    We are the knight. Not literally but more metaphorically. We crave more, so we "opened" the dark fountain using our shared determination. We are the force that drives it. If it is the vessel, we made it, we breathed life into it. If it is Gaster, we made it Gaster, it was scraped but WE kept him alive. If it is Chara, we made it Chara, Chara was just a morally questionable dead person who desperatly needed what the underground did not know how to provide nor surface wanted to provided we awakened the evil inside of them. If it is Dess, we got her to go the extra mile and keep trying to be free. No matter who it is we influenced it. The "man who speaks in hands" that the river told Frisk to beware of is us, not Gaster, we type with our hands these letters or with our hands we pick the dialogue option.

Perhaps, likewise, you can draw the parallel that WE wanted more dark fountains to get more game, therefore we're, in a way, just like the Knight

    • @doommustard8818
      @doommustard8818 7 месяцев назад +4

      @@TheSkyGuy77 My serious answer is "whoever is actually opening the dark fountains".
      Think about how all the darkners talk about their history and then you realize that when discussing the things they did before the fountain was open, they don't talk about the way they just lay limply while the lightners puppetted them around to do stuff, they talk like they had agency over these actions, and they take on a personality that makes those actions make sense. So if you use a tool to open a dark fountain than when that tool becomes a darkner it takes on a personality of wanting to open more dark fountains.
      So my version of the theory still involves a lightner with a less "I want to end the world" motive, but still gives us an epic boss fight with a guy who is just pure evil and wants to cause the roaring for the sake of causing the roaring.

    What if the Knight is… Toby Fox
    Just hear me out. Who was in the computer lab at the end of chapter 1? Annoying Dog (who we know to be Toby’s stand-in/alternate form). And in that end of chapter 1, Annoying Dog aka Toby was ‘hard at work’. Now who’s literally ‘making’ the world(s) of Deltarune? It’s Toby, of course, literally making the game.
    I think this would let Toby take Deltarune’s themes of control one step further. We’re already at the point of examining the dynamic between a player and game protagonist. But what about the game creator who made that digital world? The one who made the main character of the game, and let you control them as you please, with keyboard keys and dialogue trees? How would Kris feel knowing they were *made* to be controlled, by the will of an entity with power even beyond the player’s?
    (Also, if Deltarune’s ending is based on one of Toby’s dreams, who’s to say that he wasn’t in his *own* dream?)

    I believe that the red soul we play as in Deltarune is both Frisk and Chara at the same time, that it's kind of the entire point of Gaster's experiment. His experiment basically being that they're both used to Undertale's world having immense changes based on their choices, but will they be able to do it again in this new world after being told that choice no longer matters.
    Still doesn't mean that DR is a sequel to UT, but for those that did play UT they'd remember and would try the same things out in this new game/world despite being told that it's pointless either way, or even be encouraged to prove that choices DO matter.

  • @PrismaticatheOne
    @PrismaticatheOne 7 месяцев назад +1

    I wasn't planning to say this in the comments of one of these videos, but you brought it up, so let's roll:
    some time ago I came up with a similar theory to the one in that comment you showed. but instead of (or in addition to?) being Kris's knife, it was the knife used t make Castle Town's Grand Fountain. and that made the Knight come to life a a Darkner, or maybe as some other kind of "Dark World Being" if Ralsei isn't exactly a Darkner like the game semi-implies(or not). that's my explanation for how a supposed Darkner can create fountains: the Knife-Knight being in the light world is like how Ralsei can go between dark worlds, and it has Determination and the ability to make fountains because it was used to make one before.
    alternatively, building off of what you said, the Knife-Knight needs a lighner's help to make a fountain, either by making them hold it's knife form, or by just manipulating anyone who picks up a knife in the light world, although that one might be a stretch. it would also explain why King trusts the Knight (it's a darkner) and why Queen says that all lightners can make dark fountains (the Knight needs a lightner to do the actual making, so that's who Queen say make it).
    as for the Knife-Knight's motivations, I sort of have an Idea: the Knight is to Kris what Ralsei is to Asriel. whoever made the fountain presumably left, and whoever is telling Ralsei about the Prophecy and the Roaring and stuff is overlooking the Knight in favor of the fluffy prince. the Knight feels ignored and used and forgotten, and is using the threat of it causing the Roaring to either get back at the lightners like King said, or to force them to care that it exists. maybe that's why it's only opening one fountain at a time, because it doesn't really want to cause the Roaring, just for the lightners to have to follow it. it could even tie in to the control themes all over the game. the Knight is controlling events by leading the lightners and us on a wild goose chase, because it knows that we'll try to stop it, and that's what it wants us to do. if the Knight is threatening to cause the Roaring, then we have NO CHOICE but to stop it, don't we?

