Hello anyone who reads this, here I go. First off, THANK YOU, not a turtle soft gay boy, god I hate that so much. I understand people want to be think he was just SO GAY, which he could've been but stop denying the facts. Fact is, he was impulsive, and thought himself as someone who needed to be cured. He was pretty suicidal too. The musical is great but doesn't show the fact that he wasn't just a curly haired gay boy. It needed to show that he was ASSUMED in love with Hamilton, impulsive, and hated himself in some parts of his life. In truth, no one knows what the hell happened to OVER HALF his letters. They are gone or still hidden. There are many theories, he could've destroyed them, the family, father, ect. Also, I want to point out, he was VERY VERY much in this with Hamilton. He wasn't as open as Hamilton was, but he still was very very very into it. When Hamilton pulled away you know the person who started becoming protective in fear of not keeping him? Laurens. It's very very clear they atleast AT LEAST had a crush on eachother. Don't yell at me for saying that. What are those destroyed/lost letters trying to say? Why would someone go ssoooooo far to get rid of them? I also need to point out, the MUSICAL AND HISTORICAL LAURENS AND HAMILTON ARE DIFFERENT. You can NOT say that OH MY GOSH LAURENS LOOK AT HAMILTON DURING STORY OF TONIGHT LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT, is true history. Historically, there is evidence through letters. Letters saying and implying things that we will never have a clear answer on. The only way we could have a straight answer is if we found half of those letters that are gone, not likely. John Church went through the letters and published some, he probably hid or destroyed the "gay" ones that COULD'VE been a thing. I'm sorry, but I am saying could as a MAYBE. Do I believe they could've been just friends, sure. Do I really honestly think they could've been together, yes. In conclusion, please stop the gross turtle boy gay crap and please don't say historically they were FULLY a couple. Evidence is a lot, but it is hard to say. Finally, John was more than just a turtle boy. He was a strong military man, leader, and friend. Thanks for reading.
I really appreciate your animatic and how historically accurate it is. I liked how you leaned towards facts and made HAMILTON the starstruck one as opposed to Laurens (shown in his letters). I would also like to clarify to most of the commenters here that the musical Laurens and the FANDOM Laurens are two very different personalities as well. Historically Laurens was an abolitionist, with plenty of courage and military prowess. In the musical, I think Anthony Ramos did a pretty good job of portraying that. One detail the musical overlooked was that he was also short-tempered and impulsive and likely suicidal, which was only implicitly shown through Laurens volunteering to duel for Hamilton. Neither the musical nor historical Laurens was very explicit about being head over heels for Hamilton, in fact historical Laurens wanted Hamilton to get married in order to “cure” him. It’s important to note that people perceive media differently, and the way some parts of the Hamilton fandom somehow saw Laurens and thought it was a good idea to make him uwu super gay cinnamon roll turtle lover. They also ignored the evidence and made him the one that was willing to love Hamilton. Also, most people depict Laurens as a freckled curly-haired dude because that’s the Laurens they’re used to seeing. Once again, it’s their own preference of which Laurens they like more and want to see. It’s not the fault of the actors of Laurens, or Lin-Manuel Miranda, it’s the way the fandom saw him. I guess people just took him as a uwu boi because of Anthony but that's not necessary his fault either. Personally I think the fandom got a bit too obsessed with the fact that he was gay and ignored everything else they could totally see in the musical and in real history. And yes I agree that there's a huge difference between Anthony and Laurens and there's a line between these two people which people should respect. TL;DR: I believe it’s important for us to not confuse FANDOM Laurens (which IMO is terrible) and MUSICAL Laurens (which I thought was executed nicely, props to Anthony) and that this animatic was spot on with the HISTORICAL Laurens~

Exactly, I know Hamilton had an interest for Laurens, now Laurens letters where either destroyed or lost, so I don’t know much. But gotta keep in mind that back then if you were gay you would get thrown into jail or executed. And Laurens father was extremely protective about that and his kids (as in not wanting them to be “exposed” to that) so he might of been hiding it. But again, I’m not Laurens, I don’t know. My theory is that he had internalized homophobia like probably everyone that was gay had. (Minus maybe Hamilton who had no parents to control that aspect and push it down.) I’m sorry I get carried away Laurens is my favorite historical figure and I like talking about him. ^^

I'm not dishing you, but I do think Laurens was as in it as Hamilton. When Hamilton started to become distant he became WAY more protective and affectionate. I don't think the musical shows that as well as it should. He wanted him married to "cure" him as that would cure his "Gayness". He was definitely suicidal. He was ill very VERY ill and went against orders to go fight, the same day he died because he didn't listen. I do believe STRONGLY something between them happened, to what extent I don't know. What I do know was people felt a need to destroy "gay" evidence. Finally, Hamilton being raised on the island saw this all the time. Laurens, not so much.

I wanted to give justice to how John actually felt when he found out that Alexander did get a wife, so I had to create this animatic to illustrate his depression and frustration towards the event. He doesn't necessarily hate it, he's just bitter about it. And yes, he was a jealous lover, similarly to Alexander I would think. And I DO NOT LIKE THE "JOHN LAURENS IS AN UWU GAY TURTLE BOI" the toxic fandom has created. John Laurens was more than that, he was a soldier, an abolitionist and a fighter against slavery and for equality.
