The fact that we played as Dimitri and we get to see him like this, they really did him dirty. It really hits different when the character you play as, later ends up being an NPC, only to die in a single mission. 😭😭😭

Gary Oldman voicing Reznov is just out of this world. Reznov recounting to Mason, to us, his hatred towards the men who betrayed him and his unit is so captivating. Its heartbreaking seeing Dimitri go out the way he did after all we've been through with him
To think Dmitri fought so hard for his country only to just be betrayed and to only be killed as a test subject it’s sad the most tragic COD protagonist in my opinion
Right after the events of WAW too which makes it even more heart breaking
And he was only 22, he was college-aged and went through all of that

Dimitri’s death is so horrific to watch. Reznov watching his best friend suffocating from the Nova 6 gas and he can’t do anything but just watch.

To make it clear for you Juliette. In the tunnels, there was a black character texture glitch where all the characters models were not popping in. And you were supposed to see them. 😊. Swift, Reznov, and the VC. But it’s a glitch that occurs rarely. So, maybe replay the mission where you get the chance as that wasn’t supposed to happen. 😂.
Dude, I had the same glitch and I was so confused if it was meant to happen, if it meant something story-wise or it was just my PC failing to display textures properly. :))
This problem seems to happen in this game in dark areas on PC with certain graphics cards, and I don't think it can be fixed with any tweaking.
@CrimsonCinnamonPro yeah, it's just happened this once. It's a brand new gaming pc with a great graphics card. Maybe the game can't handle it 😂

Yes Python is the second strongest revolver out there. I believe only magnum can surpass it so it indeed leaves holes! And that tunnel sequence, for whatever reason the lighting in the shadows gets really glitchy in bo1. It wasn't a dream.

I felt very sorry for both Dimitri,like all his efforts were just to get killed by his commanders, and Reznov, for being forced to watch his friend die like that. This makes World At War even sadder than it actually was

I remember how blown away I was at the cinematic presentation of the story in this game, I ended up playing it all entirely in one sitting on the day I bought it... When I reached this flashback level and I was cleaning out nazis again as Reznov, I knew this was one of my favorite games of all time. Thank you for your videos

One of the things that Treyarch does with their cod games is featuring a mission set in a previous game of theirs, essentially remastering their work. That mission with Reznov back in Ww2 is literally waw. Also, Rip Dimitri! You did not deserve that! And the weapon of mass destruction in this game is Nova 6, biochemical weapon!
Yeah... Dimitri's death definitely was hard to watch. I was so upset about it when i was a kid. RIP the Hero of Russia.
And you'll get an answer later as to what made that soldier Swift upset.
Its too bad you also got that weird light/shadow glitch during the tunnel part of the last mission in this video.
Its not a dream just a bug that the game had.
Also that pistol you're using is a Python. It takes .357 magnum rounds. .357 magnum is one of the most powerful pistol rounds there is in real life. I've shot a Python in real life. Its a fun gun to shoot.
The atmosphere in Black Ops is top notch, it comes across as a horror game at times lol, enjoying the walkthrough! :D

So I remember when this game first game came out, so many of my freinds in school were saying so many good things about the campaign and I see why. The characters, story telling and the overall vibe is just amazing. Can't wait for more Juliette! ❤️

Unfortunately the character lighting in the PC version is broken at some points. That's why everyone is just a black shadow when using the flashlight, and why you couldn't notice Reznov dropping down from the roof at 1:07:03
Also, the Python is very exaggerated, but there are lots of weapons in WAW, BO1 and BO2 that can remove arms, legs, and heads. Mostly LMG's, Shotguns, and explosive weapons that you find around the map, which is probably why you're only just noticing now with the Python. It's one of the only default starting weapons that can cause these dismemberments.
To fix that lighting glitch go to the folder where the game is installed, once there go to the folder named ''players'', inside it search for a file named config.cfg and open it to edit some stuff in it, search for a config named

Change de values ''1'' to ''0'' without deleting the quote marks and done.
That Python is devastating! The .357 is a huge round yes but to remove limbs...I would highly doubt it. Perhaps if it had a extremely soft round that would fragment easily into many, then perhaps. Only one that would do what is suggested for sure is shotguns with 00 shell or a .50 cal rifle, completely different then handguns, much more powder.

