You mentioned that Pablo López was homegrown, but he, too, was acquired in a trade. A rare winner for the Marlins. He was one of four prospects that the Marlins got from Seattle for David Phelps in 2017.
The Miguel Cabrera trade might be the worst trade optically, but the Christian Yelich trade is easily the worst value trade in Marlins history and there is no debate.
Cabrera trade is the worse value trade as well because none of those guys did anything for the Marlins. Also, Yelich isn't a future hall of famer and all-time great like Cabrera.
These trade videos you do are not only great in general. But they’re also great for someone like me, who just got into baseball a few years ago, & wants to know more about the history of the teams.
Hopefully this video has educated you on why you don't want to be a Marlins fan. Also, maybe Jolly will make a video so you can learn about the history of LOLMets.
This is good to hear from new fans. Welcome to baseball fellas ! Go Red Sox . !! I fell in love when i was 9 y.o in 2000 because of Pedro Martinez and Nomar Garciaparra . Then came Manny Ramirez and "Big Papi" David Ortiz ( Boston Baseball God ) . Enjoy the rollercoaster ride . !!
It’s worth noting that the 2012 season kicked off with Ozzie Guillen telling the media how much he respected Fidel Castro. That season was doomed from the start.
Was excited for this one it is truly incredible the amount of trades the marlins do and yet somehow they always dominate the Mets no matter the roster 🤣 awesome work jolly
Truly the best baseball content on RUclips. You don’t have the grating cadence of a couple other creators, you have mostly long form videos of 12-30 minutes, you cover things that diehard baseball fans WANT to watch, you get most of the narratives/stories correct when setting the scenes, and the videos are consistently the highest quality possible. Other creators have 2-3 of those things, but nobody else has it all. I love and appreciate this channel, but especially so for these trade videos. Just fantastic. Please do a Cardinals one next!
The ineptitude of the Marlins is borderline impressive. Yelich, Stanton, Ozuna, Realmuto, hell even Justin Bour and Dee Gordon, they should've had the farm system of the century, rivaling any other team in baseball. Yet somehow they still screwed it all up. I half-jokingly think MLB should appoint Theo Epstein to that franchise and just say "Fix this mess, for the love of god"
Would love to see this with other young franchises - maybe the DBacks since they won an early title too. I feel like the Jose Fernandez tragic death after the 2016 season played a major impact in the Marlins pivoting to rebuild again
MLB keep giving us these money hungry owners that never cared for putting together a winning team. All we keep getting in return is a middle finger to our faces
As someone who is not a die hard marlin fan but someone who lived in Jacksonville watching the suns/shrimp thanks for sharing how inept they can be with trades. 2010s Suns had fantastic players
This was great. Would love to see you make it a series. Dodgers, Padres, Reds, Red Sox and Mariners are teams that come to mind first. Feel like they have made a lot of trades and signings since 2000
Awesome video!! I can’t get enough Marlins history video. Maybe an idea for a future video: in 2015 when Dan Jennings as general manager takes over as manger of the team
The Marlins are that one kid that tries every sport and activity while saying “hmmm… I don’t think I like this!” Also that was the first time I haven’t skipped through a ad/sponsor in a hot second… that spoke to me and I’ll be using that code 😌
I know it was kind of a blip in time basically but I’m surprised to not hear a mention of Chris coghlan. He won rookie of the year and dipped down in production for a while but did at least have a resurgence with the cubs for years 14-16
Mr. Loria, on behalf of Tigers fans everywhere, I want to express my eternal gratitude for your stingy, inept ownership! Thank you, truly, for being the worst sad sack of an MLB owner I’ve ever seen!
such a fan of the 97 and 03 ws teams, seeing they traded miggy and willis in the same deal is a gutpunch - also crazy to see how well a lot of that top-20ish of the prospect rankings turned out compared to what they got, imagine if they could have gotten even one of cutch, longo, upton, or braun; Also stupid that they got rid of those black/white/turquoise jerseys for that 2012 one, not only ugly but changing from an identity you had through 2 ws wins is crazy
As a Mets fan the Marlins 2005 offseason was SO fruitful. I think Piazza being on his downturn made his departure easier to swallow. If you’re doing something as visible as taking a catcher out of his position at first, which failed anyway, even an 11 year old knows something’s up. Granted our squandering of the 2 seasons after the immediate is infamous and painful but STILL
I do think that including Dee Gordon's trade out of Miami should have happened, since at the time Gordon was a major piece of Miami's roster, even if he wasn't that good after. Regardless, great video!
Here's an interesting what if; during the 05 off-season, the Tigers offered the Marlins Curtis Granderson AND Justin Verlander for Dontrelle Willis. The Marlins said no. Shoulda woulda coulda.
I think the biggest and most unfortunate takeaway from this era was the tragic passing of Jose Fernandez. As just a fan of baseball losing his talent and energy was a huge hit to the game along with the Marlins organization. He was a true superstar and the Castillo for Straily move might never happen in search of depth then the 2018 fire sale also might be ditched.
That 10 player trade was perfect for the Marlins. Most of those guys were awful for the jays/out of baseball the next year or even injured. No wonder Johnson failed physical with those stats 😂
I still find it crazy that the second Derek Jeter took over the Marlins he trade their best player and defending reigning MVP winner to his former team and no one batted an eye
If you didn't know the Marlins history, you would have thought that the buildup to the Stanton signing was gonna end up in another trade and not the biggest contract in MLB history till that time. And then they traded him away two seasons later anyway LOL
Loria paid very little of the contract, knowing he was going to sell after he made his 2017 All-Star money 💰 the contract really ballooned in 2018, he extended Prado and others knowing the new ownership would pay.
I think it would have been worth noting how the Marlins made the 2023 WC and subsequently fired Kim Ng after making the postseason for the first time in 20 years (idgaf about 2020)
I understand small market baseball, you can't keep your guys around forever, but they were clearly able to spend the money because they did, only to tear things down or get rid of the same guys the very next year. Samson and Loria are literal scum, they just look so weasely and slimy and have always been as such. Shame because tons of great players came and went through Miami.
I feel like this video doesn't do many of the trades justice. It sucks that the marlins don't spend but they don't so they can't keep player around for too long. It sucks that they had to trade players like cabrera and stanton but it makes sense when there owner doesn't want to spend and I think it's unfair to look back and say that a trade was terrible if the prospects didn't work out even thought it made sense at the time, and it's important to remember prospect's won't develop the same in two diffrent organisations, so I think a trade should be evaluated when it's made, not 5 years later. I also think it's pointless to look at raw war echange to evaluate a trade as it gives as much value to an innings eater who played for 5 years as it does for a player who had one or two exelent years, and it includes the years after a player was extended, like cabrera, when the marlins had no chance of paying him this much and therefore they didn't loose value for those years.
If the Oakland A’s did not exist in their current state and two lucky but earned world series titles were won the Miami Marlins would be the saddest franchise in MLB. South Florida is a baseball heaven and the people there love this sport but because this franchise keeps kicking thier fans in the balls no one there cares about them anymore. The Marlins are equivalent to being friends with a girl who has commitment issues who but you witness their glowup over time. You are with them at their lowest and once they build themselves up you open up to them and become dedicated and then you get bent over.
You mentioned that Pablo López was homegrown, but he, too, was acquired in a trade. A rare winner for the Marlins. He was one of four prospects that the Marlins got from Seattle for David Phelps in 2017.
that's roughly 1 prospect per 2 innings of David Phelps in Seattle
Came to say the same thing lmao. Good catch
you rlly just gonna take that jolly? bro just said you're not a ball knower
Same here !
The Miguel Cabrera trade might be the worst trade optically, but the Christian Yelich trade is easily the worst value trade in Marlins history and there is no debate.

