    Living in Florida we see our share of storms, but a cat 5 in a sailboat not something most people get to experience. Great job showing what it was like. You got me hooked, I watch all your post back to back, looking forward to your next one. Good luck and fair winds

      I like wiind , But it,s a bits hard to sail aroud in circles inside the eye, and it was hard to keep complete cotrroll with were we , but we had admiralty charts , and Townsville harbour on the vhf, so they told us they could see us sometimes on the radar, Townville square , What place of isnpiration.. It might be hard for you to understand how I ended up being recorded on a hand held sanyo tape deck, just singing , and playing aon a blues harp , two empty stubbies and a bottle of Bundy. I forgot , most , But not the lady that taped .me. 1989, "2016 I hear Tal Wilkenfeld release her first vocal " under the sun "

      Just so you know , I gave that song away , and all she could put down on tape free for her use , for the benfit of everybody. Play on . !

    I like how you explained your Storm Prep, how you picked the spot to tie up like you did and especially about the anchor, smart thinking for sure. I think I would have been a bit nervous about how far in you guys went but I do understand why.

    • @SailingSVSarean
      @SailingSVSarean  7 лет назад +2

      Hi Steve, early in the season we took our tender up into that creek with our hand held depth sounder to suss out depths and find a hole for Sarean to sit in, which is a good tactic. I would have felt nervous taking her up there also if we hadn't first been

      Thanks Nicolas, glad you are enjoying our vids. As far as learning and sharing cruising info goes, there are some great Facebook groups out there such as 'Liveaboard Sailboat, Seven Sea Cruising Association, Bluewater Sailing and Cruising. Well worth joining if you haven't already as the info shared can be invaluable.

    Hello there! Loved watching the TC Debbie videos, especially with our hurricane season approaching. I had a question..the area in the mangroves that you hunkered down in..is that an area where "Salties" are present and a problem? Wasn't sure if crocs were an issue where you were. We got into a rather spirited conversation about it! Please advise! Your fans from Florida.

    • @SailingSVSarean
      @SailingSVSarean  6 лет назад

      +Mark Galsky Hi Florida! Great to have you with us! Yes, crocs are about in FNQ - pays to keep an eye out ;) I understand they have been spotted as far down as Brisbane... I guess as they breed the males go in search of their own patch. Best of luck with your upcoming season!

  • @02025
    @02025 5 лет назад

    Enjoyed the video. Thanks! Out of curiosity, what kind of damage would you expect if you were NOT tied to mangroves other than the bow? You'd chafe against the lee mangroves, for sure, but is that significant?

      Daniel Voon Hey Daniel - great to have you on board! We are heading up to the Louisiades shortly, then Solomons. We might hook back down to Vanuatu after the cyclone season then over to NZ and out, or we may hook up through Micronesia. Depends on the weather at the time and our gut feelings. We are circumnavigating, but we just wander! Love to hear your thoughts if you've anywhere you particularly enjoyed - otherwise we'll keep filming for you ;) Rock on!

    I watched another YT channel decide to chain their boat to a concrete pier in a marina when threatened. When Mary passed they came out, the pier was gone, the boat was in half on the bottom. It seems to me the older sailing couples run from the marinas. They seem to be quite dangerous.

    • @SailingSVSarean
      @SailingSVSarean  7 лет назад

      Oh no, that must have been heart breaking for them. We can only do our best with the information and experience we have at the time. Yes, we try to find shelter away from others. Marinas have their purpose. however can fail during storms of this magnitude.

    Just thinking... How do you look after a doggie in a yacht?

    • @SailingSVSarean
      @SailingSVSarean  7 лет назад +2

      Much the same as on land Doug. Being a Cocker Spaniel she just loved the water and was small and agile enough to easily transport. I taught her to do her business on board (which got washed overboard) for those times we couldn't access land and we naturally spent a tonne of time on beaches and swimming!
      Moo had her bed under the saloon table and would 'self tack' if down below on passages, or in the cockpit. She was never allowed on deck in rough weather. As she got older we just kept a closer look out on her and naturally had to help her about much more.
      Moo just loved this life though, you could see it on her face when she was watching the world sail by and meeting new people and sea creatures. She traveled more sea miles than any dog I know and also enjoyed that feeling of wind in her face and a yacht moving under sail.
      We are heading out voyaging again now and that is hard on animals, along with constant quarantine issues when traveling internationally.
      Moo passed a few months back - we very very much miss her passion and humour.

    Where's your weather information coming from that you're displaying on the home screen? Here in the states where I'm located(Las Vegas, Nevada) we get our weather info from the National weather service that name the hurricanes and tell just how or what category they are(1-5) with Cat 5 being the strongest at +156 mph or +251 kph.That's miles per hour and kilometers per hour. Sorry if I'm telling you info that you already know. Here in Las Vegas we don't worry to much about Hurricanes as we are in desert country with heat the biggest problem.This is June and already we just had a week with the temperatures above 110 degrees every day, the hottest days are in July and August. Hurricanes or cyclones are the biggest and most damaging weather systems plus they spawn tornado's with wind speed above 300 mph., not nearly as big as a hurricane however. Your channel is one of the best and most interesting series I've found and please continue to show everyone your lifestyles and views of what's around you and your mate. Thank you for a great and interesting show.

    • @SailingSVSarean
      @SailingSVSarean  7 лет назад +1

      Thank you Frank - most appreciated. Whilst we are coastal cruising we utilise 'WindyTy' (which was pictured in the vid), however when offshore we use 'Predict Wind' and 'Bobgrams' for Pacific cruising. Hope that helps and see you in the next video!
