    are you brave enough to total up the amount of money you have spent on your horses in the last year?

    • @nixequestrian3721
      @nixequestrian3721 7 дней назад

      Yes, I do it twice per year lol- it helps me to avoid falling into the over consumerism trap ie. It makes the 'admittedly, usually very pretty' saddle pad or boots or bridle or riding tights etc. much easier to admire but not buy when I have a clear idea of what my ponies cost me day to day & use the 'if I still want/think I need it in 6months, I can get it then' trick- I have 2 on my mental list this month- a mounting block & a high quality pooper scooper with fork for mucking out the hilly paddocks (combined purchase of over $400), which will be purchased in May as it was Nov last year I thought I'd like them. Having them in mind allowed me to pivot away from the immediate cost of summer covers that I thought I 'needed' for this summer (& would have come to almost $800) & instead purchase insect repellent collars ($68 for the 3months of fly season).

    Hi Karen 😁
    I kept a couple of horses for a few years when i was younger. Its is an expensive hobby, if we want to call it that ...... every penny i spent on my horses was paid back ten fold in learning about horses, breaking and riding the horses. Galloping along the beach, watching them play together. There is no amount of money could replace those memories. Some people spend that on designer clothes ... out of fashion in a year 🤷‍♀️, others buy expensive cars. Some are in the pub getting sh_t face every weekend. They have nothing to show for it in the long run. Do not beat yourself up! You know deep down that you and your horses deserve it! Enjoy yourself 😁😁😁😁😁❤

      Hiya
      Yes the memories we’ve made has been worth the money spent,
      The horses are our whole life, we dont go out drinking or buying expensive clothes,
      I love the life that we have given our children, there very hands on, outdoor kids that arnt shy of a bit of hard work x

    That is nothing-I spend £43,000 per year on one mare and six geldings, and the geldings' costs are shared! All of them are retired ex-eventers. The veterinary team here has a baseline emergency call-out fee of £400.
    That said, the geldings are in full livery with 24/7 care, while the mare is living her best life with me. Considering how feed prices fluctuate, I’m grateful to still have a few sponsorship deals. The sponsors always want the horses for a photoshoot once or twice a year.

    Hi Karen ,many congratulations on having over 9000 subscribers 😃 yours is such a fab channel!
    You are brave adding up horsey costs !! I dread to think what mine are 🙈🤣
    Your horses are your life and beautifully looked after, and pretty much everything to do with horses is expensive , not just in money but also time ,effort,sheer hard work and emotional commitment . But I don’t think you’d be without them 🥰 xx

    • @KarenBadrick1

      Hello 👋🏻
      Thank you so much, I can’t believe I’ve made it to 9000 subscribers, I really am over the moon and appreciate each and every one of you ❤️
      Sadly I don’t think it will be any cheaper next year like I was hoping for as the horse box has already cost me double what it did last year just to get it through the MOT 🫣
      Yes nothing to do with horses is cheap, we must all be mad to have horses but as you say I wouldn’t be without them 💙 xx

      Thank you so much for being here, I really do appreciate each and everyone of you.
      I dont know why but asking people to like and subscribe feels so awkward when I’m filming 🫣 but if I want to reach my goal of 10k by the end of may I really must step it up with reminding people
      Thank you x

    Wow Karen, that seems a lot to me, but I know that keeping horses and going to shows is far from cheap. I'm happy your channel is growing and I am looking forward to seeing how you do in the showring this year. I also love to see training videos. ❤️🐎

    • @KarenBadrick1
      @KarenBadrick1  7 дней назад +2

      Thank you
      I was shocked to see the total number, I knew it wasn’t going to be a small amount but it still shocked me
      There is definitely more cost that I have forgotten to write down, as after filming this I remembered that I had sent £300 on rugs for ebby and pip, and we also had the sheath cleaner out that wasn’t written down
      Show season starts In just 4 weeks 🤩 so the show prep and training videos will all be coming very soon x

    Hello! An organised mind , I keep a book it is the only way to keep everything together as long as incomings keep coming in !! cost of living is ridiculous, I have no doubt that your straight forward attitude to organisation will pay dividends and if it is any consolation with five horses I was expecting a hIgher total annual figure! Best Wishes xxx.

      Hello 👋🏻
      Yes keeping a book of all the incomings and outgoings is the only way I can keep everything together
      The cost of living is so bad at the moment, bills keep creeping up
      Thank you so much xx

    If it makes you feel better I spent over £6000 on my one horse last year! Kept on DIY Livery. My biggest expense is hay and feed, I can't reduce my hay cost but I will definitely be looking at spending less where possible too! Although this year is not off to a good start, she got injured in the field so I had out of hours vet (on a Sunday) and then back on the Monday to x-ray, plus bute and antibiotics. So my January bill is almost £900, and the vet is back next week to re x-ray as we are concerned there is a hairline fracture. Yeah, I think I'll be spending more on her this year hahahahelpme

      @KarenBadrick1  7 дней назад +2

      Horses are so expensive to keep arnt they 🫣 but we wouldn’t be without them 💙
      Oh no, vet bills are the worst, and why do they always get injured on a weekend 😐 I hope she is feeling better very soon and praying it’s not a hairline fracture 👏
      Keep me updated with how she’s doing xx
