they critiqued him for taken things out of context when the whole article is just them taking what he said out of context hahahaha

  • @sanukriuki9313

Lesson learned: never talk to cops or media without lawyer and a recording devices.

I was a writer for Hasan at Patriot Act, and I loved watching you react to that video and come to the conclusion that I think any reasonable person would. I've seen so many media and comedy people online who have their egos weirdly invested in hating Hasan or protecting the New Yorker. He's a nice, normal, funny guy, and this article was a malicious attempt to smear him. Hopefully his video puts it in the ground forever and lets him get on with his life.

this made me so mad lol. this is why people don't trust the media. why would they randomly make this hit piece on the guy. are we really at the point where we dont understand that comedians don't always 100% tell factual stories?

  • @thebigshep

Comedians aren't under oath, they're supposed to make you exhale out of your nose while you drink your beer and worry about how you're gonna pay rent now that you spent $100 or more on tickets to a live comedy show plus $18 on a canned Guiness

  • @thewheelsman29

I can't believe they doubled down. You can't select parts of information to convey a narrative very far off-base then go "we were right, suck it up". I think the first point that he gave receipts for is honestly the most damning difference from the article, it borders on attempted character assassination. I have no idea how a professional could be told that the racism happened, have the girl be a part of his life and acknowledge that it happened, then edit the information to make it seem like he completely fabricated it and the woman was shocked to hear that he had made up this story. Genuinely probably a racist article author. I bet she says racism isn't real regularly.

The New Yorker: "We didn't lie! One of our prominent witnesses is a former FBI agent whose entire job was lying. Obviously a credible source."

  • @MailOrderNerd

It bears mentioning for those who don't know, Hasan's comedy (like most foreign and immigrant comedians in the US) is generally meant to convey a somewhat humorous version of the immigrant experience. In Hasan's case, the experience of Indians and Muslims in the late 90s and early 2000s.

That is insane journalistic hackery from the New Yorker. Actually quite despicable.

Hasan's show, the Patriot Act was incredibly good and was incredible for the amount of in-depth research they would do when covering any particular topic. Which is why I was so disappointed when this article came out. But even before Hasan's response came out, the difference between the expectations for what he talks about in shows like the Patriot Act vs his own stand up should be obvious. It just seems like the journalist has a story already in mind, even after sitting down with him. Thank god he had receipts

Just gotta say, videos like these are how reactionary type content can be used for good. I knew roughly about the Hasan issue, but I don’t think I would have normally dived much deeper into the content or checked out his video in full without this reaction guiding me there. But now here I am, wiser with just how conflated this story was becoming around the media spaces, and a lot more supportive over a person I had little care for prior 🥴

I can’t wait to learn about the controversy surrounding another person I’ve never heard of before in my life

  • @jackalope3557

Definitely seems like the article was always going to be a hit piece and the interview was just to get ammunition. I suppose it's not surprising given that he is someone who spends a good chunk of his time criticizing powerful people and institutions. It's a good thing he had receipts but unfortunately the corrections/retractions for these kind of things rarely get as much attention as the original stories.

  • @macientosh6486

I used to watch Patriot Act religiously in middle school. Hasan Minhaj is like one of the biggest reasons why I started to care about political issues around the world cause he explained them in a way where it's easy for even 12 year olds to sympathize with his stories, so reading this bad faith article was so annoying.

  • @dontwannaatellu

This is like when a detective thinks they’ve caught a serial killer but the killings keep happening so they say it’s a copy cat killer

  • @strawberryqueen0382

I’m ready for Hasan to do the most Hasan Minhaj thing ever and open his next special with a background monitor reading “stories are exaggerated for comedic effect”

  • @Rayver112

Just wait until these people find out Larry the cable guy isn't actually a cable guy

“He selectively presents info and embellishes it to make a point: exactly what we reported” no that’s just exactly what you did. Selected specific quotes, spliced them together, and embellished them to make a point. A false point. I wonder if he could sue for slander or defamation. Especially if it costed him a job.

i was not at all invested in this beforehand, but seeing Hasan dunk on the media with receipts is so so satisfying. The sad thing is though, that if he didnt have recordings of everything people wouldn't really take him seriously.

  • @NerdyStarProductions

Dam, new yorker really just said "yeah we did the research, trust us bro" after they got a shit ton of receipts thrown at their face
