I watched this every day as a kid. I idolized Rainbow though. She was the only female heroine in that era of cartoons who was noticeably given flaws and felt a lot more authentic and grounded because of it. I've always loved the way Rainbow's entire personality was written and portrayed. She was the perfect amount of tomboy without it ever feeling like it took anything away from or overshadowed her femininity. Everything that went into what we know today as Rainbow Brite (the original, both the character and the show itself) was like catching lighting in a bottle, and that in itself is one of those rare things that only some are fortunate enough to be able to experience or have in this lifetime.

This film is sort of a cult classic among people who grew up in the 80's in Mexico.

I remember seeing this movie once on TV, enjoying it, but I never found it ever again. Then again, when it came to cartoons in the 1980s, I generally enjoyed most of what I saw, even if my memories are oftntimes quite hazy. I enjoyed Transformers and My Little Pony in equal measure. He-Man and She-Ra likewise. And Rainbow Brite was another one of those cartoons I enjoyed as a kid myself. Thanks for the nostalgia trip.

The Star Stealer's design and personality reminds me of Madame Medusa from the first Rescuers movie.

      Yep
The character designs of Lady Lovely Locks were similar to that of Sleeping Beauty (Disney)

I vaguely remember seeing this in the cinema around the time this was released. My sister was a Rainbow Brite fan back then.

The villain is what got me to be interested in the film. Her 80's character design is awesome.

"The least engaging character is Rainbow Brite herself."
I disagree. For me, she is the most engaging person in the movie, although I didn't find anybody in the movie to be not engaging. The one thing that I could fault is that her friends/partners get extremely little time or importance here. However, that can be justified by the length of the movie, & they DO get (deservedly) more time & importance in the TV show. Finally, the TV show & movie focus on their plots above all else. I never once felt like they were thinly disguised long commercials. (I truly love the TV show "My little pony n' friends", but that was unquestionably exactly that, although their plots were otherwise okay.)
On an unrelated note, in future videos, talk faster. The temptation to make youtube play this one a LOT faster was overwhelming.

I will talk at a speed I find comfortable, but you may speed up the video if you like. I'm glad you enjoyed the content regardless, and it's good to see people who like the show/film
