  • I decided that instead of attempting to wire up an AUX input, or replacing the head unit all together, that I would try a Bluetooth Cassette Adapter in my 2003 Ford Taurus' stock stereo system.

    It would be nice if the spinning reels could be repurposed to provide power for the device to charge. An interesting looking device though!

      I had actually mentioned that in the rough cut of the video, but cut it for time because I was rambling :) But yes, at least use that spinning motion to trickle charge the battery, perhaps giving it somewhat longer life anyway...

    im surprised you didnt mentioned mono, many many, many negative reviews i seen about these adapters whether wired or wireless is that people complained that they can only provide mono audio, not stereo

    • @JustinNelsonsProjects

      In all honesty I only owned that car for a brief period. It was a fixer-upper that I flipped and sold. I only bought the car cassette so I could listen to my phone through the stereo (as well as use the hands-free phone), given that the Taurus has such a weird shaped oval stereo, an aftermarket would be pretty difficult to make look correct.
      But after reading your comment, I had to dig out the car cassette, and just one look at the tape head in the cassette, it is in fact mono - and I never even noticed it LOL 🤣
      Also keep in mind, the stock sound system wasn't exactly super high Fidelity lol...

    I recently bought one for $12 and so far it isn’t that bad there’s a switch to power it on/off which I’m a fan of.

    Great video! I'm considering getting one of these for an old 2005 Honda so it's either cassette or fm receiver. Think I'll go with a cassette adapter then.

      I haven't looked at this video in quite some time, I got rid of the Taurus pretty shortly after I posted the video. But my comments about potential design changes were just ideas lol, obviously no single solution would work for every cassette deck out there...
      Funny story though, I sold that car to my nephew, and then he later traded up to a Jeep Grand Cherokee with a cassette deck. He inadvertently forgot about the USB charge plug, and stuck it in the cassette deck of the jeep, and busted the USB port just as I described in the video as a potential problem 🤣
      Luckily it did not damage the cassette deck, just the cheap Bluetooth cassette. Being a young kid he later went on to pretty much destroy the jeep through neglect anyway LOL.

    Get a modulator mate. Auto pairs each time you turn the key

    • @JustinNelsonsProjects
      @JustinNelsonsProjects  6 месяцев назад

      Are you talking about an FM stereo RF modulator? I mentioned in the video why I'm not keen on those, in general they don't limit the upper frequencies properly and you end up with cross talk and distortion in my experience.
      By the way I no longer have that vehicle, that was like 2 years ago, and the cassette adapter was a pretty good solution for that Taurus because replacing the head unit would never look right...
      I have since acquired to GM vehicles, both 2007, a Grand Prix and a Silverado. In both cases I put a bluetooth enabled head unit and that problem was solved.
      I only made this video for those who are stuck with a cassette deck that is not easily replaceable with it aftermarket stereo, the Taurus specifically with its weird shaped factory head unit never looks right with an aftermarket. Honestly it was just a video I made for fun.
      If an RF modulator sounds good enough for you then that's great. I personally don't care for the sound quality on those, at least the ones I've tried. Perhaps there are higher quality versions... But I always appreciate the feedback 😀

    I have a Mercedes 2003 E 20 it has a beautiful stereo system in it but it does not have Bluetooth I just bought one of these at Walmart today for 11 bucks save me from having to buy an aftermarket stereo that works just fine only thing that’s annoying as you can kind of hear the tape reels moving But you can’t hear it once the radio was on

    If they made the power cable flop out like the button cable it could maintain a constant charge.

    • @JustinNelsonsProjects
      @JustinNelsonsProjects  3 года назад

      I was thinking either that, or the power cable could plug into the button itself... I've since sold that Taurus along with the adaptor since both of my trucks have Bluetooth built into the aftermarket head unit...

    i recently bought one of these and it only works for one side of my car, I know it’s not my speaker cause the radio works perfectly fine for both. Any ideas on how to fix thank you

    • @JustinNelsonsProjects
      @JustinNelsonsProjects  2 года назад +1

      The first thing I would double check is the settings on the connected device. Maybe try a different phone, try using a mono source like a phone call or something.
      The next thing I would try is a tape head cleaner. I'm sure you can pick one up from Amazon pretty cheap. But it's more likely that the heads in the cassette deck are out of alignment... If you happen to have an actual cassette tape lying around, maybe check that and see if it plays through both speakers or just one, just to rule out the possibility that something's wrong with the Bluetooth device.
      Hope this helps, thanks for watching!

    The one that I have I never eject it unless I want total silence in the car while the accessories in the car are on but it's not running. As long as I plug the charging cord in before I push the cassette in I never have to mess with it. Also on mine the light that shows its powered on is next to the charging port on the cassette. The on and off button hangs off the cassette on a wire. I like the idea of having the charging port there to. I've had 3 of them over time. The first one was cheap I'd got for $8.00 I broke on accident. The second one I had also I broke myself. I've had no problems with the third one and I've had it almost 2 years. My cassette deck has auto reverse so you don't have to flip tapes over. But every once in awhile it will just try to switch sides over and over not letting you listen to music. I remedied this by taking the cassette apart and removed the extra little gear ⚙️ inside. The regular 2 are still there and spin so it works fine. Also the one I have barely puts out any of the noise you normally hear with cassettes. And if I turn the volume to a quarter of the volume you can no longer hear that noise anyways. Nobody that been in my vehicle can believe that the music is coming from a cassette when they figure it out, usually by me telling them.

      I have since gotten rid of the Taurus, I sold it to my nephew and let him keep the cassette adapter. And sure enough one day he pushed in on it while the power cord was still connected and it is now broken lol. I no longer own any cassette players so I haven't bothered trying to fix it but it does seem like they are making improvements on design with physical power switches and LED indicators.

    I wonder if they fixed any of this. I have a 99 Town car (the only ford vehicles I buy are Panther cars) I kind of like the factory radio (something I never thought I would say)

    • @JustinNelsonsProjects
      @JustinNelsonsProjects  Год назад +1

      I suspect there's not quite that much of a market for cassette adapters these days. Obviously if you have a classic vehicle and you want to keep the original stereo, which happens to have a cassette deck, this is definitely a marketable product for that niche...
      I would love to see a Bluetooth 8-track - a lot of 1970s classic cars came with an AM radio / 8 track deck! My point of that is, the market for such a product would be so small it would not be worth even developing.
      My point being, as far as fixing little nitpicks and making a $15 product better, where there's really not that much of a market, and that market gets smaller by the day... I kind of doubt we'll see too much in the way of improvements.
