LITERALLY ME YESTERDAY WHEN I WATCHED THE MOVIEEEEE UGHHHH
I was reluctant to watch this anime in fear it would be like most Yaoi (most Yaoi animes tend to be sort of toxic) but the LGBT rep in this show is beautiful. It shows a group masculine men who's sexualities isn't the main point of show, presenting themselves as normal everyday people who just so happen to fall in love with the same gender. All the male friendships that have no romance behind them are wholesome and the way the girl allowed herself to admit her wrongs for being petty was beautiful. The rep is beautiful and the story line is more. This song is heart breaking and this kiss after it was so perfectly placed. I cried so many times from this show and I'm so glad it exists, the mlm rep is lovely

I didn’t understand one single word when I first listened to this song, yet it hit me so hard that it felt like my inside was shattered. I can’t even imagine what I’d feel if I actually understood Japanese. Given has motivated me to start learning Japanese and also drawing anime a bit (which I started and stopped long ago). I can’t express with words how much impact this anime has on me maybe it’s because partly I can relate to the characters…like at one point I was like Haruki, then I could relate to Akihiko as well and then Mafuyu’s song reminded me of that particular goodbye though there’s no death involved. This song from now on will always have a special place in my heart. I can’t find a word except “agony” to describe how I feel, still I’ll keep coming back to this song. I love the singer’s voice. There’s no tears but I can feel a lump in my throat and I’m crying on the inside. This is how this song makes me feel.
When he said “I’m not lonely” It seemed to me like that is what he was telling yuki, as if yuki was sitting next to him on the staircase. And he’s telling him that he’s not lonely anymore, he’s beginning to have fun again and that he found someone he can love again. I believe scene represents what he would told yuki, If he could have talked to him one last time.

I started crying not even a few seconds into the song, this resonated so much with me because I was and still am suicidal and I always think how would my family feel or my friends if i really took my life, if my attempt had actually succeeded. Edit: also noticed the part with Sayonara which is honestly really sad imo, considering Sayonara in japanese is a way to say goodbye as in never seeing that other person or thing again.

This song really hits different when you've lost a loved one. I actually really relate to Mafuyu and I fully understand the pain of loosing someone important to you. Especially in the way Yuki died. This is because I've been through the same thing as him. The feeling of not being able to forgive either person for what happened, the rage, the sadness, the almost never ending cycle of healing the wound, the anger, pity. All of it. And when you've been through something like that it hits really close to home. This is the reason why Given is one of my favourite anime's, the fact that I'm really able to relate to relate to the character, the lyrics, and everthing. Especially the "you're always with me" part. This is because certain things can remind you of that person, certain noises, songs, words, items, so on and so forth. People all have different types of experiences with burievement and everyone will cope in different ways but that's how my experience has been so far, it's been a long journey of pain, grief, sadness, but also relief, it's been around 6 years on my journey so far. Nobody is ever going to fully heal after an experience like that. No matter how hard you try to. And I must say Given was an absolute masterpiece.

I'm very sorry for your loss, I hope you're healing well. Your words really represent how I feel about Given and I respect you for being able to word them all out. I, too, have lost someone I truly loved one day, without any warning so I can really relate with Mafuyu in a lot of ways. It's been 7 years of my journey. A long pain, grief, sadness, but also relief, are indeed still present and I don't think I'll ever be fully healed. Once in awhile loneliness comes by too, but then I look at the sky and it looks like her every time; beautiful and comforting. Maybe that's how I cope. I'm glad Mafuyu is able to pick up music for yuki, himself, uenoyama, and basically everyone. It's as if through music that all his past, present, and future are laid out for Mafuyu to feel (as he seemed to have a hard time with emotions at first). That's one very realistic imagery of finding a way to cope for a deep grief (let everything sink in, feel all the emotions, accept them, let it out, and forgive). Given really is an absolute masterpiece 🥲🥲
I have an experience similar to Mafuyu. Although this said person did not die, they were practically killing themselves. It hurt to see them cry their eyes out. I will never not feel guilty for leaving them behind, but you can't fix someone who is already so far gone. You can tell them a million things, but they won't listen its a painful and emotional experience that I will never forgot.

SO, before this Mafuyu says he can't cry which made me cry and he says it hurts which makes me cry more. In addition to this, his 'Mada' and 'AHHHHHHHH' made me cry more. thank the lord I was at home by myself cuz I would have looked crazy. In conclusion, Mafuyu makes me cry.

Alright this is what I think:
Yuki was suicidal before he met mafuyu, and so when mafuyu said "are you willing to die for me?!" He felt like he got permission to die from his lover

editx2😎: I forgot they met as kids lol, but what I meant was while they were growing up, yuki had already developed suicidal thoughts, he liked mafuyu, so he stayed alive for him, however when they got into that fight, he'd already accepted the fact that mafuyu "hated him" it was enough for him, and since he had depression he was even more fragile and vulnerable to those kind of words.
