My man straight dove DIRECTLY down a TOOL rabbit hole and hasn't even come up for a breath of air since 😂 Much respect, I'm loving your heartfelt, candid reactions! 🌀 🖤🌀
You made me laugh ( the kid falling from the tree), you made me cry ( your story about the parents letting out a scream you've never heard) and you have a kitty you love, and you enjoy Tool! You kinda rule!
I've been an ardent TOOL fan since my adolescence, the release of 10,000 Days was very formative for me. The band has been one of my favorites ever since. Watching your journey down the rabbit hole has given me a newfound appreciation for their work, they are simply extraordinary, and your honest and genuine reaction to it has been a joy. Subscribed homie
The Saturn reference is that Saturns orbit takes 27 years and the theory is that people will have a life changing experience or event that has an epiphanic impact on our lives every time Saturn make its return. Great reactions one love
I don't know you (beyond your videos) and you don't know me, but thanks for being a virtual pal to listen to these songs with that is appreciative and entertaining.
I agree this man is genuine and likable and just a great host. I wish I could’ve seen this live. I wish I was here live but I just found you about a week ago and I found you because you were doing tool. Or I would not have stopped and watched Love you kid.
Watching your reactions from new Zealand and love how you interpret Tools music. Saturn coming back around in the grudge makes me think it's about karma coming back on you if you don't leet it go . Love your work bro!!!!
I think its from the perspective and lens of the angels talking about the free will of man and what does he do he rejects relationship with the creator and does not choose the purpose we all have in common which is relationship with God and walking in love. Instead we rebel and fight over land and every stupid thing instead of enjoying what he's made for us we are tearing it down especially each other. It's actually a sad song. TOOL rocks so hard and has wisdom and insights for those who would listen.
loved your rant after the grudge bro.. that song is special. Its often brought me to tears. Being a capricorn and all.. not that i believe much in astrology but damn it hits home to me.
Is this one session? Like did you sit down and just blast yourself with 3.5 hours of tool exploration in a single sitting? If so that's gonna be a super unique video. Skimmed through it and it looks like you did. That's crazy man gonna be an interesting watch!
Your summation at the end of ‘Right in Two’ was 100% accurate at painting the picture of standing alone after a giant war and looking up to the heavens pondering! Love watching your reactions to Tool!
I interpret the lyrics about “Eden has enough to go around” like this. Some biblical scholars who are critical of those chapters in Genesis, look at the story of Adam and Eve being thrown out of the garden as a description of the Neolithic revolution. Where humans started growing crops and living in houses instead of hunting and gathering. The garden of Eden is just a name for the natural world. We chose to leave the garden, live in cities and go against our god given nature to hunt, gather and live in nature. So here when Maynard says eden, he’s merely talking about the natural world. For Saturn. He is speaking about the astrological concept Saturn Returns. Its where Saturn is in the same place in the sky as when you were born. It happens every 27-30 years or so and breaks up a persons life into epochs. If the person does not mature, does not give up control and grudges (the stone), Saturn will drag you down and be a teacher. If you instead mature and let go; you will be lifted up. I feel like all the celebrities who die at 27 is a testament to this theory.
Oh *YES!, you did The Patient!!* 🙌 Such an underrated one. I listened to it on repeat during the worst time of my life, it feels like it encompasses the stages of grief. It’s calm, hypnotic, soothing, hard/ the anger you can feel, melodic, optimistic, lyrically it’s more simple & not too heavy, you can just zone out & let it wash over you. Top 3, & that’s a freaking hard list to make! The end of the song is insane with how they change the vibe from optimism & light at the end of the tunnel, to then heavier & being stern, almost reminding you to take it all serious & deal with things the right way, there are just so many layers. *This isn’t even really about grief, this (musically & lyrically) ARE the stages of grief.* Who else has done or could do something like this? However you relate to it, it’s a masterpiece.
"The Patient" is one of those songs that has taken on different meanings for me throughout my life. Until this reaction, I hadn't listened to it in about 2 years. It currently reminds me of my father passing away in the hospital. "I must keep reminding myself of this" - he lived a full & beautiful life. Thanks everyone here for listening with me ❤
For the beginning of the Eulogy song: I always pictured them as alien castanets....inspiring a fun little jig or dance on somebody's grave.😊 And the other sound playing around it, is derived from the megaphone sounding voice on a soapbox delivering a sarcastic critical eulogy later in the song.
