      @@Ejcfarley I know right!? I actually wrote to the editor of a well known UK publication (prior to Hearth releasing this video) because they published the most offensive article I have ever read from a person who clearly hates all religions and spirituality, who was never going to be invested in finding out what people really get from it. Voyeuristic and inappropriate.

      @@MissLizzy882 Me too! I saw a YT message by Jessi Huntenburg on her channel last week, and she was actually contacted by a film maker who does documentaries on various topics for a channel well known for being disrespectful, so she turned them down and asked the community to write and prevent this "documentary" from even being made. Some of us also wrote to give negative feedback about that completely ludicrous "I became witch for a week" article from around 2 weeks ago. This type of imbecilic coverage and the underlying sensationalism and disregard for the craft seem to be on the rise, and the community definitely needs more critical, informative and differentiated coverage of this phenomenon, like this one. KellyAnne recently talked about this as well.

      Being a science minded individual as well, what cross over do you find between psychology and witchcraft? I don't practice witchcraft but I do study it as kind of a hobby and I've come to believe that witchcraft seems to be the placebo effect much like the placebo effect of religion and praying to a specific deity.
      However I do believe that the mind has the power to manipulate reality in a general sense, I don't want to give that credit to any specific set of beliefs.
      Sorry, kind of long winded

    and frankly, you can use crystals and essential oils to help yourself feel better (as I do) but if youre still getting sick, you can go to the doctor. You can do both. Its not difficult

    • @screamingopossum7809
      @screamingopossum7809 4 года назад +28

      Exactly.
      People use crystals to help with chronic pain when they feel that all else has failed. If they're going to be on medication for the rest of their life to help with arthritis, why not let them do it? They're not hurting anyone and they don't want to be dependant on medication that barely relieves pain. Placebo is a very powerful tool when used right.
      Crystals won't heal your broken bones or your bronchitis, but if it can alleviate symptoms of pain and suffering, what's wrong in that?

    As someone from a Christian background, I will say that some people are openly mocking of religion of any type and they feel very safe in doing so. I've had a lot of people who will stay stuff like that about christianity where they grew up atheist and read the bible and it didn't make them believe in god or they've gone to church and it's just a really boring man saying a bunch of words and then everyone eats a cracker and it didn't make them feel anything. I think before anyone can expect to get anything out of any religion, they need to really try and make it work for them with an open mind. Not even psychologically proven therapies and coping mechanisms will work for someone if they don't make a genuine effort to make it work for them and actually put it to use. I think it's the difference between doing something at the surface level and actually, intentional doing it that trips so many of these people up

    There needs to be an equivalent "I became a Christian for a day!" parody imo, throw punches at all the bad stereotypes as if no-one watching knows any different, say prayers with no intention or love and complain God didn't "talk back", get a baptism for the hell of it, mock the "church cannibalism", only talk to controversial authors and people in priest outfits, etc. And at the end of the day conclude that being a Christian for a day was a weird nutty thing to do and "I'm sooo glad to be back in scientific reality and away from all those crosses!" See how people react! XD

    I definitely know what you mean. I am a part of alternative fashions and this is very similar to issues we run into with the media. They don't even take the time to learn about the different fashions and other things and then conflate them. Like lolita fashion and living dolls. They are not the same thing. We are not living dolls. Or there was an article that was presenting several different Harajuku fashions all as lolita and when I pointed out that this was not true a friend believed the article over me and said that I was just elitist. So yeah I really wish the media and the news was more interested in the truth than in sensationalism and othering.

    Such an important video. I agree wholeheartedly. I have a B.Sc. in Marine Biology and a Masters of Science in Wildlife & Fisheries Sciences and I practice witchcraft. If you study quantum physics, then you know that there is plenty of scientific evidence to support the existence of energetic phenomena upon which witchcraft is based, perhaps the most famous being the double-slit experiment. That blew my mind when it came out because it provided solid scientific evidence for things I was experiencing spiritually and energetically. Pretty cool stuff!

