If you want to walk your cat there are a couple of steps before you bring them outside for a proper walk.
1. Put the harness on the cat and let it wonder around with no leash for a couple of hours until he is used to it.
2. Put the leash on the cat and try to get them to walk. If they do take a few steps the way you want them to, treat them. Cats notice when they get good out of things so if you treat them they will do it more often.
3. Lengthen the walk you take them on every time.
4. If a car drives by or something scares your cat, pick them up and put a thin towel on their head (Make sure it is thin enough to breathe through).
5. Each time you go for a walk, carry the cat outside so they know who is boss of when they go out for a walk and also carry them inside so they know that you are the boss of when it ends.
And that is (I think) all you need to know about taking your cat out for walks.
There is another way, but you would need clicker training. Using a clicker does make it a lot easier, but it takes long for the cat to learn.

Oh my gosh I totally take my cat Mittens out for a walk in summer and whenever I say “outside” he comes and meows at the door. It took a while to get him used to a harness but he loves it now!
