason.
The Type S is such bliss to drive in every respect. Shifts like butter with linear torque delivery and bends my mind on highway entrance ramps how hard it pulls while turning. 25 years later and I still take the long way to work and home. 😊 Well done Honda/Acura. Just don't follow Honda/ Acura current oil change intervals if you want to keep it 10-15 years or more as I do. Take care of your car and the car will take care of you.
    Cheers

Good comparison. Years ago, I discovered the "smile" factor of my newly purchased used Cayman didn't match that of my old modified RSX. Newer cars like the Cayman have compliance built in to the design, so I didn't get the raw sound of the aftermarket exhaust and header in my RSX which brought a smile to my face when going full throttle. Some got offended when I said the RSX was more fun to drive at the time, the sound of which being a more significant part of the experience than expected. Of course, I eventually got aftermarket exhaust and headers for the Cayman, so now I can rev it out and smile everytime.

I love both cars for different reasons. The ITR of course was in Honda's peak where you couldt find anything else like these at their price points. Just a fine example of the Machine minimum, man maximum Honda philosophy.
The Type-S is a phenominal car also but for different reasons. Todays cars have to cater to a much broader customer base, be family friendly, be comfortable, quiet, commuters etc etc. So making a car that checks all those boxes while still giving us that Honda goodness is an engineering challenge. They did all tha but it never fells watered down or compromised. Great job Honda on both cars.

I know a K20A is a better engine, but it doesn't feel as good or sound as good as a B18 CR imho. It's probably my favourite engine of all time. The response, the sound, the cable throttle where just twitching your big toe gives you 100 extra rpm.
An astute owner for not changing out the suspension also. I'm not sure it's possible on a road based DC2R without ruining the handling. But 15mm drop on stock springs...?! He must have cut them! tut tut! Still, probably works just as well :)

I am most likely the exception than the general rule, but cars are just not as good as driver machines as before, give me raw road feel, REAL engine noise, letting the car talk to you rather than be insulated from it.

I'm not making a judgement about the cars. You just need to look up what "mint" condition means if you're doing car videos and be super precise when choosing to use that term - especially when comparing cars in their presumably original production state. By this logic that Type S will be in mint condition in 2060 when your next buddy tricks the crap out of it.

Two completely different cars with zero in common either then a name and a logo...
The Type R was Made in Japan, the new Type S is a fancier Honda Civic made in Ohio USA instead of Alliston Ontario.
The only thing they really have in common is they both aren't real sport cars lol... Front wheel drive cars can't be real sport cars 😝.

The guy that was in charge of the ITS also made the original NSX and S2K. Go drive one

@@davelospinoso9022 Nope... I refuse to drive front wheel drive, I refuse to drive automatic and if the VIN number doesn't start with J, I'm not interested.

Great video, it makes me want the original ITR. Funny you mention NSX and S2k. I have a 2005 NSX and a 2004 S2000. I tried to buy an ITR many times when they were cheap but all had bad Car Faxes, stolen, etc.

At stock that type R is worth quite a bit nowadays. I had a gsr and it was a blast. Gotta love the higher rpm redline of the type r and more buttoned down suspension

I own one, absolutely was worth every cent. I haven’t enjoyed driving this much in years and I have averaged 50k miles a year for over a decade.

I always found driving a slow car fast and to it's limits is more fun than driving a fast car slow on an autocross track. But the newer cars are probably better in almost every way vs their predasessors. Just my opinion.

I noticed on all your reviews you kind of end off letting the viewer decide which is best. But you have just driven both so I would like to know which you like best.
It’s ok to clearly let it be known what you prefer and why. I think it would be an interesting addition.

I wonder if this is a RUclips viewership retention thing. Everyday Driver does it too. Keep it neutral to not piss anyone off and lose viewers/subs.

I appreciate the suggestion, although with cars separated by 25+ years it's hard to say I prefer one over the other. It completely comes down to use case. There's no way I'm taking a 90s car if it's a dual duty daily and track car, for example. But I will try to pick a "winner" in the future where I think it makes sense!
