There's no better ambassador for the Deluge than RMR. Hats off!
Ron Cavagnero makes very deep deluge tutorials
@@elijahjackson8636 Ron is Awesome! Respect for the man! Word!
yeah I have to say Ron is such commited too, cheers to both!
The synthstrom business philosophy is just beautiful
Really glad you are covering this Jeremy. I love your Deluge videos. Been messing around with the community firmware myself and it's amazing. I think j the best part is that it works for both displays, so no one missed out. Can't wait to see where this goes in the future!
Dude. Even your (are they throwaway?) demo tunes are bangers. Your compositional gift is through the roof.
Thanka boo ❤️❤️❤️
I've been using the open source for a few weeks and it's a game changer. My favorite piece of gear, it's outlived everything and will continue to do so.
Dude, i'm really liking your jungle type beats lately. Keep that shit coming:D
The two M8 albums, Soft Music albums, and Lunar fields alone brought Jeremy to #2 on my Spotify this year 😅
I've been listening to Rituals on repeat since it was released. Came interested about what the M8 could do and ended trapped by the music 🙌
And to think this is just the start... Some of the upcoming features and changes being worked on look just amazing. The Deluge was already my favourite all-purpose groovebox! Now it's just obliterated all competition!
Your videos convinced me to buy a Deluge 3 years ago, and I have been so happy with it. And now I'm even happier because my Deluge is coming back from its OLED upgrade in a few days, and I will try all those wonderful new capabilities you showed with such amazing talent. I truly love your work and all you give to the synth community. Thank you so much!
Thanks so much for the introduction to the new features - great as a reference! Love my deluge, I am a huge fan of Synthstrom. The screen upgrade with the possibility to send the deluge in must have been a huge undertaking. This was so much better than introducing a 2.0 version. And now this monster update with the community firmware. This is just plain awesome!
Would anyone be down for a full on “beginners” tutorial with the oled screen and the community firmware? I know I would.
I have just bought a used Deluge, 2021 with Oled mod, Looks new to me, no scratches or marks anywhere. I updated to the Beethoven community firmware so I have no Idea what the standard firmware is like. I did this so I can get used to the open source firmware from day one. I just have to learn to use it now so am looking at tutorials that start right from the beginning. So I agree completely with @Sineidal's comment! I have started on the RSKT tutorials and have Ron Cavagnaro's tutorials ready to go. Both are excellent but a tutorial dedicated to both an Oled screen and the community firmware would be perfect!
Excellent overview. Very clear, concise, musical demo. The best I’ve seen.
Pretty insane what they’ve packed into the Deluge. This seems like the dream groove device.
Oooof that tracks (6:39) got potential dude! Nice demo, the Deluge is so ridiculously good.
this is insaaaaaaane. thanks heaps for your amazing demos as always, you're the king!
I feel like the software side of things is so incredibly packed now, the only thing that could beef up this thing would be an XL version with more I/O (dying for a cue out), potentially an even bigger screen or possible connectable extra screen and maybe some human limbs and a bunch of recipes so it can prepare meals for me. it's great as it is though.
Yeah more I/O, and the processing power to record separate stems, are about the only things on my wishlist now.
The comment you made about mapping settings to velocity and then using the kit keyboard view blew my mind. Never even thought about it. Thanks for another great video.
I'm just looking at the comments before I watch this and that sounds like a great idea.
Nice! Glad to see you digging into the community stuff. So much great stuff to unpack
Oh damn, didn’t realize you could load synth presets into kits now. That’s dope, I’ve made quite a few synthesized drum kits for myself but it was always a bummer that I had to start from scratch (or edit an existing kit). Also all the other implications that comes with that. Super rad.
Jeremy,
I appreciate you.
I now also own a Deluge.
So now part of the community too
Thank you for the rundown. These drops are always intimidating, you help demystify!
Fiiiiiiiiine, I’ll jump to the Community firmware.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.
Fantastic presentation of a fantastic piece of gear! Thank you! All the recent actions from Synthstrom Team, from screen upgrading to opening the code source is a pure joy - there is no equivalent devotion in this industry towards its community, and I have no words to thank enough every one that is involved!
Those scale select changes and the In Key keyboard option are worth the download all by themselves.