I really felt your pain in this episode. I was horrified when I first played the game and of what unfolded with Dimitri... It's also a revealing point when the story unfolds.
The PC port has issues with lighting in dark areas like the rat tunnel section. You may have noticed everyone was just black silhouettes, it's not at all supposed to look like that.
Also the Colt Python is a .357 Magnum revolver. .357 Magnum is a powerful handgun round but I don't think it can blow off limbs like in the game lol.
Is that magnum the one Clint Eastwood used in Dirty Harry?

Rewatching this game, the more I experience it, the more and more I appreciate the details of this game!
Not just the gameplay details in what you can do, but also the details of the gravity of the warfare setting, how it influences the storyline, but also the characters.
It especially hits me harder as an adult compared to when I was a kid, playing this game.
Even as a kid, when I started playing Black Ops, I started to view it differently compared when I played Call of Duty for the first time. But as an adult, connecting the dots, noticing certain things, understanding the setting, character interactions, actions, scenarios, everything just hits so much different and harder!
The stress, the tension, life flashing before Mason’s eyes, vision blurring, the loud bangs and explosions that impair his hearing, it genuinely feels like life or death. These are the kinds of things soldiers had to go through.
I sometimes think that’s part of what this game was trying to convey, to make the the player to feel as much about the traumatic warfare experience, and to get as close to a proper idea as possible, like how traumatic this kind of life is.
Some of the storyline details in my opinion that stand out the most are the ones including details of the Nova 6 threat rising! It tells you how much of a disastrous threat the weapon is, the danger and impact it has ☠️ Believe me when I say there’s more to come.
Kravchenko’s recording, the facts that he reports it so casually, almost cheerfully once he orders his men to report his “successes” to Dragovich.
You said it yourself, that he’s reporting about infants dying from Nova 6, and he’s quick to call the project a success. That detail alone says a very unsettling lot about how evil the said character of Kravchenko is 👿 Makes Walter White from Breaking Bad look like Victor Sullivan.
Anyway, trying to move on from that topic on hopefully a lighter note, another lineup of details that stand out to me are ones involving Mason! I think I forgot to bring this up when I saw your first Black Ops video, but although Mason doesn’t talk the most, Mason shows why he’s a trusted friend to (most of) his comrades! But also why JFK chose Mason out of thousands of soldiers to eliminate Dragovich.
The first mission had Mason sacrificing his freedom to make sure Woods and Bowman got home safe. But Viet Cong’s mission really highlighted on Mason’s will to survive, showing specific details surrounding Mason’s skills and determination. The slow-motion headshot, with an assault rifle, one-handed no less. Then Mason escaping and digging his way out a collapsing tunnel.
Believe me when I say there’s more to come! Black Ops really gives off this constant feeling of dread, not just in the combat/setting, but in the overall storyline, like something isn’t right.
I’m already excited to see you play the rest of this game! I know it definitely hits hard, but I hope you’re enjoying the Black Ops campaign.
Nothing will make you hate the enemies more than them killing off a former protagonist :( I loved the Project Nova mission, I nice call back to World at War.
The rat tunnel section in Victor Charlie is glitched on PC, for some reason all the characters become shadows xD it's fine on every other console. No dream sequence!