  • @nairbvel
    @nairbvel 4 года назад +14

    I lost count of how many times I was snarkily thinking, "Don't cloud the issue with facts" during this video. We live in a world where instant gratification is almost required and anything not mainstream is supposed to be "weird" or "stupid" -- in essence, the controlling factors in modern society are behaviors associated with children and young teens. On top of that, repeated studies have shown (at least in the West) that organized religion is splintering and losing some of its hold on the majority; it's no wonder that individuals unhappy/uncomfortable with that are doing their best to reverse the trend by showing how "right" their beliefs are vs. how "wrong" others are. Followers of the "big three" Abrahamic religions never seem to remember that their clergy go through years (in most cases, a lifetime) of ongoing training to reach the point of understanding & leadership they occupy -- thus anything that's done by a layman checking out a belief system in passing for a few days will seem (to these people) to be just as valid as anything clergy says & does. I'd also looove to see the reaction to a set of videos along the lines of, "I was a Christian for a day" or "I practiced Catholocism for a day"...! Lastly (at least for this rant) is that we're sitting at the endpoint of centuries of viewpoints being adjusted by those in power, sometimes subtly, sometimes not. The end result is a set of images that are relatively common to all & that make communication easier.. but that are communicating a specific image that has no linkage to "truth" beyond its intended purpose as defined by those in power. Margaret Hamilton's green-skinned, overly dramatic, wild and evil portrayal of a witch in "The Wizard of Oz" is an archetype that's unlikely to have EVER existed in reality (f'rinstance, when's the last time you saw a naturally green-skinned human) and yet when you say "witch" it's likely to be exactly what pops into the minds of even the most dedicate Pagan or practitioner of the Craft. The only solution is to keep working, to keep disseminating the truth, keep showing the very real overlap between "science" and "magic" in the real world, and keep pushing back. Witchcraft in Western society has always existed on the edge -- there's no reason it can't flourish there and keep exerting positive influence on the center. (Sorry for the rant, I actually had *lots* more to say! )

    WOW ok I LOVE LOVE LOVE you for this video. I swear its like you were reading my mind on the entire video. I seem to run across alot people that post "New,Baby witch here wanting to learn"...i love seeing this because YAY there's an interest and i try to very quickly lead them toward a more foundation building true craft and take your time to feel it and know it path ... *As long as you don't mind???...You just made the top of the list on my advisory list and I think this is a first to watch for SO many and well needed video. I'm always wondering if its just me being too harsh or just an ass when I almost want to snap at people who post things like " I just got started in the craft 2 days ago..Im looking to get into spell work, i need spells for this or that..and doing deity work ...on and on". Thanks for this Hearth! Kudos for yet another great video. 😊
    Engineering graduate here, and I also believe that you can practice magick and still be a "science person" as what most people would label. It's sad to know that most people believe in an "either/or" situation instead of an "and" when it comes to science, religion, and magick. Little do most people know that the sciences we know today actually came from magickal backgrounds (Modern Chemistry came from Alchemy, and Medicine came from Medical Herbalism, to name a few), and fail to see how one facet complements the other between the Mundane and Magickal.
    Frankly, I also find it rude how some people in youtube videos make frank, blunt remarks about the craft, taking away its solemn value to the practitioners. I see these people to either be scared from learning deeper or they refuse to accept it because they did not see it unfold before their eyes at the moment.

    What an EXCELLENT video. Informative, comprehensive, honest, differentiated and long overdue for the world to see. THANK YOU. I have been waiting for this to be said for a long time, with a heart filled with rage and sorrow, and this really helped me find some peace... I have been practicing witchcraft for over 15 years, my daughter is a witch as well. I am also a trained psychiatric nurse, I studied 4 years and I definitely do not take blood samples by wearing a pointed hat, biting people and sucking their blood. To most of the uninformed, witchcraft is simply a mix of playing silly games and believing in superstition, and this type of superficial, disrespectful videos and articles only perpetuate the ignorance and the misconceptions.

    In my friend group, they know that I practice witchcraft and the rule is, "when we're out and about, having fun, hanging out, they can make fun of me all they like, but when I'm practicing any kind of magick, you show some respect and take it seriously, or bugger off." And idk about anyone else, but this works for me and my mates so I'm okay with that. I just wish the people in these 'I spent a day as a witch' videos would have at least a little bit of respect when the time calls for it.

    It seems to me that the current fad to "be a witch" is only a fantasy fashion, and most of those who follow it will quickly tire and move on to the next craze.
    In my experience, true witches are very frequently, if not always, born "other", and never followers of the norm. It is an Art, and we are artists, never understood, usually underappreciated, and destined to be those who learn truths which are inaccessible or uninteresting to most people.

    I grew up Catholic, and still kind of am, slowly questioning things. But I started getting interested in Witchcraft since probably around 2015. Since then, I've been trying to buy books, read articles, watch RUclips videos, etc. to learn about Witchcraft. For some reason, I'm just drawn to it. I don't know if it's the aesthetic of it, or it's a calling. I feel kind of weird some times, growing up a Catholic. I hope I can REALLY be successful in Witchcraft, i.e learning everything about tarots, crystals, herbs, spells, etc. I know I can do it one day, I just hope it's sooner rather than later lol.
    Glad to join this community and I know a lot of people in the Witchcraft community are really nice. But like in every way of life, you always get bad eggs that try to put you down.