Fr
The Deluge is such a fun looking bit of gear. Really glad it went open source
Drum velocity grid is really cool!
It's my favorite new update I think
Oh wow having grid view for song mode is huge, I remember a thread from the synthstrom forums years ago where that was first proposed!
For the Lazy slice … you have to press the horizontal knob in not turn it
I'm so happy it works with both displays, I want to get the OLED but it will take time, can't wait to try out community features!!!!
biggest game changer for live performance is you can tweak synth param direftly from grid view without need of entering inside clip by koldimg clip button and rwealimg selected synthbparam with golden knobs .. that’s like HUGE ..
GO DEVS! Woohoo! Great video ❤
Thank you for this !!!
Just to be clear - to enter lazy slice, you have to PRESS the L/R encoder, not turn.
Ah my bad
Thank you so much for this great showcase ❤
This is completely insane. I feel blessed!!
Still don’t even have one of these but every time new firmware comes out I still check it out haha. The velocity thing is an interesting strategy to deal with not having velocity sensitive pads! Reminds me of some old Digidesign controller firmware updates in the olden days.
I think putting the different velocities under different pads is actually a better idea, in the long-run, for the longevity of the hardware (you don't have to hit the thing & risk fatiguing the delicate parts underneath), & it makes you think about using velocity to alter other parameters. the machine never stops being amazing. the screen was a game-changer for lots of us- the underlying functionality was always there with the 7-seg, but now the instrument communicates with joined-up writing instead of red crayon, speeds things up immensely. I have two now, & sometimes load the same song on both, hooked up to a surround system. 🤟
@duncan-rmi man, both great points I didn't even think of!
@@duncan-rmi its such an amazing device I've been thinking about getting another as well crazy!
7 segment ftw!
Was waiting for you to cover this! Great vid as always 😁
So stoked I have one of these, synthstrom is such a great company
Open-Source is made of win. I'm particularly happy to see the new clip grid mode.
I'm not even half way through this video, and I need to take a shower. Mine is currently in NZ getting a face life and can't wait to be face deluged! On with the rest of the video but great job going over everything. Red means to the point!
Thanks for putting this out Jeremy!
This last firmware has completely overhauled the way I use the Deluge. I hadn’t even considered swapping out SD cards depending on the set. I would def recommend putting this community firmware on a fresh card. It’s so easy to swap back and forth.
Fantastic and detailed review of the new Deluge Update. THANK YOU!!!
Great job on the walkthrough! So much easier to follow with a demo.
First: Thank you for this overview, amazing all these new features!
Second: I am so happy to have this Deluge, its the best I've bought the last 10 years!
Third: Wish I had it in the 90ties 🤤
This is so cool. I'm having a hard time keeping up with all the new features tbh.
How to turn your Deluge into a Squarp Hapax! Cool stuff
ha-hah, it's so much more than that!
Fantastic demo. Superlative musical compositions and command of your/the instrument(s). Inspiring.
Waaah, so much to do! You always make it seem so easy!
The devs also have a patreon going. Best spent money! :)
Amazing, just amazing. Well done to the community developers 🙏🙏🙏
Your videos make me so happy, thank you.
That's it... I'm getting a Deluge in 2024!
Dang, man. Synthstrom done did it. Thanks for the overview.
Amen to this. Cool video of an amazing update. Even just Grid view and the master compressor are a big upgrade, but the automation view and a huge load of other quality of life updates really level this up. Amazing work which I’m hugely grateful for 🙏🥰
Amazing example of investing in a product by a company rather than just releasing new versions. Not to mention the community!!
Hey Jeremy i heard in a podcast that at some point you were not sure what content to put out there in this channel; well, just carry on and do what you feel like! Sometimes i really love your stuff and sometimes i find no interest in it; but some other folks will feel differently; and that s perfectly all right!!! Anyway always a pleasure to see something new on this channel cheers
Thank u
THANK YOU. Very to the point, comprehensive Tutorial 💯
Very nice! You inspired me to jump in the deep end and update my Deluge.
I literally just got my deluge, I'm so overwhelmed by all of the features it's kind of incredible.
SO well presented.............................as we've come to expect from you...................thanks
Track at 10 min is yum! Damn I wish the OT had a sticky shift. Everything should have a sticky shift!