  • @ArteArt39
    @ArteArt39 7 месяцев назад +2

    One thing you might have forgotten about Undertale's Delta Rune prophecy is that besides calling the Angel the one who has seen the surface it then goes on to say "they will return", which means there's a second implicit requirement - they also have to have been in the underground at some point, which makes Asriel and Chara more likely candidates than Frisk. Not that important but I thought I might as well bring it up.
    The main thing I see pointed to when theorising that Chara's the one who discards the vessel isn't the speech sound, but the change in speech pattern in the Japanese translation, where it allegedly becomes similar to Chara's dialogue in Undertale, but idk Japanese so I can't confirm this

    • @mell7249

      @@mell7249 yeah that's why I said more likely, you could definitely still make it work, but if you're doing Occam's razor the other two get first place. Some people even say one or the other may become the Angel depending on the route, which makes a good deal of sense

    I don't fully believe it, but there are a few more things that kind of support Chara Knight.
    At the end of the Genocide route, Asgore doesn't recognize us as a human. If we expand that to Chara, Hometown monsters might not find them weird because they don't see Chara as human.
    There are a few text strings in Undertale's source code named "demona", "demonb", "demonc" and "demond". Together, they read "Greetings. You have made yourself completely clear. Understood. I, your humble servant, will follow you to the utmost..." This is obviously Chara from the mannerisms, but who is Chara speaking to here? It's not the player/Frisk, as they view themselves as a partner to us, not a servant. This is never followed up on in Undertale.
    Connected to the last point, a Knight usually serves a higher power, and is associated with religion. We already know that an "Angel" is a part of the Deltarune prophecy. Currently, Noelle is the most likely candidate for the "Angel" role given what we know, and wouldn't you know it, Noelle is the only party member who can kill enemies, and is needed to trigger the closest thing this game has to a Genocide route.

    i'm not hugely for or against chara showing up in deltarune but what you said about kris essentially filling chara's role in this story made me realize that in deltarune chara's existence could potentially be based off kris, if that makes sense. iirc they were looking into summoning demons, so if this were successful, maybe the reason kris looks very similar to undertale chara is because deltarune chara was created by/off of kris?
    (and AGAIN after 27:33) my brain cells are being microwaved right now what if the kris that we're controlling?? somehow actually is just a vessel?? that was made to look like kris ("deltarune chara")??? and replaced the actual kris chara whateverperson???? and that could potentially be a reason something seems off about them + they appear as invisible in the shadow crystal + their eyes are cast in shadow etc and there's some weird existential shit where the vessel is sentient and disobedient and- this is too convoluted and out-there even for me i think i'm starting to go insane

    I just don't think the dude's the Knight.
    Asriel Knight is a neat theory, but raises questions like all Knight theories do, plus i doubt all the asriel stuff is meant to lead to "asriel's the main antagonist AGAIN".
    I do not buy the Knife theory. How would it even work, how did the knife either become alive enough to open dark fountains or gain the power to open dark fountains in the first place? Not to mention the knife we see being used to open a dark fountain in chapter 2's ending is specifically KRIS' knife (toriel calls it such, which...is worrying), meaning if it's the same damn knife doesn't it raise the qustion of how anyone else could take Kris' knife? Nothing suggests he actually SPOKE to the knight, as he just ssays "the knight is here and he will make more dark fountains t fill the world with darkness and destroy you lightners". Hee nevers says anything about the knight telling him things, let alone says anythng about what the knight is.
    Its possible that, like Queen, he just saw SOMEONE opening a dark fountain and assumed that the Knight's goal was to destroy the darkners. So its possible he didn't get a good look at the knight, just saw a person (possibly hidden by fog) and made up his own ideas of the knight's goals cause they're things he wantedto do ANYWAY.
    (again these are points from a tumblr post and random videos i saw)
    Yes this does mean the scratches in his throne room didn't come from a fight with the knight, but other theories tossed that aside anyway, and the idea he had a fight with the knight IS just another assumption of ours so its worth considering other avenues, even if it makes me specifically look like an idiot if true.
    further addingto this, when seam speaks about the knight he simply says "a strange knight appeared...and then the other kings were overthrown". But he didn't say the KNIGHT did the latter thing. Its possible he's referring to the knight's appearance merely causing King to act out and overthrow the kings and place his son and rouxls kaard in command.
    furtermore, apparently toby fox himself even said directly that King became a villain because of the dark fountin, futher adding fuel to the idea that King was sut motivated by seing the dark fountain be made.

