I was not expecting to find a musician that I actually think is cool. Nice work. I recently got into Dimarzio pickups. I've got 36th anniversary set but the bridge leaves me wanting just the tiniest little bit more so the 59 bridge is in the mail. Though the 36th set is the best feeling and sounding I've ever had. Anyways you had me at " shit ton of distortion " lol!

I can relate because it happened to me at about the same time. (We're dating ourselves) I think I saw them first on an Al Di Meola album cover and I can still remember the feeling to this day, I thought they were the coolest things I ever saw.
I was fortunate enough to get my first 'real' guitar back in 82 that had a zebra Super Distortion in the bridge and a cream PAF in the neck. That's been my favorite combo ever since for most things. Clean up nice, and gets as dirty as you need.

Wow that jarred my memory - the fan definitely reminded me of the movie and the eeriness it evoked - made me think of the ancient Nordics or Vikings exploring the vast cold ice worlds of the north.
Has anyone had a chance to compare these Dimarzio '59 PAF's to Gibson T-Top pickups....? I was set on getting a set of these in my LP, but just discovered the T-Tops a couple of days ago, and now I'm torn. If anyone's had a chance to play and compare both, I'd really love to hear your thoughts. Not that one might be a bad choice (no such thing here), but perhaps soundwise one might be better, though I understand the T-Tops would be more fragile due to their age and the type of wire used in their windings. Just interested in impressions of the comparison between their sound.
I have 3 sets of Twang Kings and they are the best Tele Pups IMHO. I purchased a set of these Rose Gold PUPS after all. They are going into my Spalted Agile LP copy which I got at a pawn shop across from where The Spanish Castle used to be on Highway 99 between Seattle and Tacoma.
Cool video, have been wanting to try out these PAF 59's since release, and you don't see many demos online of them which sucks. Really really dig the rose-gold!!!!

A d-activator in the bridge is fine, keep in mind the music you play. IE metal with a d-activator is a good pairing, youth gospel reggae jazz fusion maybe not so much. And yes liquifire and super D is a good combo overall

really like the 36th PAF neck. disappointed with the PAF Masters, so bit hesitant to try those 59 PAF. some people also said it just an "okay" PAF style pickups. but it sounds quite good on this demo. the middle position nailed those page's sounds, and it make me want to try it. I'll keep my eyes on 2nd hand market
I got this 59 set (neck and bridge). Sounds perfect to me. Worse every $. U really can adjust any tone u wish if u have Les Paul. Great clean, perfect crunch and readable distortions.
I've tried paf pro long before I got the 36th. tried it on both neck & bridge post. it just didn't fit with me. but I somehow I like rick derringer models, the neck one suppose to be similar to paf pro. steve blucher described it as "paf pro with more juice" when I asked some info about those old rick derringer models.

why did'nt you ask to move the toggle switch I hate that when I tap I always hit it , it could be your signature guitar add your pickups and move the toggle and make neck straighter ,wider and flatter to also tap on it

Gretchen Menn is a skilled musician and a very nice lady. She is also capable of playing a heavy (physically) Less Paul for two hours straight without bitching once about her shoulders or back.
I think these are Alnico 5 which is not accurate for a 59 Les Paul. So....pass. I went with Wolftones. Alnico 2. Some say Alnico 3, and some Alnico 4. Personally the cut and color of the Alnico 2 sounds right to me. But that is one mans opinion. I have never heard A5 on a PAF. IMO

Gibson 490r with short A5 magnet is really close to t-top if not dead on. Iv owned both.

Her solo album "Abandon All Hope" is excellent. It's not some mindless shred fest but has real musical compositions.
