The crossing finger is actually a "Time out" Symbol that Little Kids would use when to let's say Play catch and they want a break. Hence the barrier "Can't touch me" ^^

I think the largest barrier we've seen was actually when he used it to create stairs leading to the top of dressrosa. He also stated that he 'used up the maximum size of his barrier' on those stairs, so that's the limit. I feel like the 'maximum size' is more of a plot device though. He'll always have enough barrier to do what he needs to do.

Whitebeard’s Tremor Tremor fruit feels like it could be the natural counter against Barto’s fruit.
In a similar vein to how Luffy is the natural counter to Enel.
The art styles are similar and one is all about protection and the other destruction so it would be interesting to see Blackbeard and Barto have a skirmish.

Indeed, something i forgot to bring up also is if he is in a cube barrier and someone uses the Gura Gura no mi on the ground. Then he would basically turn into a pinball inside his own barrier. There are plenty of ways to get around the defense without physically "breaking" his barrier

Perhaps gravity could be altered within its confides as well. So many theoretical situational bypasses of the fruits main function.

Plus I want to mention: Luffy would be a counter to the tremour tremour devil fruit, because shockwaves do not harm rubber.

The Tremor Tremor can cause ruptures and discontinuities that defy conventional physics, just look at how he literally tilts dozens of sections of Marineford and the ocean.
Maybe your right but I think the Tremor Tremor is more than just capable of natural earth quakes and shockwaves.
EDIT: Besides would it be interesting if one of Blackbeard’s fruits was useless on the main character as the most pivotal antagonist?
Even accounting for the Dark Dark powers I think Oda would want to showcase his full arsenal in an unrestricted way.
Then again maybe it could be used as an excuse to have Luffy Be strong enough to take down Blackbeard but I think Luffy is going to grow strong enough regardless so that kind of advantage may be overdoing it.

If he can see in the cube made out of a barrier, that means light is able to travel through it, which in turn means that a laser would zap right through it. This would also mean that Kizaru should be able to just walk right into it.
But the real question is: Is it stronger than the Omni-Directional Shield that 17 uses?

The fruit by definition is literally making an unbreakable barrier so I'd wager yes. You can't break it where as with 17 you could.

There really isn't any need to add Haki, or rather his fruit gives him power equivalent to Armament Haki.

Tekking101 Don't get me wrong; Barto's barriers are incredibly strong. I mean they are able to withstand quite amount of damage. BUT with Armament Haki, those barriers basically become incredidbly hard to penetrate as it is essentially another layer of protection atop a layer of protection.
Now, do I think Oda will go all out with Armament Haki with him? Maybe, or perhaps Barto's skills with Haki aren't as refined and as a result focuses his Haki on his barrier fists so he can have stronger Barrier pistol punches.
Either way, I do believe you are writing off the the role Haki could have for Barto. His barriers are strong, but given he'll be helping Luffy out against Yokou level threats; yeah that field might not be strong enough.

Doubt it would be "indestructible" against much stronger opponents like kaido etc. Armament haki ould be a good idea in that case imo.

What about thickness? We see that Bart's barriers are pretty thick, but is it necessary for them to be that thick? IF, and only IF, the barrier has the power to negate anything, it does not need to be that thick. It just needs to be as thin as a thread of hair, or even thinner. That way he can extend the area of his power.
And just as you said, he can make a sword out of the barrier, a freaking long barrier. Just think about how lethal a sword is, and its pretty thick and not as hard as Bart's barrier. Think about a 20-30 meters (30 meters is about 98 foot/feet) thinner than a scapel. That would be pretty deadly! Also, if it's that thin, I'm pretty sure the barrier would not be invisible to the naked eye. He would just move his barrier without anyone noticing and he would slice anyone. Now we have to take into account the speed at which he can move the barrier, the range in which he can control it, and other external factors. Would he be able to cover this barrier blade in haki? Would he be moving the barrier fast enough, faster than Luffy or Lucci? Could Katakuri predict the barrier movements?( Considering he does not see the blade. I'm talking about the active prediction Katakuri showed in the manga, not that 'instincual' observation haki Kuzan showed against Jozu..I think King of Lightning, or another OP youtuber, has a video in which he talks about the difference )Could he fly using the barrier as a flying carpet?
There are lots to think about, but in the end, this is Oda's universe, and if he does not want to explain everything with logic it's his choice.

If mochi can be OP, then so can the barrier barrier fruit. With training he could do the stuff you mentioned he couldn't do, like make more than 1 barrier and make barriers in people. Armament Haki would defensively help since he his barriers can be pushed around, so imagine Armament Haki on his barriers. Plus, Armament Haki has more levels as demonstrated by Katakuri. Another thing he could is make giant barriers in the shape of fists and add Haki to them, making a homage to Luffy's Geard 3rd. Let's not forget about awakening either. Like creating armors for those he wants to protect in which they walk around in and fight freely with. Bartolomeo needs to become stronger if he wants to make his senpai the Pirate King.

In the comment, I was wondering if Bartolomeo could eventually even make weapons with his barriers, because a sword that is completely indestructible sounds pretty handy. I think that the Awakening of this fruit would be the ability to make indestructible armour covering his body, but only for a short amount of time. Say, however long Red Riot: Unbreakable from MHA would last for example as both are "indestructible" techniques.
Or, perhaps he could create multiple, smaller barriers. He could form each of these into cones to shoot at the target as a more offensive version of his "barrier crash". Think of it working like King's Chastifold from The Seven Deadly Sins in its knife form.
Definitely look forward to seeing more of Bartolomeo in the future. Interesting character; want to see his relationship with the strawhats if any.
Also want to see his development and skills set. How did he get his bounty to it's level; what kind of save is he.

