try the following 1. Try using engine oil with a lower viscosity among the oils suggested by the manufacturer. Autolesh parts will work differently depending on the engine oil. 2. For cooling water, adjust the ratio between antifreeze and distilled water according to the ambient temperature. It will prevent overheating and prevent related failures. 3. Set the spark plug gap equally to the gap suggested by the manufacturer. The rhythm will be smooth when idling. If the effect is due to autolesh, a low viscosity oil will work. Of course it will take a while
That's rod knock. There was a recall for Optimas and Sorentos with the 2.0 & 2.4 liter (litre) 4cyl motors. What I read is that the company machining the blocks did poor job of flushing the oil passages afterward and the debris left behind shreds the rod bearings or blocks the oil galleries. From the WSJ, "The problem is that metal debris wasn’t removed from the engine during manufacturing and that debris can clog oil passages, leading to engine failure. This can occur at highway speeds, although the automakers say they are not aware of any accidents linked to the defect." I have a 2012 forte and the rod bearings started making noises around 36K miles, KIA replaced the motor with a used motor having around 40K mi in Feb 2017, before the Optima/Sorento recall. The rod bearings in the replacement motor started going TU after a few thousand miles, so I started to look around to see if the issue was systemic; my first thought being that the lubrication system was inadequate (oil galleries too small, oil pump flow insufficient, pressure relief valves sticking , and so forth). I was planning to replace the rod bearings myself, but now it looks like a complete tear down and rebuild. We have not had any issues with the KIA dealerships, but given this new info, I plan to chase them down about it now. Note that rebuilding a motor is expensive, not in terms of parts so much but all the labor intensive machine shop work that needs to be done: typical prep work on a completely disassembled 4cyl block includes boiling and flushing it, checking tolerances, and so forth or at least $2000.00 US. The folks who make rebuilt crate or long block motors have all the machine tools in house, but typically sell a reman motor for $3-4K. It's about $6000.00 to pay someone to swap a motor with a reman long block.

Don't let them tell you it has to do with the oil filter, that's bologna. If they try to fight you on that, then tell them you've been using only Kia oil filters, or Mobil M1 oil filters. And all oil filters have a check valve, even the really cheap ones. (FRAM) Make them give you a new engine as per Recall.
Get rid of the car and go to a different brand, it was the only way I could deal with Kia after all the hassles I had with mine. My car is my life, my work and almost 6 years of hell I had to put up with. Now I have a mustang eco boost and I couldn’t be happier, 1 year in and no issue just I hate the brake pads but they can be easily change without hassle.
What you're hearing is lifter noise. The 2.0 uses solid and not hydraulic lifters so they will develop a little cam slap as time goes by. When mine gets to operating temp, it all but disappears. It started at about 10K miles, I'm at 130K now. Change your oil on a regular basis and add some Prolong with each change and drive the shit out of it.
Actually if you are familiar with the design, the valve clearance on these systems will get less. That's because the valve seat wear will be greater than the rest of the valve trains ability to wear to the loose side.,& yes this is the opposite of older systems.
This is definitely the crankshaft position sensor mine was doing the exact same thing about 2 weeks ago I went and scanned the vehicle and it threw the crankshaft position sensor code I replaced it and vwala the engine began operating like normal 👏🏾
Ha! Thanks. Somewhat exaggeration on my part, you're right about that. Still, surprising there's recent-ish comments on it. Mostly people trying to fix their Kia or argue why it's not a rod knock (despite the 3 shops and 12~ professionals I talked to)
I'm not sure what you guys are doing but I have a 2011 Kia with a 2.0 with 200,000 miles on it no knocking or anyting I just change the oil every 3000 miles that's the key
I changed mine every 3k, too. It's the engine that was the problem. Hence the 1.2million+ recall from Kia. If yours ain't bad, count yourself blessed. Although why are you looking up Kia Forte engine ticking problems?
Yes that’s the key my cay have 227,000 miles on it and still driving without problems. Since I bought my car in 2016 the only thing I had to change in my car was the alternator. That’s it
The 2.4 in the Sorento, Optima, and Sportage all had their motors recalled in the same timeframe due to engine failure. From what I've seen, they are the same (or at least VERY SIMILAR) motors. I have no clue why the 2.0 and 2.4 in the Forte's wasn't recalled
ToyotaCelicaDude1 I’ll tell you why: because they sold a LOT more Fortes, and they’re trying to get by with doing the bare minimum they have to do. I want to sue these jerks so badly. My 2010 forte had major issues out the door, purchased brand new at the start of 2010. After going all the way to Kia’s corporate offices in arizona, I finally got help, and they replaced the car with a 2011 model. It seemed great. Unfortunately I signed a document that keeps me from participating in any lawsuit. And my 2011 forte ended up with the same ticking seen here. It’s engine failure folks. The cylinders/pistons have a manufacturing defect. There’s a class action in Canada. I don’t know why it hasn’t been addressed in the USA. I know it’s irrational but I won’t trust Kia again. Their 10 year warranty is nonsense too. They’ll find a way to blame the issue on some peripheral item that’s technically not part of the power train, and therefore not covered. In particular, google timing chain failure Kia warranty. You’ll find that apparently the timing chain is not part of the power train. LOL! Really?! Even though it’s a critical piece of the power train in reality. These guys are liars and cheaters
Kyle what do you mean? The gasket between the upper and lower parts of the crankcase? If that’s true, maybe there’s hope for mine... I know for certain that gasket is messed up in mine. I’ve seen the engine oil on the inside of cylinder 1, and it’s seeping from the line where the two parts meet. Gasket=failed at that point

