@@CalebColesMusic primarily it was offered to Katrina prior to TNT boys when she declined the offer. She will be representing Philippines supposedly. That's the reason why Dimash didn't continue the World's Best Battle 2019 because according to him he wanted to give ways to the little boys or other singers. Maybe perhaps it wasnt Worlds best because Katrina wasnt there? Maybe?

We have a lot of great singers here in the Philippines. What they similarly lack is their ability to write their own songs. They can sing almost any songs in the world, that is a fact but at the end of the day, who is Katrina? She does not have yet an album she could proudly say hers . that makes her and some other singers underrated.If she can produce her own songs, she would sing it like a pro, absolutely ! way to go Kat !

She is known to do covers of songs of famous singers like Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand and many more. She does it in higher keys. She makes the song sound like her own. Can't argue about Katrina's technical skill, agility, accuracy, it's all very impressive.
But the stylistic choices being made by this genre of contemporary music leaves me baffled. All of that note-chasing, warbling, does it have anything to do with the song? Can we even *hear* the song? What happens to the song's message? Is any of it heartfelt? Does it evoke any emotion other than admiration for vocal agility? Are we playing into a narcissistic streak in contemporary music by opting to listen to it?
Agility, used so relentlessly, becomes its own goal, the song itself, hardly noticed, merely a platform for showing off.
Dimash - I can't help but bring him up, sorry, I'm an addict - doesn't use agility in this way. It's just one vocal technique of many he employs to tell the song's story, and he lavishes just as much attention on the many other techniques he has mastered. He uses agility more sparingly, as a point of emphasis but not the song's point; the song's story is never lost. I regard Dimash as a rebuttal to this agility-dominant trend in contemporary pop, as opposed to an endorsement of it, despite his ability to use it.
I am braced for disagreement. I know my view of over-used agility is not a popular one, and popular tastes are, after all, paramount in driving the music industry. In music, we're only as right as the crowd decides we're right.
If you decide to climb on my bandwagon, Caleb, know that you'll be joining the disaffected minority. Not necessarily the smoothest path forward for a professional singer, composer and musician.
I get what you are saying. And in a clip like this, it is purely just those climax sections of the song so it is hard to get a sense of the context. I think there are two sides to singing - the physical side which could be compared to the impressiveness of an athlete; And the artistic side, which is about the emotional connection etc. I think both have their place, but as you say the dominant of the two is the later. Some vocalists in a technical sense aren't great, but are considered great because of their artistic flare (say Prince or David Bowie as two examples. By no means bad vocalists, but really it is their creativity that shines).
I think some artists do put more stock in their abilities, and so watching it is much like watching Ussain Bolt in the 100m. Seeing someone hit notes in such an amazing way does have it's place I think in and of itself to some degree. But really as you gave said - when that ability and physicality is matched with the story telling of the song, that is when it is truly magic. That might well be the case in these songs, but this clip has no context. SO in this reaction I really am just reacting to the ability and physicality side; which again I completely agree is secondary to the story telling.
I don't think that's a fair assessment, considering you were merely watching a compilation of moments of a song. Most of these upload it is like to pick out only the high notes or riffs and runs, because that is what is most exciting to them. Maybe you can check out an entire song of Katrina's before you judge. There are a lot of people who think that Dimash over does everything. Not me, I can tolerate a lot. Ha ha.
Personally, that's why I would never recommend compilations for reactions, because it's a very shallow representation of what the singer is capable of. People should just request for songs and performances, but I can't tell people what to do at the end of the day.

But this *is* a trend in contemporary pop music - more and more, the agility is the point of performances. The song itself, in the hands of a versatile, agile vocalist, can be lost, drowned in an onslaught of relentless, narcissistic show-offery.
Perhaps this was the wrong video for me to trot out my rant. You can certainly make that case. (And did.)

Another awesome vid. She’s amazing but so were both your high notes at 5:30 and 12:30. OMG! I haven’t heard any great reactions to Sam Smith despite him being one of the most awarded singers atm. His voice type intrigues me. Is he in a heady mix for like 70% of the time? It seems to me that he goes to his mix? Much lower than most male pop singers and although he sings high most of the time is passagio is lowish, like a baritone’s. I’m no expert but I’d love to hear someone who knows critique him
Yeah maybe I should react to him one time? I think he does a lot of head voice / falsetto but also has a great heady mix tone as you have said. Singers like that can be hard to tell what register they are using because they switch so often and have the ability to hit the same note in a bunch of different ways.

Most filipino singers don't really pronounce the word when belting. They will shout it first using different letters like it's easier to belt "This" if you belt it like "thes" cos you can open your mouth properly.
