I KNEW there would be a downside to watching this channel. Now I want a schoolhouse to live in. Writing my letter to Santa as I'm watching this. Everything looks so beautiful there. I hope you have the most wonderful Christmas.
WOW, you could have a couple dozen kids and the house would never feel cramped!! Love historical buildings that have been repurposed rather than torn down. Well done!
Our son had an unfinished basement to play in when he was little. We lived in Northern Michigan, and it was so nice to have a place where he and his friends could ride scooters, play air hockey, build tents, and just run around. Hope your children have as much fun in the basement as our son did.
My favorite decoration was the vignette behind the old grate. That, my dear is genius! Now, I’ve watched a bit farther and you have shown us the children’s indoor play space! That looks awesomely fun. Who ever had a play space like that one? !😊

I love watching your videos so very much. They are a bright spot in my life whenever a new one comes out. You've got so many more videos you can make with your home reno, basement reno, landscaping, holiday things, history lessons, reno technique lessons, travel to secondhand stores in the area... I really think the channel has a long-term future. And I'm happy to be here for it!
Your ceilings are so tall you could put your tree on a low table (Japanese style) and still have room on the floor for the train. I love this series! So fun to watch and your progress is just amazing.
Amazed at how you and your husband have made such a big house into a lovely cozy home. Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas in your new home. From Linda Liverpool England.😀💛
I just love how you have made the schoolhouse so warm and welcoming! Even with 13 foot ceilings, it has a cozy feel to it. Magic! And the playroom in the basement is genius!
This is wonderful. Love the Christmas ornaments that your mom made as well as the stockings your sister-in-law made. Wonderful. What a hoot watching your son helping set up that train and watching both of your children enjoying drawing on the chalkboard. What a great idea to also have Santa draw them request. Also, your pottery versions of the apartments that you lived in while you were living in New York are so much fun. And oh my goodness that playroom dungeon with the swings is the bee's knees!!! Amazing.
A dinosaur appeared in my nativity scene one year, but it wasn't my son who put it there. It was my husband. 😄Oh, I love the sitting area in your kitchen!
I was scrolling thru looking for a specific video when the school house appeared. I had to stop and view it. Love watching your updates and seeing the gorgeous rooms you have created. Again, thank you for sharing your life. 💚
I'd say nearly everything in the school touching the wall and floors etc. is pretty special. The basement/gym for the kids or "wiggle room" is perfect. You've definitely shaped this school into your home. I like the dinosaurs with baby Jesus, nice touch 🙂
I have so enjoyed watching your journey of turning the school house into a home. When I was little, my Dad was stationed in Ontario Canada. The place we lived had a big open basement. Dad sealed the floor and during the winter we would ride our bikes all around it. It was so much fun for us kids.
Here is a fun idea for next year. A three layer Christmas tree. Pick a room at the front of the school visible to the road. First floor is the first section of the truncated tree. Second floor is the second section of the tree, and the roof is where the top of the tree “pokes out”. So the three sections visually look like one big tree, as if there are holes cut in the floor of the second floor, and the roof. There is a home on the north side of Chicago that does this, and it’s the hit of the neighborhood.
I love the (dungeon) what a great place to play. I'm a 71 year old special needs nanny educator, and I would kill for that space. I'd also would love to live in an old school. Your home is beautiful and meaningful. Great place for your family to grow up in.
I'm always excited to see your Schoolhouse videos pop up in my RUclips feed and today was even more so, knowing you would be showing us how you are decorating your are decorating your home for the holidays. I love that you always take us on tours and are so excited to both show us new items that you have added and also tell us about your future creative plans. The imagination and creativity which you have used to restore this building are making it really come alive and feel like it is filled with warmth, positivity, and beautiful hope for the future. It's almost hard to believe now that it was ever left to die or became an old, dusty farm storage building for livestock and junk. I can see how much fun it's going to be each year for you to decorate your home with the decorations you have now and then with all the new items as you discover what you want to add each year. Your home is so large, I cannot imagine you could ever completely fill it ... and as the kids grow they will have such great fun adding what they love too! The special tree ornaments that your mom made are absolutely precious ... and the meaning behind them is so special! What a fabulous idea for the basement to have an activity and play area! Your home is perfect for keeping active during the Indiana winters, rainy days, and every day!
The felt ornaments are awesome, and in keeping with early 20th Century Christmas decorations (homemade). The turkey scene is adorable. You have the perfect big windows to hang big wreaths from big, velvet ribbons, with big velvet bows. When I worked at St. Francis Beech Grove, each floor would do their own little Christmas vignettes in the lobby, so maybe you could use your now-too-small items in vignettes around the school. Your pottery city buildings are awesome! You totally have the space to start collecting Christmas village pieces and making a couple villages named after your kids. I can envision a dinosaur invasion there too.
