    Bonjour du Texas Cecile! Thank you for the encouragement and inspiration to try gouache again. I agree with you that making master studies are an excellent way to learn how to use color and composition.

    Really I never thought for a minute that I could be hooked like this by the subject of your video. Until today, the Master Study was to my eyes, undoubtedly one of the least attractive subjects ever, carrying with it all the clichés and the heaviness of French Academy education. When I was a student at the Ecole du Louvre (a long time ago), I often saw people doing Master Studies in the museum, I found it horribly boring and servile, like an antithesis of creativity.
    But...I started watching your video... I stayed until the end and the time has gone by very quickly.
    Bravo Cécile and thank you for the dusting and this productive questioning.
    + I really like the texture of gouache you use, not too creamy, with some dry effects at the end of the strokes, and the way you hold and use the brushes 🙂

    I find it is never a waste of time to paint like someone else, even if it is not your style, it is a rare thing to get inside the thoughts and creativity of someone else, and the process also teaches you about industry, how most things are 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration

    Thank you for sharing your difficulties and how you grew from them as well as your mistakes and how you fixed them!
    I would love to see lots more studies along these lines. I think it would be amazing if you were to do three different Van Gogh portraits with three of your own like this and then do three someone else...Sargent, maybe? It would be amazing to watch how the third set would be different from the first, and how that consistent persistence pays off.
    Even if it's a stand-alone, this is a fantastic video.

    I loved watching you transition between colors as you move along your painting. Curious- were you cleaning your brush in water between colors or just using what was on your brush and letting it mix with the new paint?

    • @CecileYadro
      @CecileYadro  3 месяца назад +1

      When I change the color, I roughly clean the brush. I mean, it's not completely clean, just the tip of the hair. What's close to the ferrule still encloses paint. So if I want to switch from yellow to blue and don't get green I'll get another brush. In some paintings I use six or seven brushes so I don't have to clean them thoroughly.

    Great video! I liked seeing how you tackled the new portrait based on your study. I just finished a study of Van Gogh's Starry Night and Picasso's Guernica for a lesson from Minnie Small's book.
