I think I read somewhere that: The first generation of germany's ww2 fast attack destroyers had to operate at half fuel capacity cause their guns were SO heavy the ships risked floundering in rough seas.

The second story’s ship seemed like it was made by a more advanced version of the ancient human imperium from the Dayak trilogy. In those books, standard task forces were made up of battle stations the size of planetoids that had massive internal complements of fleets and supplies. The most prestigious and elite of these planetoid ships were decorated with giant armored figureheads of the imperial crest, which is essentially a King Ghidorah. The empire had millions of these ships.

If only they had visited Texas and Russia, then they would have understood humanity's love of guns, and more guns, and bigger guns. I mean we took a .50 caliber heavy machine gun and used that as the base for a sniper rifle, and also built an airplane around a gun, and have used 75mm and 105mm guns in 2 and 4 engined aircraft.
Aliens are darned lucky they did not encounter shock forces made of closed nightmare monsters from many millions of years ago or more - big and small, all teeth, talons, and hunger. Reptilian raptors and giant terror birds. And after defeat, one Terran says to the alien troop leader, "Broke into the wrong goldarn rec room didn't you?"

that...honestly sounds like it's designed operational life well exceeds it's projected technological relevancy.
that said, a "not a gas giant" sized self-contained-war-economy in one unit could actually be very practical if there were some genuine advantage to building things bigger...though by that same merit if they have the tech to do that and they have actual real advantage to doing that then there is abolutely zero reason that they would stop at "not a gas giant" for their largest vessels...probably employ a blanket "what? no, I'm totally just a black hole" category for everything they actually vaguely care about secrecy on while they are at it.
maybe nom up a couple solar systems in the initial setup stage then go about scooping up interstellar debries for most of their materials if they are in any way trying to keep building crap like this a secret...even that actually sounds pretty noticeable...heh: converting actual black holes would probably work.

Ok. Sci-fi writers need to understand something: "c" is one hell of a huge lever and the kinetic energy equation is an exponential function in which doubling an object's velocity quadruples the kinetic energy said object contains (and once you get into relativistic territory, the math just ramps up from there). If you're throwing a car-sized projectile (assuming a compact 4 door sedan with a curb weight of 3342 lbs) at say... 0.7c, that slug is packing over 13 Gigatons TNT equivalent or *260 times the yield of Tsar Bomba*. Not only is that insane overkill for targeting ships, but you just announced to the galaxy at large that not only are such weapons possible, but you just demonstrated that you're *willing to throw unguided planet-killers around like crazy*. This means the rest of the galaxy will figure out how to develop such weapons themselves and then use them to saturation-bombard every human outpost they come across as you are now an existential threat to all sapient life.
Seriously, there are all kinds of calculators available to run those numbers for free all over the internet and it would be helpful if people actually thought of the implications of what they're coming up with.

A little bit more of that, and some of these a pinch more of that...
Maybe some more of these and a handful of additional...
Let’s give it a test... Hmmm, not quite ready.
A few of those and a few more dashes of this should do it... maybe...

That trip to HD can easily result in the components required for a Black Powder shotgun and a mess of explosive devices...including the required ingredients to make the BP.
Taking that a step further, suitable metals for building a modern firearm are also commonly used in industry and thus are readily available in scrapyards around the world. Given the appropriate materials, a modern semi-automatic or fully automatic weapon with a rifled barrel is comfortably within the skillset of even a marginally competent machinist.

Smallest thing you can make that can accurately and completely copy itself, so you can have many hundreds of them, as opposed to having like 6.