Hi there. Unfortunately, the only official dealership near me refused to fix it and wouldn't return my calls. This was two weeks before the recall though...
I believe this was due to bad motor mounts, although there was some debate on that. Not normal at all; The engine was bad regardless, since this is the same engine that is part of Kia & Hyundai's 1.7 million car recall. Dealer confirmed rod-knock. :/ They didn't even want to swap the engine. No one did.
2016 Kia forte motor went down out of no where at 35005, no knocking, tick, smoke, stalling, or overheating. Just a good drive stopped at a stop sign, and dead. Dealership is currently saying no oil changes were done.... False. Kia knows their motors are crap, and sludge up even with oil changes every 3k.
@burningfeet 57 mine was experiencing the same thing about 2 weeks ago and I had it scanned and found out that it was the crankshaft position sensor I replaced it and vwala the engine began operating like normal again 👍🏾
Possibly due to bad mounts (motor/ transmission?) although on Forte Forums there was quite some debate on that. Regardless, there was a rod-knock, and this engine is part of Kia's 1.7 million car recall. The movement is kind of unrelated, and started not long after the rod-knock.

Mighty Gk Absolutely, man. There was writing on the wall coming up to this. In the winter it would have a few cold starts where the engine would tick a total of 3 times and die off. Could hear and feel the pistons pump a few times, then the car would shake violently and it would die. Wasn't common, but it happened...
Sounds exactly like mine ,& the same car! ...Buy a $30 borescope camera on line & hook it up to a lap top ., shove the camera down the spark plug holes & look for vertical scratches in the cylinder walls .If you see them thats one problem that can only be solved with a new motor ...& as far as oil filters go , they are made to filter , not adjust oil pressure or flow.Cheap ones just have less filter material., don't believe me , get some used ones for free & cut them apart.
That is 100% the connect rod do not drive the car at high rpm or you will blow it through the block. Take it to Kia right away it might be under a recall warranty. As long as it’s under 200000km if not get rid of it fast.
Jonathon Langford The only Kia dealer within 100miles refused to acknowledge the issue, and eventually said they'd find a replacement engine and call me back. They never did, and at that point I traded it in. 😂

Don't let them tell you it has to do with the oil filter, that's bologna. If they try to fight you on that, then tell them you've been using only Kia oil filters, or Mobil M1 oil filters. And all oil filters have a check valve, even the really cheap ones. (FRAM)
Make them give you a new engine as per Recall.
kia is made in korea case close

Mine initially got better after it was running for a while... And then a week later it was a constant hard knocking sound.
Actually if you are familiar with the design, the valve clearance on these systems will get less. That's because the valve seat wear will be greater than the rest of the valve trains ability to wear to the loose side.,& yes this is the opposite of older systems.
This is definitely the crankshaft position sensor mine was doing the exact same thing about 2 weeks ago I went and scanned the vehicle and it threw the crankshaft position sensor code I replaced it and vwala the engine began operating like normal 👏🏾
would you happen to have a link to the sensor please