Fun fact about the music you mentioned at 37:45. That track is the theme song of the Russian's from World at War. The entire mission has music from World at War in it and I think that's such a cool callback.

the level numbers with hudson makes me feel like some 80's hero from some blockbuster movies, wait actually somehow with hudson wielding dual pistol and the level structure, not to mention he's bald, kinda reminds me of Max Payne 3
Python is one of the limb ripping guns, and the black appearance of all the characters in the tunnel is a glitch that most people get, may have noticed the black and whiteness of reznov in the Vorkuta mission when in the elevator shaft

“Project Nova” takes place 5 months after the final mission of World at War. And nearly two months since ww2 ended. 😊
Loving the series thus far! Just a note for the tunnel section, the odd colors are just a visual glitch from playing on PC, not a funky dream sequence, which would be equally as eerie and epic. I have the same issue when I replay this campaign. Its a little jarring but its still such a cool set piece!

In my experience, Dimitri played how I played in in WaW. Getting the more neutral stance with Chernov in his Diary. He spared those who surrendered until the surrendering were gonna be left to the mercy of the Soviets and gave them a quick death.

Hey Julie. You were asking about the Python. In real life it’s the famous Colt Python. It used to be carried by police forces in the US and it uses the powerful .357 magnum round. While the .357 probably couldn’t make people explode like in the game. It was invented because lawmen in the 1930s couldn’t compete with gangsters and bootleggers. They’d do driveby attacks in cars and the police revolvers they carried couldn’t hurt their cars. The .357 could wreck the motor or hit people through the thick car doors. If you’ve seen the walking dead it was the main character Rick’s signature weapon.

that rat tunnel reminded me of the worst level in Vietcong, another lovely FPS with a nightmarish mission...the visual aspects may seem like you're completely high on Nova 6, but in fact this is a very old texture glitch that Treyarch never fixed! it's a shame because it's a tiny little sequence with some details that will make sense to the plot later...
In the tunnel Reznov actually entered the tunnels on your left side but you turned around and didn’t see him lol
As a teen, playing Black Ops first, watching Dimitri die: "That's messed up. Reznov's best friend dying like that! It's sickening."
In the present, just finishing World at War: "OH GOD, not Dimitri, this is bullsh**!" It was twice as hard to watch. I wanted Dragovich dead even more.
Poor Dimitri!! He was a HERO. He didn't deserve to die like that 😭😭
Hey, Juliette. Here to provide some technical support. The reason why characters look so dark in dark places even with a light source by 1:06:47 is likely a graphical bug.
Make sure to keep your graphics driver up to date with downloads from Nvidia, Intel, or AMD depending on the specs of your computer. Also make sure to run a DirectX End-User Runtime or Web Installer to update your DirectX files.
Usually Steam takes care of most of this stuff when you first run a game, but usually it depends on what redistributables are included with the game files.
Other than all that, glad you're enjoying a console classic. Loved your reactions to the Reznov level.

The last part of the mission with the rat tunnel has been bugged on PC for awhile, I'm not sure how long. But it causes the textures of character models to turn black. It might be something to do with shadows?
And the Python is a .357 magnum revolver, it's basically a hand cannon compared to regular pistols. I wouldn't underestimate the power of a magnum cartridge.

I've never really paid much attention to what's on your shelving but is that a PS2 copy of The Simpsons: Hit & Run I see? If so, I approve. Awesome game back in the day. (and I don't want to freak you out, but there looks to be some kind of monster trying to hide behind it!)
I also encountered the lighting glitch on the character models during the tunnel sequence. Guess it must be a common bug. I thought I was being attacked by ninjas at first 😂

I am SO glad you got the weird lighting issue too, Neil! I didn't know it was a bug until so many people in the comments today said so. I think it kinda adds to the weird atmosphere, really! It was a creepy mission just made creepier!

The "tunnel section" seemed odd, because the lighting doesn't work like it used to. I've seen it on someone else's video as well. Must be some graphical setting, probably because you're running a 13 year old game on modern hardware. LOL. Either way, lovely video as always!

Dimitri, fish and chickens. What a devastating trio. Tom, it's just not good, is it? I have seen a number of games with fish on the floor after using aquariums in their levels. Sleeping Dogs springs to mind, when you can then pick up a fish and use it to hit people with! I mean, that's just taking things too far 🤣