agreed reed being in a very similar situation to you. I enjoy these for the same reasons
Completly agree, i started watching 2019 and these types of Videos are very informative and entertaining.
You guys are in for a treat ! So much rich history in the sport !
30 minutes of my day includes jolly olive i’m excited
Jesus man those 2015-2017 teams had so much freaking talent and power throughout the lineup. It’s honestly astonishing looking back on it.
It’s worth noting that the 2012 season kicked off with Ozzie Guillen telling the media how much he respected Fidel Castro. That season was doomed from the start.
That's his perogative.
He's entitled to it.
@@Based_Proletariat it is the equivalent of swinging fresh meat in the lion's den, not a wise move
@@Based_Proletariat not in miami where majority of the population fled Castro's Cuba to this day people here get pissed when his name is brought up
@@Based_Proletariatremember, Miami is full of Cubans who escaped from Castro’s regime
8:48 Never in my life did I ever expect a Married With Children cameo in a Jolly Olive video
Can’t wait for part 3 of this come August!
This breakdown was a triumph of epic proportions. Congrats Mr. Olive and thank you.
these were the years I've tried to erase from my memory. thanks Jolly!
Was excited for this one it is truly incredible the amount of trades the marlins do and yet somehow they always dominate the Mets no matter the roster 🤣 awesome work jolly
Loved these Marlins videos. Thanks for your hard work putting this together! It was an enjoyable watch.
my work break has just gotten SO MUCH BETTER, love the long upload need more of this style jolly please!!!!

As a Marlins fan, good work on this video, although I will admit you said pablo was homegrown when we actually acquired him from Seattle in 2017
Always love seeing those top MLB prospect lists to see who panned out.
This video definitely took lots of research with all the trades good job
I really appreciate the time you put into this. Great video!
The ineptitude of the Marlins is borderline impressive. Goat baseball channel. Power Pros music being a huge reason why lmao

Awesome video!! I can’t get enough Marlins history video. Maybe an idea for a future video: in 2015 when Dan Jennings as general manager takes over as manger of the team
Great work! Excellent details of a weird franchise
Marlins have had so many funs teams over the years. Even when they arent good they always have some really exciting young talent
Taking me down memory lane of such good and bad times and bad trades. I'm glad I gave up on that Marlins narcotic. I'm a Red Sox fan now.
Babe wake up new Jolly Olive vid dropped, great stuff man!
Jolly you make good content thank you for the hard work brother
thank you for your work, outrageous olea
6:07 Greatest trade in Tigers history, right here!
Agreed

