*Christian Bale's physical and psychological dedication do depict his characters as convincing as possible makes him one of the greatest movie stars ever*
Ge doesn't go through physical dedication in all his 54 movies that he has done so far, but in some of them yes. In this movie it's most psychological dedication and not physical!
Really happy to see Harry Melling in great indie-focused roles that are complex and challenging. Keep an eye on him - he's going to be in everything very soon.
That movie is consider the best western movie ever made to this day and at the time of its release it was consider the best western since Unforgiven was made back in 1992.... I don't think its underrated its just westerns isn't as big as they use to be so its not something you hear talk about often.
If you have not already seen the prior collaborations between filmmaker Scott Cooper and Christan Bale, I highly suggest checking out *Hostiles* and *Out Of The Furnace*
This is how trailers should be. I know it's labelled a 'teaser,' but this hooks the viewer right in and gives next to nothing away. This makes me want to watch it.
While I do appreciate it not spoiling the ending, I have no idea what it's about, so this sort of trailer doesn't really work for me^^ Not even sure what this is, whether it's supernatural or more grounded?
really? I have no idea what the movie is about. It's just your typical generic trailer that sounds exactly the same as every other trailer with the stupid dramatic music and tense beats.
Yeah, this is way on the other end of the spectrum. I have no idea what it's about except that it's got Edgar Allen Poe and some goth violence. What is Christian Bale's role? His character? The stakes of the story? No idea. This is trailer as vibe and that's all. Except the vibe isn't even clear because so many trailers are like this.
I usually hate trailers, this one was perfect. I have no idea what it's about besides some general settings/environments/time frame and the fact that it's an edgar allen poe story played out by some great cast members. Why are trailers always giving away the whole plot
I adore how much works by writers like Poe and Lovecraft are coming back into fashion and, at least in some cases, being treated seriously. my only concern is that Scott Cooper has thus far been the master of well made, well acted, but strikingly Mid movies.
Lovecraft has never gone out of fashion, especially in the U.S. His influence is everywhere in American horror and pop culture. Why do you think it's called Arkham Asylum in Batman?
I don't get Bale's fascination with and love for working with Cooper, I guess maybe he's a really nice guy, and those films are ok, definitively mid as you say, but there are just much much better filmmakers out there who I'm sure almost every single one would love to work with Christian Bale. And while I enjoy every single Bale performance, the ones he's done with Cooper are probably some of those which least stand out in his career, there's just not that much use of his incredible range. Hopefully this film will change my opinion on this matter.
Poe has been pretty consistently popular and VERY influential ever since he published, his reputation with scholars of American literature is right up there with like Mark Twain and Maya Angelou. I doubt any of his works have ever gone out of print and they've been adapted to stage, screen and an incredibly brilliant episode of the Simpsons (which is itself old enough now to show that Poe has been popular for a long time). Lovecraft doesn't have quite the same lofty reputation with highbrow types that Poe does but he is considered very important and influential as a genre author. His stuff has also been in print pretty much since publication. There was maybe a period where his popularity waned a little but even if he wasn't selling super well you could safely assume that any dark fantasy or horror author who WAS selling well had read their Lovecraft very closely.
@@pbyguy7059 there's a distinction between being popular with academics or within one's own genre and having popular appeal. I think it's pretty undeniable that there hasn't been huge popular demand for adaptations of Poe or Lovecraft for the several decades, and while most people are familiar with their names they're probably not that familiar with their works. However the last decade or so has seen a huge resurgence in interest especially in Lovecraft, although I don't think I've noticed quite such a growth in EAP's public image.
Christian Bale's acting has always been exceptional, but Harry Melling? Absolutely incredible! I have scenes I had to re-watched because I was appalled by how convincing and excellent Melling was. The movie itself is great as it is. The plot, the twist, everything. Wow. A must watch.
Same ! I absolutely adored him in this movie, his take on Poe was refreshing and so very charming. Christian was fantastic as always but I seriously cannot get Harry’s performance out of my head
Every single actor in this movie was phenomenal! I knew Cristian Bale would deliver, as always. But Henry Melling stole the show! His acting and accent were spot on, truly superb! I couldn't look away from the screen for a single second!
Read this book a long time ago, it's a great one! A little slow in the beginning but eventually it picks up and it has some great twists and turns closer to the end, a great read, never expected to see a movie adaptation of it, so I'm looking forward!!
I'm reading "The pale blue eye" right now, it's very addictive and intriguing, and I'm looking forward to the release of this movie with a gorgeous cast. 🔥😊❤️
One great thing about this movie is that there is no nudity or intimacy scenes which are so common in movies nowadays. And we need more good movies like this. Family friendly movies. And yeah I'm a teenager.
Out of the Furnace is mad underrated. That movie will move you emotionally. Seen it 3-4 times. "You gotta problem with me?(Baze) I got a problem with everybody (DeGrote)"......awesome!
Omg, that twist in the end! Very heart breaking and wonderful slow burn murder mystery thriller! I totally enjoyed the movie, definitely worth watching.
I love trailers/teasers like this. They give very little away and make me want to know whats going on. Trailers these days give away the whole movie in 3 minutes.

