I mean, yeah, the argument could be made that they just kinda shoved Ridley in for the sake of shoving Ridley in, but... why _wouldn't_ they? The most powerful hardware a 2D Metroid had ever touched before this point was a Game Boy Advance. They've never really been able to go ham with Ridley in 2D. Makes sense they'd sneak him in at the end to really let loose in a way that only the 3D games have ever managed.

Really glad they made that call. This is easily one of my favorite boss fights in the series. You just have this large, open space with a sick stormy backdrop. Then on one side you have Ridley who can both fly and has a far more fleshed out moveset than before, and then there's you with the space jump and every other power up the game has to offer. So if you wanna take the fight to the skies or brawl on the ground without restraint, you can. And it's so, so sick.

not to mention it actually patches up a few minor holes in the plot, such as sealing the prime trilogy to be between 1 and 2, giving context for how he came back in Super and how he was able to make it to Ceres so quickly after Samus and how the space pirates knew that Ceres held the last metroid, as well as slightly setting up Fusion with the post-ending cutscene with the X.

It actually makes sense that Ridley would go to SR388 himself. It gives context to why he doesn’t really seriously fight Samus in the intro, leaves Samus barely alive rather than killing her if her health gets too low, and just dangles the Baby there in front of Samus rather than immediately escaping. He just wants to torment Samus and knows that she wants to protect the baby metroid; he’s taunting her and taking sadistic pleasure in it.

And toward the end of this scenario, Ridley is about to kill the child's parents. Samus steps in right before that happens, seeing visions of her own parents dying at the hads of the same villain before her. We know he's fully recovered in Super Metroid, so why couldn't he appear on sr388 and obtain another Metroid for mother brain. Dude (3 weeks late, I know, don’t care), SHE LITERALLY HAD JUST KILLED RIDLEY!… again, but still.
And before someone says (He’s come back from nearly dying before, why didn’t Samus check). Look, if we were to look at this canonically, the last time Samus fought Ridley was Prime 3, and before that, Prime 1. Neither time had she SEEN him die, it was usually him “exploding” before Samus’s view of him would be obscured, either by the Cliffside, or by the light of Phazon (which has regenerative properties, mind you. Coupled with his own regeneration, Ridley surviving his explosion in Prime 3 is NOT improbable.). Samus has never actually seen him die, not since Zero Mission (which was YEARS ago.). Not here, not this time. She killed him, left him dead. There was no escape for him, no Phazon, no Space Pirates to help him (to her knowledge), he was dead, done and dusted. Coupled with the Baby Metroid helping in the fight, it was basically ensured that he was dead.
So please explain to me, after all of that, why Samus would expect Ridley to come back?

To me, this is the pinnacle of Metroid music, which may sound odd, but allow me to explain.
Metroid is the only videogame, where the music doesn't cheer you on, and it doesn't make you helpless, it purely creates tension. Its transparent, the music doesn't create a bias narrative, merely emphasises the true nature of what it is your going through. So this theme, being the last one, where the guitar shreds, and the voices all rise for the occasion, it doesn't make you feel powerful, and it doesn't make him powerful, it is purely tension, that no other game has recreated, and it makes me mad. This game, is so detached from any other, because every other game drives a narrative, while in Metroid dread, it keeps it as real as possible, while being a story about space lady with bird dad. Just listen to the theme of when you kill an E.M.M.I, its not victorious, it just, feels, hollow, like you just completed another task, because the victory isn't felt until you are off the planet with the parasite dead. This theme against Ridley, where you at your best, and he is at his, it creates a tension no other can match.

Biomechanoid it’s not just for fan service, it builds the relationship between Samus and the Baby Metroid, it’s very important to the timeline

It's not important to the timeline, it's a lame convenient plot device reboot, just like when they made an android of earth origin the creator of the xenomorphs in Alien Covenant
You are probably one of those who thinks every Zelda game should start with threee dungeons, one forest themed, one fire themed and one water themed, then aquire the master sword, some more dungeons, fight the fake final boss until Ganon shows up as the real final boss
If we should have repetitive elements, then at least make the games less linear and hand-holding
Don't waste opportunites, who knows when we will get another 2D Metroid, or Metroid game at all for that matter, throw in something that hasn't been done before in 2D, or make it as non-linear as the first Metroid

well, according to the wiki, "In Greek mythology, Proteus is the name of the god of rivers and oceanic bodies of water, who was known for his adaptability and versatility. Therefore, the Proteus name for Ridley is appropriate as it reflects his ability to easily recover from his battle wounds."
