Long time arcade enthusiast and fan of this arcade series. Played almost all of them but sunk most hours into 3/4 7and 8 cabinets. All the cabs are great games in their own right but some differ by game engine. It's one of the most satisfying arcade drifting games to learn. I could go on about the hardware, gameplay and physics haha. If you full tune your car or beat the story, you'll likely love this game so much you end up taking up Time Attack mode which is where this game shines for me personally.

I love that all the graphics outside of cutscenes are just wholly realistic. Fun counterpoint to the Daytona’s and Scud Races of the arcade world visually
Okay, I LOL'd when you did the "Beat your opponent, and you get to move on." line. It was like *perfectly* lip synced with the character on screen. So good. I don't know if that was intentional or not, but it was perfect!

INITIAL D! IT'S FINALLY HERE! Maaaaaaaan, these were the games that sold my partner on setting up a head to head racing rig at home, we're huge fans. Stage 3 and Stage 8 are available in arcades near us, but I've only ever played 8 at home. I'm glad to hear that there isn't a particular winner amongst the lot (though I've heard the more recent stage 0 is pretty weak) Thanks for sticking with this one man, always love to see these!

@@VideoGameEsoterica i can definately prove it, after playing it now couple hours, and then found i can save my progress, too ! it took me instant into the "tunnel vision" racing mode and i wanted to beat my opponents so hard. the control with an xbox360 controller feels like you can better drift and slide around corners then go straight. and the micro movment offering the total control of any curve situation. this arcad'ish steering feels probably better then the ultimate "out run 2", to me. indeed feels very rewarding when drifting at best and does punish you when fail the optimum. all levels seem to have "key situations" where you probably win/loose the race, when failing such certain maneuvers. they did a very good job on keeping it gripping, even if you doing anything as supposed. the grafix are bautiful, i may have a look into the whole series :) thank you, another cool game i met by you
Great video, personally I think that Arcade Stage 6 truly encapsulates the Initial D power fantasy, high speed, flashy drifts. I could honestly describe it as "Initial D Fifth Stage : The Video Game"

I've always been very curious about all the Initial D games. Most/all seem to include cutscenes , voice acting mid-race, and of course lots of menus and UI in Japanese (especially the home console games). I can't read or speak it whatsoever. God I wish they'd get fan translations.
Best we've currently had so far are menu translation mods. Voices are probably never going to be translated, too much work and most people that mod the game only do it for fun.
Initial D Arcades 1 through to 4 all got English localisations, but some basic fan translations exist for the others. either play one of the first 4 or a fan modded ID Special stage on PS2 if you want a full English experience.
lol. Man, RUclips's copyright robots are insanely thorough sometimes, it seems! I hope you don't get that problem again later.... I wonder, would Star Wars Pod Racer set off the "copyright strike" alarms since it's got Star Wars music behind it? Jeez - it sounds like a nightmare for you to navigate, so I hope not. At any rate, I did enjoy this one, so thanks for covering it! I always forget these types of racing games, but I do really enjoy 'em. It's a shame they're not more readily available in the West, honestly, or that there aren't more western equivalents (I know NFS Carbon tried to do this sort of Touge racing, but Americanized, and it was a good NFS entry). Now I feel like busting out my PS3 copy of Wangan Midnight, lol.
One thing i don't like about this game (and the next one) is how the camera behind the car is like it's stuck on the actual car. You don't see the sides as it slides, the camera is always locked in place.

It "broke". It will be out Sunday. Rare but occasionally the video goes out...and it doesnt get pushed. First fifteen minutes...reach stat was "7". Normally thats 150-200. So I deleted and will re-upload / relaunch Sunday vs unported long play :)

Not THIS I'm very familiar with VGE. Initial D Arcade units and especially with State 7. I played so many times that my hands on the steering wheel use to hurt me. I think i had more cramps in my life time playing on the machines. Ouch! 8^) Anthony..
I like this series but it's really hard to find. We only got one of the earlier Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune games. My current laptop doesn't have a 3D card need to rectify that so I can play a some Tekno Parrot games.
The mechanics do look great, with what seems like the perfect blend of speed and difficulty, without making it impossible to actually complete the course. The manga graphics look out of place to me but this is of course, a personal thing.
It's a great game. I might restart the Teknoparrot Patreon. I really like the graphics and catchy tunes. Sega should have released this for something... anything. PC or PS4. Yet another missed opportunity.
@@ArinoSeb_Gccx_QC I loved the PS3 game. I was hoping Sega would bring a modified version of one of the arcade games to PS4. Sega being over-cautious doesn't really explain it as they released so many Sonic titles. I know Famitsu gave it 27/40. Maybe it didn't sell well.
Is it me or is this game just so easy to drift compared to a wheel(like a logitech g920). This game is so fun to drift and relaxing compared to driving forza on a wheel struggling.
Would my laptop with a i74610m @ 3.0ghz be worth trying this out? Last time I played this was stage 3 on the PSP and PS3 based on stage 4. But these graphics are much better. Stage 4 was too floaty for me over stage 3

Time attack is always fun because then it’s just pure execution and beating your own bests

Absolutely. It’s probably the best drifting physics engine Sega ever made and that includes OutRun 2

It does take a minute to get up to speed…quite literally. But I enjoy the grind

Don’t worry about the language. Just race. Even understanding nothing you will love the gameplay!

I won’t touch anything Star Wars. Even music underneath voice over will sometimes flag. It’s wild. Plus I don’t love Star Wars so it’s easy

They're definitely out there. But if you want an easy home experience, you can play one of the games on the PS systems.

The manga style art is a huge juxtaposition to the realistic art style of the game itself but that’s just the Initial D style