Seeing people who love music listen to Tool for the first time makes me feel a bit like a music snob...LMFAO...because I am a tool HOMER but know nothing about music and its technical elements. Hearing and seeing others talk about their talent makes me feel a bit pretentious having loved them since I was in High School in the 90's! I honestly fund this band via Beavis and Butthead, because I am THAT old! That being said, I def think Tool is one of those once in a generation bands. I imagine it is like seeing/hearing Led Zep or Pink Floyd for the firs time. Or realizing how talented a musician Prince was, etc. Tool opened my eyes to elements of music I had not known before and allowed me to broaden my appreciation for many other genres in my adolescence.
Thank you for doing “the patient”. That song is a hidden tool gem 💎, that song saved my life as a teen in 2001, taught me to be patient and things will get better and won’t be depressed forever❤️🩹. Hey I’m 39 and still here.
Someone who agrees with me! How is it not more popular? It’s a completely different vibe, but totally up there with Lateralus & The Grudge (in terms of that album) in general mind blowing “everything”.
I mean, they somehow made a track going through the stages of grief, as in, literally both musically and lyrically. When has that been done before? About grief is one thing, this song IS the stages of grief.
Thank you for doing this. I was able to study for 3 hours today while watching your stream. Keep it up! I think it would be cool if you did an entire album on stream. Maybe Fear Inoculum?
2:35:00 that is acually Justin the bassist tapping the notes on the fretboard while rolling the tone knob with his right hand. REALLY sounds like a wah but isn’t. This isn’t the first song people confuse Justin and Adam but it does happen in some songs. (Vicarious is another for instance.)
It’s funny to watch you try to explain what trust me my brother we know lol and you can’t deny the power pain pleasure peace it’s powerful and Maynard James knows that and now we share that and that’s awesome
I honestly cant stick with a favorite. It shifts over time and eventually i come back to each one as my favorite. Fear innoculum is good, but it hasnt been my favorite yet.
to your ask about why you weren't seeing/ hearing Tool as a contemporary.. It think it's twofold: 1. their songs are usually a lot longer than most other songs radio or MTV would play, even now it's a rare treat to hear them get played on a rock radio station and 2. their videos are .. special. Don't get me wrong they are very expressive and artistic and thought provoking but they also tend to be graphic and unsettling (my own opinion but i have even recently seen a rocker react to a Tool video for the first time with a resounding "What the FUCK was that???")
Hey brother i dont think i caught you live but i got a coment for you for the person that said that Fear Inoc. album only had one good song , WRONG 1st and 2nd and 4th song are F------ Awsome. who ever says diffrent should move to LA and get washed away if ya know what Im sayen. Invinsable is by far one of there best songs. pull up the lyrics
Now saying that, Maynard was forced into a church up bringing and was kinda salty at the time during lateralis. If you look into it a little the next album was 10000 days. It refers to how long his mother finally succumbed to cancer. And as she was very religious, at least in mind, he not necessarily had a change of heart of his convictions. But he also loved his mother and thought of her as an angel. And as the album proves he wanted to honor her. And probably had a couple more than hard nights writing. 😮
I love ya man…but your analysis is way over thinking. Monkeys are simply humans and Eden is just…earth. “Where there’s one they’re bound to divide it right in two”…he just means every damned human will fight over land. It’s actually one of their best songs but also easiest to understand-for Tool.
My least favorite Tool song is "Invincible", which is some people's favorite. It's the only song in their catalogue I feel is too long for its own good. Either way, Tool's music is so far superior than everyone else's that their worst song is as good if not better than most other music. (Current favorite, btw, is "Descending", which is also long, but amazing the entire way through)
Personally, Invincible is one of my favorites, but I’m not a big fan of the latter half. The riff they move into is a bit repetitive and plays out for too long without significant development. That being said, the other melodies and riffs in the song as well as the constant playing with the steady hit every three beats versus an uneven time signature are all fantastic.