Merry Christmas! And thanks Stacy! You know, you have many many years to fill the schoolhouse for the holidays. What you've done looks lovely and is full of so many memories and connections that it's perfect. Take your time. You do such a great job sort of gatekeeping what you add to your home to make sure everything has a connection or meaning. Just roll with that, it's great. (Also, any chance you could give us a hint or two about what's up with the windows/doors that's in the way of adding trim? I'm getting curiouser and curiouser.)
thank you so much!! On the windows, I'll definitely be giving an update eventually. It's been pretty miserable getting things sorted and they have to be reinstalled a third time. I will definitely be giving an update when I can and hopefully it's soon!
@@Schoolhousehomestead Oh I'm so sorry that's going to have to happen with the windows. I imagine you'll wait for warmer months. I didn't mean to bring up a sore topic, please ignore me!
A giant reef off the roof in the middle, lights around roof, front of stairs, around windows...theres so much to make it even more magical 😂 the special name cupboard , seal Seans name even with perspex
I think that the school house has become a school home, plus the school is happy to have children's laughter and energy again. Well that's the vibe I get when I watch your wonderful cozy videos. 🌲🦃💞
What a sweet and beautiful gift from your mom 🥰 Love the whimsical scene you created behind the grate - so creative! And as a lifetime Michigander, that basement play area is 🤌👏
Awww your ornaments are so sweet!! The old retro decorations are perfect for your fabulous home too. The dinosaurs are a special touch 😂🦖 🥰 You have found some of the coolest items to add to each space! I love your taste!
LOVE everything!! the tree, Mom's special animal ornaments, the awesome chalk board, the adorable Turkey fairy nook, the hand knitted stockings, your Christmas house village and the dungeon jungle gym!!
Love your home. Everyone has done a great job. All the special little touches are great. When you get the whole community involved, it becomes a museum.
The house is really shaping up. A few suggestions. The lights you have outlining the doorways and going downstairs would look more in proportion to the house if they were 3 times the width or more and swagged. The school chairs would look great with soft sculptures of full size children. You could lay out old school primers on he desk and pose the sculptures like they are holding the primers. The kids could be dressed in period clothing. Feel free to ignore my suggestions. They reflect my taste and I know you have the confidence and creativity to make the school house into your vision. Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year to you and your family!🎄
😊 Thankyou for this Fantabulous video and tour. I can imagine the Many Many happy smiles of the people who drive by and see the schoolhouse Alive and Cherished again. Sean's name in the cupboard is weepy special. Happy Blessed Holidays!! 💛
Love this transformation. Awesome job! Decoration Idea: Santa climbing up a ladder on the side of the house with the reindeer and sleigh waiting on the roof? Happy Holidays!
I miss my Indiana home even after moving 9 years ago. You bring some much needed comfort by showing your talent. The Schoolhouse is lovely!! Merry Christmas and best wishes in the new year!
Thanks for the tour! You're making a beautiful home out of this old schoolhouse. Kudos to you and your husband for saving and breathing new life into this piece of history!
I am so completely jealous of what you have! I went to third grade in an old school building in Montvale, NJ (imaginatively known as School No, 2) and have always had pipe dreams of turning it into a home. It's been changed into a library in the past and may not even exist anymore, but I dream of it every time I watch one of your videos Everything you have done is great, but that little cabinet from your own elementary school - that is the heart and soul of what you are doing. Thank you for sharing.
You are so amazing! I love how you appreciate all the people & experiences in your life. For instance, giving props to all those who did a job for you (big & small), anyone who donated items to you related to the school'shistory, but especially, the pottery buildings of places you've lived in the past. You're so creative & I wish you & your family much happiness in your lives. You certainly deserve it.
Your tiny alcove diorama is wonderful! ❤ It reminds me of a similar setup in my own elementary school. The School secretary would decorate the usually empty "trophy case" across from the school office for Christmas every year. It was pretty elaborate and was basically a cutaway view of Santa's house with rooms connected by tiny staircases, in which the elves would build toys and do other "elf" activities. It was very sweet, and we always thought that the secretary, Mrs Sams, was pretty awesome anyway, and her handiwork just cemented our opinion. Thanks for stirring up a lovely old memory 😊
This is absolutely incredible. The amount of work involved in pulling all of this together is mind boggling. AND you have two toddlers. You are amazing.
