    Yesterday I watched a clip from a video about Tibetan nuns of whom one had recently attained the rainbow body and was witnessed by another nun who was meditating with her. She told how her body started to sparkle with rainbow light and slowly shrank in size, so that at the end of the process, she was able to pick her up with one hand, as she had become so small and light. It is truly amazing and beautiful to hear these eyewitness accounts. Thank you for sharing this video with more information about the rainbow body. Nandri!

    So much misunderstanding about rainbow body. Anyone with interest might consider more about what rainbow is like, how it appears vividly from one angle, but from other angles, there is no color all. The primary colors are also primary for a reason not limited to color. Hope this can help a few in the right direction. 🙏

    Karmapa was oh- so- close to small rainbow body, as they call it. It may've been his letting a photo be taken, which would create a huge karma to dissolve/ resolve. A guru would be very displeased with this happening. Siddhis are not for showing off. I would think he would be sure there were no cameras present beforehand.

      You are correct. In general a Kagyu practitioner is usually introduced into Mahamudra teachings rather than Dzogchen. However, to be clear about the non-sectarian approach (ri-me) within the Tibetan tradition we should know that it is by no means forbidden or advised against if one is drawn towards Dzogchen even though one is formally not a Nyingma practitioner. As long as we understand the importance of following the precise instructions by a qualified teacher we can be part of any school or lineage and still practice Dzogchen or Mahamudra. As so many great masters of the past have pointed out Dzogchen and Mahamudra merge into the same result if properly practiced. The famous Tsele Natsog Rangdrol have written a very informative text on how these two teachings can be understood, side by side. An excellent English translation of this book has been done by your fellow countryman (if Denmark indeed is your home country as your avatar indicates?) Pema Kunsang with the precise guidance by Tulku Urgen himself. There’s no need to believe one of the methods lack the powers to bring a practitioner to complete liberation. Also, we know that the great lineage-holders of Tibetan buddhism receive teachings from each other and both the Dalai Lama and Gyalwa Karmapa are holders of Dzogchen lineage although they’re not lamas within the Nyingma tradition. Padmasambava himself was a holder of both Dzogchen and Mahamudra and taught extensively on both methods. It is also important to always remember that in no way does neither Dzogchen nor Mahamudra contradict the more general teachings by the Buddha. However, it is advised that neither of them should be practised before we have a thorough understanding of the basic principles of Buddhas teachings and especially the teachings on both relative and absolute of Bodhichitta. At the end of the day no matter what method we use its primary function is to remove our obscurations that stands in the way of our realisation of our true nature.
      Just to be crystal clear; there’s no special Dzogchen or Mahamudra heaven to be reached by using these different methods. I have a feeling you don’t believe that either but to others that are not so familiar with the general principles of Tibetan buddhism may form ideas about these different lineages that are not in accord with the teachings. Everything that is practiced within the Tibetan tradition is in harmony with the teachings of the Buddha and will lead to the same liberation and awakening that the Buddha spoke of.

    • @freetibet1000
      @freetibet1000 5 месяцев назад

      @@holgerdanske3960 Hello my friend. Thank you for your kind reply. Yes, that is the book I’m referring to. Although it speaks specifically to Mahamudra practitioners it has references about the similarities to Dzogchen in it as well. It is not comparing them side-by-side directly but more of a reference here and there, if I remember correctly. Excellent book by all accounts nevertheless.
      What is especially obvious with the rainbow body (Tib: ya-ly) phenomenon is its unique way of showing the world that mind is supreme and can completely control the world of matter, if harnessed properly. It completely undermines the philosophical positions of a materialistic world-view and should encourage us to really become more interested in our own potential capabilities rather than just letting life slip by without much progress and development in those areas that matters the most and have long lasting benefit for us. As such I think a presentation of the rainbow body phenomenon to a wider audience has its potential of being beneficial. But we must also come to the correct understanding around what it normally takes for someone being able to depart from this world in such a way.
      I maybe too presumptuous but I believe the reason why the Buddha himself did not leave this world in this way was to not instil a false expectation and focus in the minds of his students. His way of dying gave a much more down-to-earth emphasis on the aspects of impermanence and the truth of our lives as an illusion. All too often have people gone astray onto the dead-end path of trying to find a way to physical immortality and the Buddha clearly demonstrated that his Way was never about that kind of immortality. Such motivations should not belong to a mind trying to progress in the path of Buddha Dharma.
      Normally we don’t know what happens to the minds of those that leave us for good. It is completely a matter of faith what we believe happens after death. The rainbow body phenomenon is one of very few indicators on what can happen when we finally leave our body of physicality. Another such indicator is the unquestionable and truthful accounts given by those remembering past lives that can be corroborated afterwards. The Tulku system of incarnate teachers in the Tibetan tradition is yet another of those rare indicators about how mind transcends the boundaries between worlds and the mind/matter complexity. Although this is the reality we all share, according to Buddhist beliefs, people are generally not encouraged to focus on that kind of super-reality but rather concentrate on our present situation that is so eloquently described in the Four Noble Truths by the Buddha. Most of the time we are encouraged to work on ourselves from the point of view of our present situation both in terms of our current abilities but most importantly with our limitations and obstructing factors that prevents us from experiencing full freedom and transcendence. Much of what is taught within buddhism concerns itself around what most probably awaits us if we just let this life slip by without any concern for our long-term benefits. It is quite easy to understand why such emphasis is made when we look around us and almost all the people around us show clear signs of not caring for nothing else but their social status, careers, pleasures of instant gratification, etc.