I'm late to the party..but dropping a line for the Tool line up...your life will be changed my friend...do yourself a favor and eat some mushrooms and reach Tool nirvana...I felt like i actually floated when I saw them live....Amazing
3:13:35 The one time you didn't rewind. Very disappointing 😜 just kidding but of all things to listen to it again, that was one. 30 seconds of a sick ass beat with the off timed guitar coming in. Mwahhhh 👌
Sorry I missed the live stream. Looks like it was a good time. Maynard is a nickname he got in the army. James or Jimmy as his mom called him is his real name. MJK was around long before those other chuckle heads you mentioned (MGK) 😂 Brass Against has some amazing TOOL covers.
@theologyofthebody2870 I still have the copy of the 2001 Penthouse with the band interview. And they talk about the whole thing. The lawsuit almost tearing apart the band and that the album was about them And there situation going through it.
Tool was on MTV. Just not pumped as much as everything else. mtv was how I found interest in Tool on the song Sober. although mtv withered pretty quickly in later years
Well it was MTV that withered unfortunately. If not for MTV and Sober at the time being a short enough song I may have not found them so early. Fortunately for us Tool just kept going without the mainstream. I'm very greatful the story still hasn't ended!
Also one more thing if you list to that part where you said “it goes back and forth” well yeah that’s the point of that breakdown. They’re saying you can choose to believe what you can see or believe stories of these so called holy men that can control how and what you should think. So the breakdownsymbolizes the mind going back and forth. And if you notice as well that synthesizer comes in going back and forth in an almost cosmic way. Almost like a comet zipping by into the nothingness. Right after that he says “give away the stone? Let the ocean take them?” what’s another word for stone? A rock. And we are the third rock from the sun so give away the world? Let them believe in evolution? “Let the waters kiss?” Referring to Moses parting the Red Sea. “Dreamt mutiny has leaden grudges into gold”. Then the scream is frustration. If you notice it was a long scream, 24 seconds to be exact. Meaning of Numbers in the Bible. The number 24 is associated with the priesthood. Since it is composed of a multiple of 12, it takes on some of 12's meaning which is God's power and authority, as well as symbolizing a perfect foundation, except in a higher form. 24 is also connected with the worship of God especially at Jerusalem's temple. Also Psalm 72 (also a derivative of 24) lists 24 things that Jesus Christ, as High Priest after the order of Melchizedek, will do when He sits upon His throne and rules as King and Priest during the Millennium. They are the following. 1) He will righteously judge the people. 2) He will judge, with justice, the poor and needy. 3) Peace will be brought by the mountains. 4) Small hills shall also experience peace. 5) He shall judge the poor. 6) He shall save the children of the needy. 7) Those who oppress will be crushed. 8) He shall rule like rain upon grass. 9) He shall rule like the water that showers the globe. 10) He will cause the righteous to flourish. 11) He will bring the righteous an abundance of peace. 12) He shall rule from sea to sea. 13) He shall rule from the river unto the ends of the earth. 14) When he hears the needy cry out, he will deliver him. 15) The poor and those who have no help will also be delivered. 16) Those who are needy and weak will receive compassion. 17) The lives of those in need will be saved. 18) The needy who are oppressed and experience violence will be redeemed. 19) The blood of those in need will be precious in His sight. 20) He will cause an abundance of grain on the earth. 21) He will bring an abundance of fruit. 22) He will make those of the city flourish like grass. 23) He will make His name to be continued. 24) He will bless all men. Says a lot about being poor. Now all that said. I don’t think all organized religion is bad. It gives some people hope and to strive to be a better individual. And for that fact it could be seen as a good thing. But in reference to the song it’s preying on the peoples fears and lack of any true knowledge. “Let us pray”. “Amen” “SAY IT OR YOU BURN IN HELL!!!”

This man needs a new set of cans, proper-wise, pronto! Maybe AKG 240s, or some Beyer Dynamics. 🎧
can't believe i missed this😔
Also like I said before we want you to pause and to comment , anyone who snivels needs to stop watching reactions. Thank you
Also one more thing if you list to that part where you said “it goes back and forth” well yeah that’s the point of that breakdown.
Im sorry I missed this live...but enjoying the replay just as much.