      I think you, or someone else, commented something like this before so I'll just lay out some similar points.
      If King hates the Knight wouldn't that cause him to be conflicted? Like, the Knight, probably a Lightner, saved him and his people from abandonment and put him in power. Even if the Knight didn't physically do this through combat, King still owes everything to them. Yet, he claims to hate all Lightners. This would imply that the Knight may not be a Lightner, or that King is confused about them as we are.
      There's a lot of emphasis in CH2 that Queen never saw the knight, only that she saw a person create a dark fountain. This isn't the case in CH1, which would imply King at least saw more of them, but even if not there's more. Queen, even from this small out of Dark World interaction, must have known this person was a Lightner, because her whole plan afterwards revolves around getting another Lightner to make more Dark Fountains. Given this is a fact, are we to assume King couldn't figure out the same? He might not be a computer (smart) but he is cunning enough to trick us by fake-threatening Lancer and fake-surrendering. Plus, Darkners seem to be able to tell we're Lightners from a glance, so why couldn't King?
      The only explanation I can see is that maybe someone left the laptop camera recording and that's how Queen saw it later? And therefore the Darkners are completely unaware before the dark world they reside in is created? But that doesn't line up with King or Seam knowing the Knight of they never entered so... I dunno.
      It's definitely not a hard and fast point in these videos, after all almost all the candidates ARE Lightners lol, but I feel there's enough weight behind it to at least consider it.
      Plus people would probably leave mad comments if I didn't lol.

    what if the knight is kris' biological mom/dad?
    -kris is human thus there must be atleast 2 other humans to birth him.
    -maybe kris was adopted after running from home?
    -the knight could be looking for him.
    -it would be the perfect plot twist.

    I'm more into the theory that we the player are the knight. By proxy that the vessel we create was given the role of the knight and acts as it. Because, keep in mind dark fountains reflect the will of their maker and castle town directly reflects Us the player both by name and the choices we make.

    • @guiltyflygon
      @guiltyflygon  7 месяцев назад

      I do like that idea that the Castle Town is a creation of our will (or Gaster's interpretation of our will), but I'm honestly not sure the Castle Town fountain can be attributed to the Knight seems how it's so special compared to the other two we've seen. Seems how it is named after us and Ralsei, the only Darkner from there, teaches us how to play and seemingly gets to cheat the normal rules for Darkners. That would also provide a reason for it to feel so different from the other Dark Worlds if they were created by someone else, like, the Knight?
      My only problem with Player Knight and why I didn't see fit to include it is that it's kind of on the same meta level as "Toby is the Knight" wherein the Knight becomes a metaphysical concept rather than a character.

      @@guiltyflygon my thing on player knight is. Toby based Dr off a dream he had that supposedly blurred the line between player and game.
      However, a piece of evidence I have for player knight is we have seen first hand thar a being without a soul can make a fountain. Kris, ripped us out and still made one plus it seems kris can only take control at night and something has been wandering around castle town only at night. I don't think this is a coincidence because our vessel is missing its soul its missing Us

    • @duskadown6751
      @duskadown6751 7 месяцев назад +2

      Like some fur stuck in Kris's sweater? We never see them in a different outfit. Or maybe Asriel's fur + Kris's sweater. Or like, cause the whole family minus Kris shed all over the place his fur is in everyplace he's been, like clogged in the shower drain. This allows Ralsei to just appear in any dark world, because Ralsei IS in every dark world. (... maybe Ralsei is all of the Dreemurr's fur collectively? Toriel works at the school, Chapter 3 literally takes place in their house) This would also explain why Ralsei doesn't turn to stone outside of Castle Town; he is native to all of them!!!! You might be on to something here!

    • @Ktoś-z4f
      @Ktoś-z4f 7 месяцев назад +2

      I originally thought that dark worlds so far have been created in places Asriel had probably been to. The unused classroom doesn't seem to be ever cleaned so Asriel's fur lying somewhere wouldn't be surprising. There are likely going to be church, QC's dinner and Asgore's flower shop dark worlds and all these places used to be visited by Asriel. If there ever was a hospital dark world according to this Ralsei wouldn't be there since hospitals are rather tidy and Asriel was never mentioned to be in the hospital. Noelle has substitute spells for heal prayer and pacify so maybe she's going to replace Ralsei on one adventure.

      @@Ktoś-z4f i think it would just manifest as ralsei! it's most likely in the old classroom or in the closet in chapter, or (more of a reach theory) kris has it on them, maybe in their pocket, and that's why ralsei always appears when they do in the light world