Oh damnn i need to install this yesterday 💜
Amazing sound at 17;30
Wow! This is awesome and a really great demo! I wonder how this will work on the old screen…. Maybe it’s time to send it in….. dear Santa……
The generative arp and percussion.... Wow. And the drawn mod is yummy
very dope! love Deluge!
Was just about to place an order for the Polyend Play+ and stumbled upon this video. Now I'm not sure..
Aaaand on 3:13 i request full synthwave album. Great news for device and for community, and awesome music. Thanks!
Just updated the firmware ... this is so much fun! 😍
Amazing video!
Just when I was writing generative arps on the Organelle it pops up on the Deluge! A match made in heaven!
I love it, when the d‘nb Jeremy shines through! ❤
Looks amazing!! If you buy a new Deluge, does it come with the open source firmware or do you need to install it?
You’ll need to install it, it’s extremely easy though. Copy one file onto your SD card, then hold shift while you turn it on. Takes about 30 seconds!
awesome work from the open source crew
U'r a genius mate and all this in 23 minutes of pure joy. What a big update.. and i'm missing out 'cause my deluge got confescated by the police and they ain't giving it back nether.. no proof of this. Anyways might be able to talk to Ron about this again.. He's been expecting a mail with the continuations on the situation since then. Lol it's been 3 years almost. Loong story short ended up on the streets with covid comming to Spain to work on a hempfarm, and had this with me.. yeah might be stolen they thaught after being falsly accused. And gone.. my laywer kept me on the line for 2 years and charges where dropped after 3 weeks.. nobody ever told me about that. Wasn't funny finding out about that.. they always leave traces. Might really have to take this to court. Still stuck here. Far from home.. yet i have the rest of the studio safe here or at least most of it here, the moog and some guitars and VS 2000 are at an old friend.. anyways things are different here.. loads of corruption and ex criminals hiding all over Andalucia.
Woo, thank you! I'm going to have to watch it three more times to remember all that 😅 some super sweet features in this. Do you know if clip view allows for follow actions à la Session view, or a workaround to achieve something similar? They're one of my fave features of session view in Live
afaik there are no follow actions
There's a way to have a clip repeat a set number of times before stopping and triggering the next clip in Song View, but there aren't more complicated versions of clip follow sequencing similar to Ableton currently. It's a feature from the official firmware.
I'm sorry whaaat - this is amazing!
BOOOOM!
My deluge has never been so good I love my laptop and other gear too but the convenience of the deluge allows me to make better stuff than I make with my other gear also when I control other gear with it loving the new stuff and the cat at the end so cool nice video peace ✌️
I’m sure Deluge is my only desert synth, of course, if I can keep getting new updates…
holy moly the deluge got like 3 updates overnight! i'm very tempted to get the firmware for this.
I admittedly know nothing about coding, but if someone was able to add, or even replace, the onboard synth engines with Mutable Instruments synth engines, my Deluge would get a lot more use.
Getting usable, good sounding synths out of the deluge's synth engines is very challenging. Even more difficult if you havent used it in a while and forget all the shortcuts
That's a really interesting idea
Check out rephazers sound packs for deluge top drawer stuff.
I’m so torn right now! I either want to get the circuit tracks right now and get right into a dawless setup or save up for a while and get the deluge!because it’s clearly one of the best out there. I think I might take the patient route though…
Damn... Randomization, Probability and Automation are my favourites but grid mode looks interesting too... I'm just wondering how I shall remember all these shortcuts?! 😂🙈😬
Thanks for the video in any case!! 😉👍🏻
Thanks!
Thank u!
AS IF I DIDN'T WANT A DELUGE ENOUGH ALREADY... NOW I CAN CODE MY OWN FEATURES??
YES! EXACTLY!
🎉❤🎉
Yesss, love it! Does rhe grain effect take up CPU from the moment its enabled, or only when it's actually being used?
Great question and I want to assume the latter but I'm not sure
As long as it is set as an effect in a clip or song it is consuming a lot of both memory and CPU. Even if a clip is muted unfortunately. Until we are able to improve performance we guard it with an explicit setting. PS: the setting only hides the FX type but does not disable currently enabled ones so songs don't get altered.