Great video and not many teams can say they have won 1 title
Awesome videos can't wait for the jerry dipoto series
Brewers absolutely fleeced the Marlins in this trade! I almost felt bad for them.. almost
Amazing videos!!
My father is a a lifelong Marlins fan and he refers to them as a “feeder team” for good reason lol
The biggest loss in marlins history was getting rid of the home run statue and the fish tank behind home plate 😢😢
Well well, If it isn’t my good friend the Cordial Pimento
As a Mets fan the Marlins 2005 offseason was SO fruitful. I think Piazza being on his downturn made his departure easier to swallow. If you’re doing something as visible as taking a catcher out of his position at first, which failed anyway, even an 11 year old knows something’s up.

now its time for Jazz to continue the trade prophecy
If you don't like this, you don't like Marlins baseball baby
2:00 "Shipped him up to Boston" was right there dude come on
Such a dope video 🤙🤙
You need to make a recap video of the Covid season. It’s been a few years and it feels like it’s the lost season.
We need an Oakland A’s trade history video.. feel like they’ve willingly gotten fleeced so many times
Pokemon music and baseball is like peanut butter and jelly. Bangin.
Here's an interesting what if; during the 05 off-season, the Tigers offered the Marlins Curtis Granderson AND Justin Verlander for Dontrelle Willis. The Marlins said no. Shoulda woulda coulda.
Great vid Jolly!
Would you consider re-uploading both videos into a Marlins supercut at about an hour long?
I think the biggest and most unfortunate takeaway from this era was the tragic passing of Jose Fernandez. As just a fan of baseball losing his talent and energy was a huge hit to the game along with the Marlins organization. He was a true superstar and the Castillo for Straily move might never happen in search of depth then the 2018 fire sale also might be ditched.
Ah yes, another video that unconsciously reminds me that I'm paying for that stadium with my taxes.
Only thing you missed was Pablo Lopez traded to the Marlins in that Mariners Marlins David Phelps trade! Otherwise another amazing video!
That 10 player trade was perfect for the Marlins. Most of those guys were awful for the jays/out of baseball the next year or even injured. No wonder Johnson failed physical with those stats 😂
5 minutes into the video...missed opportunity by Jolly to say that Beckett was "shipping up to boston"
No No No it Under 5'10 again I cant i love the fact that you rock with them. 😂😂😅😅😮
I’d add with the marlins / dodgers trade that Andrew Heaney was traded immediately from the Dodgers to the Angels for Howie Kendrick
Learning how big of a what if the 2018 Miami Marlins could've been... damn
the late 2000s marlins should have gone to the playoffs at least once. the power on those teams were unmatched
Powerpros success mode music goes crazy
As a Reds fan, I can never forgive Miami for trading Yelich to Milwaukee. Dude is an absolute nightmare for Reds pitching
i love you jolly olive
andrew friedmans 4D chess trade with the marlins and braves will forever be hilarious
Will you make a part three when the Royals trade for Jazz?
that anibal sanchez trade, then trade away, then extension is painful
God bless us south Florida sports fans
Jolly the goat
can you do the entire trade history of the new york mets next? :) or the atlanta braves
The greatest trade in Tiger's history
I forgot about "Mike" Stanton.
Stanton was just given to the Yankees! Granted he’s been hurt for most of that contract!
I still find it crazy that the second Derek Jeter took over the Marlins he trade their best player and defending reigning MVP winner to his former team and no one batted an eye
“Would never happen in modern MLB” I’d argue what padres gave up for Soto was of similar large value if not more
If you didn't know the Marlins history, you would have thought that the buildup to the Stanton signing was gonna end up in another trade and not the biggest contract in MLB history till that time.
And then they traded him away two seasons later anyway LOL
Loria paid very little of the contract, knowing he was going to sell after he made his 2017 All-Star money 💰 the contract really ballooned in 2018, he extended Prado and others knowing the new ownership would pay.
The best part of that gargantuan three team trade is that they all lost it
I think it would have been worth noting how the Marlins made the 2023 WC and subsequently fired Kim Ng after making the postseason for the first time in 20 years (idgaf about 2020)
AM I HEARING MLB POWER PROS MUSIC
These marlins teams gave me crippling depression as a child
I understand small market baseball, you can't keep your guys around forever, but they were clearly able to spend the money because they did, only to tear things down or get rid of the same guys the very next year. Did I miss the WAR comparison between Jazz and Gallen or was it not shown? That seems somewhat even at this point, maybe?
Exacerbated Papaya wins again!
Do more 2 part trade videos
Athletics fans should see this and have absolutely zero hope that ownership is going to spend money once they move
Man just think of a Marlins lineup featuring JT Giancarlo Christian Marcel Hanley and Miguel.lol
OREBURGH CITY LFGGGGG
Modern day Montreal Expos.
