Now, here's my theory: Nobot was the droid of the woman that was murdered. As she was murdered, Nobot broke one of his protocols of not harming sentient beings and killed the murderer, sustaining the scorch and blaster marks. This likely also partially fried his vocoder, causing him to emit his noises, and the breaking of his ai caused him to focus on the memory of the murder.

I think the woman was carrying a force sensitive baby and even though the baby wasn't trained his force ghost somehow survived watching over the droid who was the last being to defend it and defend his mom. Also his recording was the only way to listen to his mom's voice, so they became companions of a sort.

This is especially true if the murderer is connected to the Dark Side; perhaps an Akolyte or practitioner. Tatooine may not be a full on DS Nexus, but it is still strong with it. It would be particularly traumatic for a droid if it was used against its will - whether to commit the murder, or to kill the murderer. After saying the above, my head canon is that the woman was a Dathomirian Witch who tried to use the droid to stop her murderer, but failed. The murderer was just a nameless local thug acting on their own, so nobody even knew that they went missing. The woman didn't survive long enough to lift the spell. It hasn't killed since, because its target - the murderer - has been dead since the incident. But it's still under the spell, and can only really be stopped by a Force User or an Akolyte like a Dathomirian Witch. It's likely unaware of what's happening because it was put under the spell as the woman died. If the spell is lifted, its very last memory would be that moment that keeps playing back on loop. ~spell lifts~ "OH MY!! MISTRESS!!... Wait... Where am I? Where is the Mistress!? She's in trouble, somebody help!!"

This is really fleshed out with the story and rumor on Nobot. I wonder if he was still roaming in and around Mos Espa around the time of A New Hope. If he was, then that droid is very hardy and lasts for a long time.
What would have made this story even creepier is if whenever someone would clean the blood and blaster marks off of nobot he would wander around mos espa for a while until sunset where he would immediately leave from the same entrance that he entered from earlier that morning, only to reappear the next morning, once again covered in dried blood stains. Anyone who tried to accompany nobot as the sun went down would never be heard from again, any holotape featuring them would malfunction and any recording would be scrambled and any physical picture would be soaked in fresh blood. The last person to try to keep nobot in mos espa would find some sort of success, with nobot being a protocol droid, he wasn't able to fight back. However when the morning came, nobot once again appeared from the same entrance covered in dried blood, and the scavenger that held nobot overnight was never heard from again, he to had seemingly suffered the same fate as all those who accompanied nobot after sunset, the only difference being the complete devastation left in the scavengers house, and the dried blood smothering the walls.

Imagine a full battalion of paranoid civilians engaging him with turrets, grenades, and other assortment of weapons, only for all of it to backfire, allowing NOBOT to walk away from a battle-scarred landscape unharmed! That would be terrifying!
In Lego Star Wars, you could see another droid pop out of nowhere when you complete the Nobot story. A youtuber named Bombastic jokingly theorized it was just Nobot in a different paint job, but I think it might have some evidence. The droid is just a reskin of C-3PO but with blue arms.

I believe that witnessing the murder had made nobot become self aware and perhaps they had slain the murderer causing traumatic the poor robot forcing him to relive the horrific memory and the battle had fried his vocoder causing it to sound like pained screams
People gave their theories so I think I'll give mine! The womam was a politician/political target in hiding, Nobot was her droid, but also a spy that gave her location off. When she was confronted, he got in the line of fire, and left behind. Maybe the way he messes with tech is one of his gadgets given to him to do his job, now perpetually on, which affects himself as well, and make him behave strangely. He being hard to capture also just being his spy programing making him adept at it. Maybe the recording has to do with the woman trying to leave a message thought him but instead just recording her death, and again, the blaster messing with his vocalizer.

I hope that they actually do end up making an actual backstory for this mystery of a character maybe they can put the GHOST DROID in an episode of some sort of star wars series that would be so incredible! Star wars would be so fun to be able to write actual scenes in the movies and shows

When I was playing as qui gon I saw him carrying a kyber brick so I followed him and after a long chase I finally caught him and took the kyber brick, I didn’t know who he was until I saw this video I didn’t know I just encountered nobot, in fact I didn’t know who nobot was until I saw this video! I just thought he was just another protocol droid in the game one of many droids who I thought didn’t matter who were just there to fill out the many meaningless droids though the gonk droids and mouse droids are not worthless, worthless droids in the game are just stand out characters while the gonk droids are able to even have names! And mouse droids are every were and wearing those stormtrooper helmets every where makes me refuse to kill them! Though there was one who accidentally killed with a mini gun. So here is my theory, everyone so far has probably heard of the overlords theory meaning that these are the beings that control everything of the force and have been watching everything ever since the beginning, well my theory is, is that nobot IS actually one of those beings and he ended doing his own thing unlike the theory of the overlords who where there in the cantina in a new hope, so the theory is that whatever happened nobot encountered an even more powerful being in this case im thinking a very powerful sith, killed the pregnant woman and because he couldn’t kill nobot because he is one of the overlords he silenced him, wiped out his memory and then nobot this whole time has been having a recording of it trying to remember what happened that’s just my theory though