I'm glad you are covering Batolomeo's fruit. It is automatically on my top five favorite DF as I love Force Field manipulation. It is a very underrated superpower and Bartolomeo in my view does an excellent job subverting the defensive, nerdy trope associated with it. Because, that power, especially within OP would be really versatile if Barto fully masters it. Barrier platforms across the sea, boxing gloves and orbs he could shoot out? Cutting off someone's oxygen supply? Yeah, he could pull a Caesar Clown.
Overall, I cannot wait to see Barto back for aside from being my favorite new character in Dressrosa, his fruit automatically is one of my favorites.

Bartolomeo's crossed fingers are, as he himself explains, a playground gesture. I immediately made the connection to a similar gesture in use when I was a kid, where we raised two fingers during games to signal that we were not participating at the moment. This meant we couldn't be tagged, slapped for losing or touched in general.
Imagine if Hatchi had this fruit. Since he has multiple hands, he could keep a barrier around him semi-permanently while still being able to fight.

They literally explain the finger cross meaning in the anime. He was acting shocked and like he wasnt defending himself and could be hit but literally fooled them or lied to them. Ppl do cross theire fingers if they lie to "make it not a lie" so they can say i didnt lie i did cross my fingers or sum along those lines....
Something that's been on my mind is how Bartolomeo came to know how his power works. When he first ate his fruit did he automatically know to cross his fingers? Perhaps he pulled a spider-man and just kept messing with different hand signs. The only other explanation I could think of was the hand sign was recorded in a book of Devil Fruits. It would suck if one day he accidentally crossed his fingers and a barrier just blows up his house.

Yeah, never played tag like that as a kid. We used the "crossed fingers" when making a promise or something to show we weren't sincere. But didn't really see a way to apply that to his powers.

Im one of those anime only guys so i dont usaly say anything due to lack of knowledge and the risk for spoilers. -Doffy's cage was covered in Haki wasn't it, maybe that is what can push back the barriers
-If air can't get through it, he could pretty much capture anyone in a small cube/cone and suffocate them if they can't move or break their barrier prison

Earth Is Not Flat Depends on Bartholomeo's Drive. If he was protecting a straw hat then his drive (or Spirit) would be too strong to be effected. If he put up a barrier for the hell of it and wasn't doing anything then yeah it could work

Another example to crossing fingers as barriers is in the younger days of our childhood where people would run around about cooties and how cootie shots or shields are done with crossed fingers. Kinda surprised it wasn't mentioned.

Haki does not "negate" DF powers, it just allows you to physically touch them even if they are Logia. Think of it this way. You use Armament Haki to punch Enel. It will connect with his body even though he is Logia. However he could still shock you since you are touching him. It doesn't turn off his power where you strike.
Tekking101 What about Luffy? He's not intangible or a Logia yet he becomes normal where hit with Haki.

I ment haki is the natural weakness to DF as stated by Rayleigh himself: "Other than exploiting their weakpoints, this armament haki is the only effective countermove agaisnt dvil fruit eaters" which he prooved by flicking luffy's forhead and causing him to feel pain.
Notice that he dosent mention what kind of DF it is, logia or paramecia (zoen is can be left out).
And so i thought since the barrier is the DF power itself, shouldnt it break with a hard enough force coated in aemament haki?
Gabriel T It's like he said the ability is not "negated" Luffy is still made of rubber but using Haki allows you to bypass the rubber quality and attack the real body as if it were never rubber to begin with. The fruit is still in effect though.
Edit: So with Bartolomeo the barrier is still in effect it's not a part of his body but an extension which is different to Luffy who's body composition changed due to the fruit, like a Logia. (Gum Gum Fruit could be a special paramecia imo)

The last time i was this early ace got fisted
New theory. Blackbeard is a old Vega punk experiment to give him more hearts to hold more devil fruit powers and it explains his intimate knowledge of the best devil fruits and perhaps he was allowed to leave as a child early teen, joins white beards crew and so on as the story goes. I remember there being a mention of a devil fruit encyclopedia in the anime at least and idk how such a gathering of information would become available besides vegapunk. Idk the details that’s what you’re for. Entertain this thought and turn it into a 20 min episode. Anyway that’s my best guess given the timeline and it not being the Cerberus fruit theory. I think that later on he might be shown being able to create shapes without crossing his fingers maybe using his toes to explain how he can create them without his fingers.
19:38 I think he can. Your idea of the barrier not moving against the punch of Elizabello is because he burried the barrier underground so making a indestructible wall. But if he makes a barrier without a holding point it would be like a shield(that's why he can punch using it as he couldn't if it was immobile). But for it to be able to create a wall inside the earth he needs to be able to "cut" the earth using the barrier. So using that theory he could cut a person in half by creating a wall in between someone

My guess for how Bartolomeo's barrier blocked Elizabeth's king punch is that the barrier extended deep underground so it could not move all that ground that would have to be move to push the barrier, with the birdcage the barrier was not as deep in the ground as he could not make the a barrier large to also extend deep underground.

the barrier could theoretically fixed be fixed because you have to push the birdcage actively to reduce the speed of the strings coming in. If you just hold a fix point the string on the opposite site would accelerated.