@SkyNet General yeah what a big fan you are of Bale so much that you are spending your whole day spamming the same comment against Bale all over youtube.
He's not making the movie, the director is! His perfomances is often great despite the movie being bad because of bad directing, bad script and story etc
Props to hair and make-up for making Harry Melling look like a young Edgar Allen Poe. I actually went to the Casemate museum in Virginia where Poe served for a time.
Christian Bale is a Chameleon! One of the very few actors that ACTUALLY transform into his character no matter what it is besides Daniel Day-Lewis or Gary Oldman IMO
I don't know if many people have seen Director Scott Coopers and Christian Bales other movie together Out of the Furnace. Not only do I think its fantastic but the scene between Bale and Zoe Salanda on the bridge is one of the most emotionally charged well acted scenes I've ever seen. I'll admit I was more than just tearing up the first time I watched that scene. And now I always get watery eyed. In my opinion that's one of the best emotionally charged scenes acted between two people I've seen. It hits all the right notes of subtly and you can feel the true pain between the two characters. I hope people will see this and go watch the movie.

Paul Allen is dissolving in a bathub in Hell's Kitchen
He does have the same traits as Daniel Day Lewis, that's for sure.

Henry Melling is killing it, from The Devil Always , to Queens Gambit and now playing Edgar Allan Poe! Dudley Dursley has come a long way 😌
The guy is having a better actor career than some other actors who had much more bigger roles in HP
The name Christian Bale is enough nothing else needed❤️
Trash a s s actor lol. Basic a s s facial expressions in all his movies. Overrated asf imo. Also I didn’t ask
💯
I literally clicked on this video just because I saw him😂
Same :D On Netflix? Even better.
Toby Jones is what sold it to me
Christian Bale, the best hero, the best villain, best detective, the best magician.
The best psycho, the best race car driver, the best army captain
Best Actor
Not a villain to me. Bale’s character executed true justice. This world’s too lenient on troglodytes who grape.
Also The best driver
and the best BatMan
Cannot wait to see what Harry Melling does with this role! Who would’ve guessed Dudley Dursley would become such an awesome actor!?!
I thought I recognised him!
Comment appreciation!
indeed, he is underated now, but in this movie he's amazing
The way Christian Bale entertain the audience with any character he portray, is always amazing. A true method actor .
He sucked as Gorr

He's in quite a few things right now. He was great in Queen's Gambit.
He’s got a distinct face I think a lot of director would sought out. Kinda inbred looking tho
@@KalumD734 lmao he grew up to be one creepy looking dude
He’s incredibly talented. He would’ve been my pick for the Joker in the Matt Reeves Batman movies.

Harry Melling as Edgar Allan Poe is amazing casting.
damn Robert Duvall has some balls to still be in movies while he's over 90
Not to mention the hard of filming under that weather should be hard.
Boo Radley is never too old
He looks really good for being 91
They propped him up with bubble wrap.
Nothing will stop Gus from completing the mission
What a cast! Looking forward to it very much! I am so here for Harry Melling becoming unavoidable in everything.
Hostiles was criminally underrated. Definitely recommend everyone to put this on the watchlist.
Oh yes excellent piece
I immediately thought of hostiles. One of the most underrated films of all time.
It was so good
