Thank you, Stasia and it's really quite fresh from the press it seems. As mentioned I thought they would only demo it in Essen :-D But I really like what they added/changed!
The crowdfunding for it was done in a sneaky and secretive way: all backers of the base game suddenly got a notification that a project was successful and sent a backer kit for a campaign we didn't sign up for. All enrolled were pledged at $0, and the cart contained a coupon for massive discounts. The campaign announcement was made the day the games were confirmed to be on a cargo ship and in transit. It was pretty epic. Even better, mine came in yesterday, so I get to play it on Christmas!
Oh - I didn't know that, but I got my original copy through retail and the expansion in Essen. But as I mentioned: I was surprised to find the final copy there!
You really get a lot with the expansion: a whole new board, the cards etc. But I believe you still need all the player tokens, which are part of the base game I suppose.

Is the base game required to play the expansion? Considering from the sounds of it, the expansion provides all content from the base game.
