    This is the most hyped up storm ever. looks like regular rain and wind.

    • @Purpleiris444
      @Purpleiris444 Год назад +1

      It is hyped up because it’s one storm after another with high winds, floods and heavy rains. Because of years of drought of hardly any rains for 10 years or so, the land is not prepared to absorbed the rain. When I moved here in the 1980s it would rained for every day from October through April. Now suddenly we have rain that we should have dumped on us all at once.

      @Rafael cruz From Switzerland: A lot of snow and cold weather means that the reservoir of fresh water in the Alps is growing. The problem is when it gets too warm too early - then we have floods in the plains in spring. But generally, it's ok. It's still enough to have enough water for the entire year. But we constantly have to build and maintain dams, watergates and all the necessary infrastructure. Let's hope this weather will be good for California in summer.

    After reading about "triple dip La Nina" in SoCal a few months ago, it's nice to see that we are getting some rain. I heard rumors of an inevitable El Nino for 2023-2024. Obviously, I wish for everyone's safety, but the 2022-2023 Winter has been really good for precipitation and the future looks wet. I'm curious to see how the drought watch maps change as reservoirs refill and the snow pack builds.

    • @drscopeify
      @drscopeify Год назад

      In 1970s I think it was 1973-1976 (I forgot the exact years) there was also a 3 year La Nina which then turned upside down in to a 2-3 year El Nino with heavy flooding and by the 80s following more wet winters many of the dams had to open the flood gates including the Hoover dam in 1983 not saying that will happen as weather is always changing so I guess a level of random to it all or just chance but I guess we will find out over the next few years what plays out. Weather is always interesting.

      Fortunately, California has the infrastructure and voter-approved funding (Prop 1 in 2014 as example) to make long-overdue improvements to its dams, storage reservoirs, groundwater re-charge basins, treatment facilities, etc. The problem is the endless litigations and infighting among engineers, consultants, environmental interests, etc.
      In my view, California will not get past drought if they won’t save storm-flows, fill the reservoirs, and improve management of resources to benefit humans, farms and environment.
      Language is everything. If we allow drought impacts like water restrictions, over-drafted groundwater basins, low reservoirs, etc. to be called "drought", we will never ever be out of a drought emergency.
      "Emergencies" enable the urgent signing-off on policies that trample water rights, increase water usage restrictions with higher rates and fines, increase reservoir releases, deny irrigation allocations to farmers, and a whole host of other controlling powers.
      Humans, farms and environment are all suffering from policies that need to change is my view.

There is an ABC affiliate in San Francisco (KGO) that has at least 5 meteorologists, but they stand in front of the same graphic of the yellows and reds moving east from the sea. They even have Spencer Christian (if you were curious where he landed after leaving the morning show), but he isn't much better than the other weather people on the station's staff. The information that is presented in ABC10's segments is much more useful to me than from all of the local coverage.