You have done a wonderful job filling up that huge space with beautiful, sentimental and meaningful decor! I absolutely LOVE the ornaments your mom made, the chalkboard and the swings in the basement. I think putting wreaths in all the windows would be stunning at Christmas. Merry Christmas to you all!
thank you so much!! I'm hoping I can snag some wreaths after stuff gets marked down... otherwise will make some next year. :D Merry Christmas to you too!
You should get those permanent holiday lights installed (ie oelo lighting) who wants to put up Christmas lights every year. Plus you can use them for all other holidays
Geeze you could have gone twice that size for the tree with those high ceilings. 😁 Reindeer and Sleigh display on the roof would be a fantastic attraction for parents to drive by with their kids. I can imagine my parents when I was little driving us by (so one of them could bring out the presents) and telling us look Santa is here making deliveries! Then heading back home to find all the presents under the tree. You don't need a Santa, he's inside already. Or if you wanted to get creative, a fake Chimney with two mechanized legs in red pants and boots sticking out and kicking. Margo looks like mom, and perhaps some of the same personality.
Insanely amazing home ! What a dream . And, all the thought you have put into keeping it “ schoolhouse-ish “ makes it all the better . This school deserved owners like you !!
I love everything that you have accomplished. It's amazing I love the color of the green that you chose.A lot of hard work is finally paying off beautiful job❤❤
The school is beautiful! You have done a great job turning it into your home! And what child wouldn't love the basement playroom, especially in winter! 😍
I love the ornaments your mom made💓 The whole family could make the snow flakes like kids make in art class in school and put them in the windows or hang them in the front foryay. It would be a nice crafting activity. Also some poinsettia plants weather real or fake on the sides of the steps of the frount inside steps.
It’s just lovely! It may be expensive, but I thought of a single candle in each of the windows or maybe a wreath on the outside of the windows. I remember seeing this when I was in New England at Christmastime and it looked beautiful. It’s a charming home and I love that you’ve honored what the building was through the years ❤
Put Buddie the Elf flying on your ceiling fan in your living room. The kiddos would love it.. I saw someone do that and that it was a cute idea 😂 Oh how I wish Elf on the shelf was here 35 years ago when I had a child at home. Your home is so beautiful. Love the tours.
It is nice to visit a Fairytale Mansion that is an historic Schoolhouse - RUclips Channel! Love how it looks and feels! Thank you for keeping us informed! Merry Christmas and an epically awesome New Year! B~}
This looks great!!! Love the play area in the basement. I love what hand made things from the orements to the stockings. Good job on remodeling your home. I bet the school house is happy, because life lives in it and not just any life. I hope you grow old there and have the best life possible.
You've made this into such a beautiful home, I feel like I need to go back to the beginning again to remember what is was like. The playroom/dungeon is such an amazing space! The decorations are so lovely too😊
This has been an amazing journey for your family! Such a lovely treat to follow along with your project. I attended Shawnee Mound R13 in mid-MO, through 8th grade in the 60s. It fell victim to theft of lunch/milk money then was set ablaze. Following along with you has been heartwarming and joyous as many wonderful memories were stirred within. Blessings to you and your family as you continue to settle into your home. Cheers! ❤
Happy holidays to you and your family! I'm so happy you are moved into your wonderful schoolhouse. It's been so special watching the process. Thanks for sharing it with us! May your home house many wonderful times together making more memories. Best!
I love the old school artwork, you could put them in shadow boxes to protect them. If you used archival glass, it would protect them from harmful light that would cause damage to the paper/canvas. Like many, I have dreamed of turning a school into a home, but all of our children are out of the house and that much space is beyond our needs...I'm so glad you are making your dream come true. Merry Christmas from Illinois.
I love watching to see what you've done lately. I went to a two room elementary (grade) school for the first 7 years. Actually, I went to kindergarten for a WHOLE WEEK! All I remember is Donnie colored his horse purple, which made all of us laugh. Christmas programs were so much fun, because a large stage (with curtains) was set up in one room. I was a good fairy one year, trying to save a tree from being cut down. We even had minstrel shows (Heavens! That wouldn't go over now!) One year my brother was Santa, and he made our neighbor boy beg for his candy. We learned to square dance during recesses in the winter, and jumped rope in the spring. If your boot got stuck in the mud when you jumped up, so much more fun! My year as an eighth grader was in a one room school, with no indoor toilets and no running water. The boys had to go to the neighbors for a bucket of water, which was put into a crock for our use. Would never pass with state inspections now. This was in the early 60's. We had a wonderful teacher who taught us so much. Of the 10 kids in my class, three of us were in the top 10 in the county! Winter was fun--we could work on the blackboard behind the big heater. So your videos bring back lots of memories. Your home is beautiful! Enjoy and Merry Christmas to all of you1
You have done an awesome, beautiful job on your home. It’s absolutely gorgeous! Needless to say I love it! You all are so talented and hard workers. Great job decorating. 🎄🎄🎄
My Brothers and Sisters would play in our basement all the time. It had a second Kitchen and laundry room combo where you could shut doors in Winter for privacy and warmth as the stove was half electric and half wood. Very rare piece. We would roller skate around the basement and ride Tricycles and Bikes too. It was a great idea because it kept most of the house on main floor clean. We didn't have swings. Your basement is way cooler than ours. Love seeing your decorations and rooms. You have a real eye for putting things together and making them look so good. My Mother was like that. It's truly a gift. 😊
Your updates are a treasure and this video is the best Christmas gift. I love, love, love what you have done. Your creative sense is so nuanced yet clean, and your color choices are a delight. Merry Christmas.
