December 1980 I was on a cargo ship anchored at Visakapatnam India , my father got serious , I tried my best to arrange a visa but no chance. Luck was against me. My father expired without me knowing exactly what happened , and then I had to go via Calcutta port to Singapore and left ship from Singapore. Arrived home three month after the death of my father…still missing that time…will never forget it.

My father spend 35 years on a ship. He stuck in war for the first time for 6 months, 2nd time stuck in war for 22 months. He was sailing both times when my grand father and grand mother died. My mother died after 1 year of his retirement. Because my mother suffer extra ordinary because of his job. That's why me and my brothers didn't join the merchant navy.

Very well said I grown up like that when we need him he was in ship.back of the days there was no mobile or Internet. Other dark side is you donot get ships frequently. What ever he earned by the time he get next ship all finished. There is not alot of ships .

Even as a layman..I can say Sir, thr r some more issues related to this profession which can be covered..on top of that mental health issues..wn u r away from land n follow same routiene over n over, week in week out, element of home sick on top of tht u r mentally ruptured. In some cases wn seniors stress u out it gets worse. The sense of Commrade ship must stand there. The long process of signing in/out n the nos of flights involved during tht process is exhausting. The desire to eat fresh food n vegitables becomes ever so strong. To put cherry on top of all..when u r unable to celebrate ur religious festivels is ever so low point in sailors life. btw I figured out all of this by watching ur vides sir. God bless u all!