    Very good video! I have recently stepped into my craft after years of going back and forth between witchcraft and main stream Christian beliefs. Thankfully I am clear on exactly what I believe. I have read and still read many books on witchcraft and watch many videos…this is exactly what cleared the way for me to know my own beliefs. I worked a spell about a month ago…it was something that I was very inexperienced at doing but I learned so much from doing it. I was a little surprised of the results which were beyond my expectations. I value and respect my practice and in my opinion my guides and ancestors assisted me along side other spiritual beings. I think they felt my sincerity and decided to show me what I am capable of doing! Now with living my new and authentic path I am calmer joyful and confident as I keep learning new ways. I love your channel which btw has helped me so much. Thank you. Blessed be💜

    this is part of what stresses me out when i see someone ask a question about witchcraft and just get told "look on google:)" without being told that the first couple pages are going to just give you pinterest links and cosmo articles!! like typically i agree on a lot of things that people should 'just google it' lol like something simple like wondering what are the magical correspondences of chamomile or what an acronym stands for, but if they want to research a certain large topic then i think they need more guidance than 'just google it' like even telling someone what specific terms they should look up can help a lot bc not everyone is good at research so they dont know what to type into google for the answer theyre looking for

    Hi, I've been on my journey now for years. This has resonated with me on such an awakening level! Bless you! I have managed to find a school for help considering, all of the mixed information. Yes, this is hard to start out, even coming from a "crafted under the rug", aka hidden in my own family. I have asked questions all of my life, with no answers .. now after finding my direction, wtf to start? I want to thank you for in helping me in my direction!! I've wasted years. Yes, I believe too, it is time to end the confusion starting with myself. I want to help others, but like others, I was being mislead and on my way of being disrespectful (as you see in my name). My intentions are good; but in being misdirected, I personally have decided to start all back over. I have been in this start process now for about 2 weeks now. Thank you for this confirmation! I want to learn and to keep learning more, not just for myself but with the intentional research and shared experiences that will in turn help others! If you sense anything about this path, I welcome your feedback. Again, thank you for this video and thank you for sharing all that you do, and yes, I'm also researching, comparing, journalling, etc ...and following, and unfollowing some as of today. TY 😊

    I'm an agnostic/atheist that strongly believes in science, medicine, and concrete facts. I'm also a kitchen witch and strongly believe in how food and herbs influence our daily lives. I think a lot of magic takes place in the realm of the placebo effect because the placebo effect has been studied to be incredibly effective. If you're sick please go to a doctor and do the medical route. If you want to add on witchcraft go for it. Also, there is new evidence regarding fantom pain and that it can be strictly something that's in your head or a mental stress reaction. Practicing grounding and meditation has been proven to be effective in pain management.

    It’s like someone watching a brain surgeon for a week thinking that they are now capable of brain surgery. No one says a prayer to their God expecting it to be answered immediately, yet that is the expectation from these disrespectors. The world would tut and suck it’s teeth if people went into a church, mosque or temple and attempted to demean that faith; picking holes in its rituals and approach to faith. Yet, people who do not understand witchcraft, (and some are from these religions) consider it okay to be disrespectful to ours. So I tut, suck my teeth and continue to lead by example by maintaining my dignity and not stooping to their level. Thank you for this video, we live in frustrating times.

    One of the reasons I’m drawn to metaphysical discussions and videos like this is because the field seems to be peopled with those who are intelligent, can think for themselves. Another reason is the deep reverence for our Earth that witchy types seem to have. Of course I know not to assume that all participants believe in reverence for our earth mother the same as I do.

    🙌🏼👏👏 THIS VIDEO NEEDS TO BE SHARED!
    I get so offended by these kinds of videos you have talked about!!! No one says, I became a Muslim for a day or Christian for a day. Now I know these are religions and witchcraft is a “craft”, but witchcraft can be very sacred and rooted in an individual’s belief system. so, I feel that it can be comparable. If someone made a video on an religion, joked, made fun, and said it didn’t work then others would be upset. However, that’s not how it is for the pagan community. No one makes video and says I practice Christianity for a day. I prayed and nothing happened. For one, that would be so outrageous and disrespectful. number two, what would people say? They would probably say give it time, it doesn’t work like that, but because it’s “Magick” if it doesn’t happen like a fiction book or movie it must be fake And the thousand of people and years all were crazy and illiterate!
