I'm so happy to see you still uploading content, man, it's a super rare find to see anyone family friendly with character, consistency, and good videos. Thanks for keeping the content strong!
If I remember correctly, Carl spent a bunch of time on this level and couldn’t beat it either. I think that’s one problem with having forced deaths. Because the dev has to create a different route for themselves. Might want to send him the link to the updated level.
@@realjoegman it’s not extremely precise… in original smw, all you’d need to do is catch the item while spin jumping. But that’s also not possible in SMM2. But the main point is that Dave didn’t follow the “fourth wall” rule here.
You cannot initiate a spin jump in SMW mode while holding an item. So, if you press ZR while holding an item, you get a normal jump instead of a spin jump. The version Geek played was different and had an entire room that relied on this behaviour, and she went to great lengths to show on stream that she was pressing the correct button. Remember, the rule didn't say "only do spin jumps," it said "only jump with ZR." Dave did not violate the fourth wall rule.
It would be dirty if you change the commands of your abilities that Mario can do (such as jump changed to spin jump so you don't jump) and in every instance the level changes and you end up in a room no matter what that says: "You cannot change commands." which means you are forced to use ZR. That would be an ultimate fourth wall troll.
Every time I see something promising exclusively for youtube, I have begun to doubt more and more over time whether he's going to keep it going. Uncleared levels became stream only, Mariothon recap disappeared, I wonder if got a single episode, etc. Such a shame that a brand new Mario game came out and only showed on his channel for a week, if that. Just go right back to streaming and youtube video watchers get the leftovers later.
@@BryanWood87 so, DGR reupload the first hours of attempts, then after hours of playing this level he figured out the level was broken. Then contacted the level maker, confirmed that the level was broken and the level creator uploaded a new map. So the ending of this video is DGR completing the new map.
Im sure the level was broken. There must be a P-switch somewhere that releases the spike ball in the top right. The only problem is that small ones dont break hard blocks, right? Im thinking the small one is supposed to kill you while you wait for the big one, and the big one is supposed to go break the blocks, but the creator probably added the one-way after testing the room.
@@flodsire perhaps this level isn't a good example, but I've seen plenty of rules that take all the fun out, such as try not to laugh videos. It's more fun to just laugh than to torture yourself trying not to! Creators should make things fun and engaging within the toolset rather than tell the player to do something and they are able to easily disobey if desired.
@@flodsire I think if the level creator wanted to avoid regular jumps, some sort of penalty would be better than writing a rule in the description. No clue how it would be implemented in MM2 though.
I'd like to know what Dave was supposed to do before he started basically a different level. That 4th wall rule did make for a couple of interesting trolls, but in general I feel like all levels should contain all the gameplay and rules within the level. Not sure if its possible, but a penalty for jumping instead of having to disable the button would have been better.
Well to be fair, it seems like it was part of a collection of levels with fourth wall rules, like one where you had to limit your points, or another where if you laugh too much you have to restart
This level didn’t properly use the “you can only spin jump” rule. No interesting or funny spin jump trolls. It wouldn’t have mattered if he regular jumped (which Dave totally did at 15:44 btw) or not. Pretty bland and boring level
Yeah maybe it was more to put the psychological trolling into play? The most I saw was that one fire flower *just* out of reach of a spin jump but that was it..
@@BaconNuke Yeah probably. Unless it was an “extra challenge” thing that wasn’t necessary in the first place. Also forgot to mention the fact that either Dave was too dumb to beat it the first time or the level broke and it was impossible to complete. Either way, unenjoyable vid.
I think this fourth wall rule is for chat's benefit, so they can call out the streamer for violating it if/when they do, and make the streamer restart the level/room. And to cause chaos when the streamer pushes ZR and gets a normal jump because they're holding an item and that's how it works in that case. In fact, I think that's the troll there: that you see the throw indicator beyond the thwomps, so you go to spin jump over them, only to discover that since you're holding an item you get a regular jump instead and you die to the thwomps.
No, spin jumps guarantee the same jump height every time, which means he couldn't reach certain things, and prevents you from jumping while ducking. Both of these trolls appeared in the level multiple times.
@@461weavile I dunno, it just seems like an anticlimactic level 🤷♂️ There was no special sauce here. Dave really didn’t get trolled that much. The fact the level maker had to reupload and partially remake the level shouldn’t happen in troll levels, unless it was on purpose (which this most certainly was not).
Dave mistrusts his instincts so much he had to manually disable the button to stop himself. Can't blame him. His in stinks.
Now THAT is a pun
Idk about that. He has 2 kids. So his in must be okay. His out on the other hand...
@@Qblaze hey no, only family friendly jokes
Is there some sort of accessibility feature he used? I don't know how to disable buttons like that.
@@mike1024.Probably just go into settings for the actual switch and not just in Mario maker

Gotta love the levels that screw over Dave's muscle memory and instincts.

Honestly im glad dave gets to play mario maker. He seems like a chill guy. I like him.
I think Dave is a pretty cool guy. Eh kills munchers and doesn't afraid of anything.
At 5:55, you can see a Seinfeld fan in his natural habitat.
I like how the lanterns in the backround perfectly matches with the room at 5:08
so no one is going to talk about the non-spin jump at 15:44? okay
I guess he turned normal jumping back on in the day between
It’s not possible to spin jump in smw while holding something unless you perform an extremely precise maneuver
@@realjoegman it’s not extremely precise… in original smw, all you’d need to do is catch the item while spin jumping. But that’s also not possible in SMM2. But the main point is that Dave didn’t follow the “fourth wall” rule here.
He didn't go anywhere he shouldn't have been able to reach, or accomplish anything more than he would have been able to... so I guess we'll allow it

going from the nice video to one cluttered with that chat feels so bad
I wonder if it's the same setup after that broken room in the old one. I also wonder if DGR is going to do the "I wonder if" series again

Thats so random you just start singing that i love it

I love how in all main game styles, holding zr makes you do a full jump. Totally hasn’t ended my life multiple times. Thanks nintendo :P

Ummm DGR the description says 50-ft-lock made this level but it was actually Tacopanda who did 😂😂😂😂

The level maker gave the level a better name when he remade it.
What happens if you regular jump?
He gets put into the Penalty Box and has to replay Carl Is Such A Nice Guy while chugging a Mystery Nog with Banana.
You don’t HAVE to, but if you don’t your ultimately uncool and unfun because the level wants that

Will the origin Level ever be Cleared?
The creator probably didn't go through the broken room to do the clear check. None of the coins are necessary.