I KNEW there would be a downside to watching this channel. Now I want a schoolhouse to live in. Writing my letter to Santa as I'm watching this. Everything looks so beautiful there. I hope you have the most wonderful Christmas.
You need a bigger TV in the living room 😀

The school is beautiful! You have done a great job turning it into your home! And what child wouldn't love the basement playroom, especially in winter! 😍
I love how you have held on to decades of Christmas memories, decorations, traditions and are creating more for your children.❤❤🎄🥰
I love the ornaments your mom made💓
The whole family could make the snow flakes like kids make in art class in school and put them in the windows or hang them in the front foryay. It would be a nice crafting activity.
Also some poinsettia plants weather real or fake on the sides of the steps of the frount inside steps.
In one of the "grates" you could build a Santa's Workshop with elves!!! hehehe
It’s just lovely! It may be expensive, but I thought of a single candle in each of the windows or maybe a wreath on the outside of the windows. I remember seeing this when I was in New England at Christmastime and it looked beautiful. It’s a charming home and I love that you’ve honored what the building was through the years ❤
Plants, plants and more plants - for outside 💚💚💚💚💚🎄
Who doesn't love it when dreams become reality. Happy holidays. 👍👍👍
The ornaments that your mom made are so adorable. You’ll remember all your adventures of your house every christmas to come 😊
Oh my Gosh! That early Christmas presents is freaking amazing 17:37
It is nice to visit a Fairytale Mansion that is an historic Schoolhouse - RUclips Channel! Love how it looks and feels! Thank you for keeping us informed! Merry Christmas and an epically awesome New Year! B~}
Merry Christmas!!!
Your kids are very lucky to have you both as parents! What a great home to grow up in.❤
This looks great!!! Love the play area in the basement. I love what hand made things from the orements to the stockings. Good job on remodeling your home. I bet the school house is happy, because life lives in it and not just any life. I hope you grow old there and have the best life possible.
You've truly created a beautiful home, full of childhood memories and now your kids will create lifelong memories in an awesome home ❤
You've made this into such a beautiful home, I feel like I need to go back to the beginning again to remember what is was like. The playroom/dungeon is such an amazing space! The decorations are so lovely too😊
You obviously put a lot of time into these videos, thank you for sharing them.
I hope your first Christmas in the schoolhouse is very merry.
Happy Holidays and thanks for the update!
Cheers! ❤
Wow you really have gotten a lot done. Haven’t watched in a while! Lookin good!!
I love the mix of a new home and the decor with a personal meaning!
Of the 10 kids in
my class, three of us were in the top 10 in the county! Winter was fun--we could work on the blackboard behind the big heater.
So your videos bring back lots of memories. Your home is beautiful! Enjoy and Merry Christmas to all of you1
Wow, your Mom is super talented ❤I love those ornaments. Your family has done a fantastic job redesigning the school.
You have done an awesome, beautiful job on your home. It’s absolutely gorgeous! Needless to say I love it! You all are so talented and hard workers. Great job decorating. 🎄🎄🎄
Just gorgeous!😊
My Brothers and Sisters would play in our basement all the time. It had a second Kitchen and laundry room combo where you could shut doors in Winter for privacy and warmth as the stove was half electric and half wood. Very rare piece. We would roller skate around the basement and ride Tricycles and Bikes too. It was a great idea because it kept most of the house on main floor clean. We didn't have swings. Your basement is way cooler than ours.
Love seeing your decorations and rooms. You have a real eye for putting things together and making them look so good. My Mother was like that. It's truly a gift. 😊
Wow!! Words cannot express how impressed I am! You are AMAZING and I love your style. So unique and FUN!!
Your updates are a treasure and this video is the best Christmas gift. I love, love, love what you have done. Your creative sense is so nuanced yet clean, and your color choices are a delight. Merry Christmas.