1.1 is about to drop, are you gonna make a new video about the new awesome features? I would love to
It's funny how I never look at the grid when that virtual QWERTY keyboard layout is there. Makes me wonder if anyone ever uses it...
Wait, why did i just buy a Play+?
I'd be happy as Larry with either... Enjoy it dude, I envy you!
Yeah, I'd be happy with either. Everything has pros and cons
Enjoy what you bought. I think the play plus is cool.
Always been curious about this thing but it just seems VERY complicated to use... cryptic might explain my fear a bit better. BUT, I think I'm maybe willing to try it out. Wish it had some more outputs though.
Very Hapax-y
Can someone help with the FW update part: I read way earlier that the Open Source Firmware requires a new Bootloader on Deluge. I'm running 4.0.1 on the "classic" numeric display. Couldn't find any clear-cut info on specific steps when coming from a particular FW version, just general hints on FW File-Size and Bootloader. Is it just copying the BIN file on a SD like usual or are there things to consider?
It's the same firmware update procedure as normal firmwares
it's not required, however updating your bootloader eliminates the chance of your deluge being soft-bricked if you accidently load firmware that is 0bytes or greater than 3.5mb (this risk has always been present btw). you need the current official firmware beta 4.1.4 to make the update. i would suggest just updating to community as normal (same process as you described), just keep an eye on your firmware size and always eject SD card safely, and once v4.1.4 is officially released, you could consider updating your bootloader then.
@@RedMeansRecording Thank you!
@@ok_reza Good advice, thanks! I consulted the manual again (the article for the "old" Deluge seems to lack some images and example screenshots, hence my question) and seems I check what Bootloader FW I am currently on just as a precaution. The manual actually discourages updating if Bootloader is already above V5 iirc, but from what it looks like the community FW seems safe to apply either way.
Looks cool, I cant read the buttons on the Deluge, so I just cant use it effectively, had to sell it.
@aikighost Same problem here, BUT I've waited a long time to get mine so I intend to get a pair of glasses especially for the Deluge.
My Shift isn't sticky, it doesn't even light up but the functions work.
turn on LIGHT SHIFT in community features menu
Hello all, i want to know if someone have it since 5 years and if it still ok, i'm looking to buy an old one but is it strong enought against time ?
I think I need this. Where's my wallet???
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
so many things I ran into finally have a good solution....
👍🏻 Aussies still showing us up.
I should've bought a Deluge instead of a Polyend Play...
Where I live, the Deluge is almost 3 times an OG Play, when the Reliq is released, that will run rings around the Deluge for MIDI duties.
@@dankeplace Good point. Even though Deluge is Open Source and has resampling, while it's not clear yet if Reliq will work well with FL Studio (my DAW of choice). But thanks for the heads up! Maybe you're right and I'd say something similiar when the Reliq is out.
Worth mentioning might be "monome" as well - lots of buttons and open source - but to my knowledge you gotta pretty much build the software yourself.
Definitely interesting choices to ponder about.
@@TheBigLou13 I've been searching an end game sequencer for a long time, I think I've had maybe 15?
PE Play is really intuitive and fun with a small foot print. I get why others choose something different because of sampler choices.
I have a SP16 which is an amazing abandoned piece of gear.
I think the Reliq will be around the same $ as the Deluge, I know which will be better value for money for me though.
@@dankeplace Polyend are nowhere near as dedicated to its users as Synthstrom is, I think they would like to be but seem to be chasing the money to expand the business. Synthstrom has had just the one product since 2016 and has tried to improve it, including retro fitting Oled screen, they could easily have gone for a MK2 but chose to stick with what they have and maximise it. Just imagine what the Deluge MK2 will be like when they do release it!
Should I cancel my Octatrack order?
From a music production standpoint the deluge is more useful. The octa is an amazing device but I find it more useful as a performance mixer than a music maker. You'll see it in a lot of my deluge performance videos acting as mixer.
@@RedMeansRecording Thanks for your time to reply. I got a lot to think about. Open source is the best thing that can happen to a consumer whilst nothing is happening with the Octatrack and probably never will. But there is something about the Octa that’s pulling me.
Wished I watched your video before i sold Deluge 😝…
The only thing I don’t like is Thad Christmas 🎄 tree colours on buttons 😢
You can set the colours to be whatever you want. That is simply the default.