Did you have a check engine light on when you scanned it?
@@chelseamoreno9845 surprisingly no😅
Here from Reddit to prevent you from being a liar 😂 Comments!
Ha!
Glad yours is quiet , it helps show how abnormal the majority of them aren't!
Yes that’s the key my cay have 227,000 miles on it and still driving without problems. Since I bought my car in 2016 the only thing I had to change in my car was the alternator. That’s it
I have the 2010 Kia Forte 2.4l sx and it’s doing the exact I mean exact sound. Let me know if you hear anything about recalls
I have the same problem too to my 2010 Kia forte. Dont know how yo fix it. Its been for 1 year.
I was reading it could be the gasket just started having this
ToyotaCelicaDude1 I’ll tell you why: because they sold a LOT more Fortes, and they’re trying to get by with doing the bare minimum they have to do.
My Kia kinda does this but not it isn’t as loud but sound like a train chugging 😩 an gets really bad when it’s super cold outside an idles hard when I sit for to long an it’s also super loud at first but once the engine gets going it isn’t as loud but u can for sure hear it still across the street 😭
Mine does the same. How long has it been doing this for you?
@@jesalpatel6561 I’ve only had my car for a year an it’s gotten pretty bad it’s got 140k miles on it I put a Lucas fuel injector in an a it helped a little but I think it needs a tune up maybeeee

Have you check the crank case?
It's the crankshaft position sensor
Sigh. My 2010 is doing this now and lately, fuel economy has gone down 200 k per fill up :(
Yup. It's probably bad. Go trade it in while it still runs and don't get another Kia/ Hyundai 😂
Just look at the comment thread here... With the fact that every car they made between 2010(or 2011?) and 2014 is junk; they're not ever going to be a choice for me again.
my car is doing this also ugh
What engine oil do you put in ( viscosity)...
At the time, Mobile M1 5W30
@@MrNameloc in my CERATO 2012, i put 15w40. That's what recommends KIA Algeria. MAY be with a bit heavier oil, the problem will be solved, especially if your engine is very old ( loose parts inside like pistons...etc)... Mine is 100000km.
@@elecrticityelectronics8591 Sorry that heavy oil thing is what they did 50 yrs ago & won't repair the damage done.Time will prove me right.
Did you get the knock when coasting? I get the noise at idle and acceleration, but not really when coasting, i.e. fuel cut. Always used Kia oil filters since I got it.
truwarrior22 Exactly that. It got worse the more we drove it (>200 miles) before we traded it in.
Kia. and Hyundai should be ashamed of themselves. They want to pick up market share and they put out garbage like that.
See recall...still active. As well, the ones with the GDI direct injection engines do have a Small ticking but it’s from the injectors.
Make sure you keep those clean....they build up allot of carbon on top of the valves.

My car does this when cold but not nearly as bad, I have a 2.4L Kia Forte Koup SX 2010, once engine is heated no more of that sound, took to Kia dealership they said it’s just the way it sounds cold, but you have obviously driven it to warmining temps and it still knocks very bad and the way the engine was moving in the baby it looks as if something is lose
Check the hydraulic lifters
There is a warrenty on these actually engine recall from debrees being left upon assembly . Dealer will replace for free call dealership I have already sent 2 people and they are getting the engines replaced

Nameloc thank you. I’ll try to call a few dealerships on Monday morning
I have the same question about engine movement? normal?

Yes, a problem for "that engine" - which was for more than 1.5 million of those engines KIA made.
No reported issues with the 1.6 Gamma engines.
Also, no reported issues with the 2.0 Theta engines in the Malaysian Fortes as far as I know.
Had this noise in my Forte 2015. Engine basically died.
Sounds like a Piston pin or connecting rod bearing.
Yeah this is rod knock.
It's not. The piston sleeve is worn. It's a slap. Common on that motor.
Buenas noches que estaba produciendo ese ruido
Why does the engine move up and down in the beginning
Possibly due to bad mounts (motor/ transmission?) although on Forte Forums there was quite some debate on that.
Regardless, there was a rod-knock, and this engine is part of Kia's 1.7 million car recall. The movement is kind of unrelated, and started not long after the rod-knock.

Nameloc I don't blame you brother. Yeah if mine starts to have any inkling of funny business I will trade my vehicle.
Mighty Gk Absolutely, man. There was writing on the wall coming up to this. In the winter it would have a few cold starts where the engine would tick a total of 3 times and die off. Could hear and feel the pistons pump a few times, then the car would shake violently and it would die. Wasn't common, but it happened...

problem in the ignition coil.

Sorry Kia, Hyundai's don't have a good rep. Bought one and only got 90k on it then blew a head gasket. Never again. Went back to Honda

That is 100% the connect rod do not drive the car at high rpm or you will blow it through the block. Take it to Kia right away it might be under a recall warranty. As long as it’s under 200000km if not get rid of it fast.
