The first wee ride was not as bad as the second surf. Not much one can do except go along with it and hope it doesn't get to close to the wall on the left side. Probably the highlight of their day. Good seamanship all around.
It's a bit of an illusion there. They're quite a distance from the wall behind them, thankfully. You're absolutely right though about the good skippering.
@@westcoastrippers9862 the Hauraki gulf can get pretty rough, I've been out in horrible conditions, but different to the Greymouth bar. It looks like it sucks you in, then kicks you in the arse
@@jimpeers4852 I think that's a fair description. The tide was high here but sometimes the water from the river and the sea conspire to lower at the bar as a big-arsed set are coming up the rear. If there's been big rain in the high country, you also have to play "dodge the logs", as well.
Jeez, that broach and then surf the next one nonchalant as you like. Give that skipper a beer. Recreational boaters, watch, but don't try this at home.
As a comm. salmon fisherman in Alaska, this is ho hum. But, I understand the awe of normies who’ve never been in hellish seas🤷♂️ (and it don’t get any easier with time)
most important item on a boat is the shape of the rudder to all you people with small cabin boats with low cockpit soles, no freeing ports and low cabin sill, stay home
Buy that man a Beer. Well done . But coming home from sea to get through that . To unload see family relax. Dont complain about fish price. Should be more boat price anyways
Didn't even spill his coffee. Great skills, has to protect his crew & himself, the boat and the catch, in that order. Great job.
Great hull design there, and very stout rudder and steering gear, not to mention skippers competence.

Super surfing action great to watch especially in slow motion
Thanks it was a pretty wild ride the captain did well keeping it straight.
Very quick entrance . Well done skip .
Thanks for watching
Excellent footage. Bet that skipper was grateful for a rum when he got home….
Brilliant helmans work ❤
Buy that man a beer … Kelly Slater couldn’t have surfed that second ride any better !
It’s more likely the conversation was;
“Hold my beer, I got this “! 😂
I’d need to be wearing my brown corduroy pants for that one 😂
😀
Great surfing by cap! Should have turned around for another go lol
Kelly Slater Would be impressed🤣🤣🤣
That's the biggest surfboard I ever seen.
Very well done. Obviously knows this estuary. But that first broach !
I've had a fair bit of boating experience, but I don't think I'd want to cross that Greymouth bar
The fishing Boats haven’t got the speed of the smaller Boats. They just have to commit . Hopefully big one doesn’t come behind them😬

Has to be Greymouth bar ,west coast NEW ZEALAND

Enjoy every day. Cause if ya keep doing that on that boat ya won't hav to many to go
He’s normally very careful he just got caught out that’s the Greymouth bar for you.😬
Hold my cup of tea for me son… I’m just gonna catch this wave west coast style
Holly smoke he must have had a brown shorts moment then 😂 bet he's fitted a bigger rudder
Very normal looking crossing. He does that every day and wouldn’t have been worried.
We’ll done skipper👍🏾

Bonjour a vous .Bravo a vous CAPITAINE de la façon de maîtriser la VAGUE et de s en servir pour rentrer dans la passe.et le port .ADESSIAS
How many lives have been lost over the years with boats over turning.
Just curious as it looks dangerous
Over the last 30 years ten boats have capsized on the Greymouth bar which has resulted in the tragic lost of 18 lives.
Just another quiet day at the bar. 👍
🫣
Nerves of steel...

Greymouth bar has taken a few boats over the years such a long approach. Not for fainthearted.
I thought Kelly slater retired
