The Vz58 has been a national symbol to Czech (technically Czechoslovakian back then) soldiers much like the classic M16 is to the American GI... and the love for the Vz58 is grounded in the weapon's effectiveness. As a Warsaw pact era main arm, the Vz58 was a highly dependable 7.62x39 rifle that was lighter and more accurate than the AK47 - AKM type rifle.
So how fast can it go with a @PrimaryArmsOptics ballistically calibrated 3x prism sight?
FYI that slick bolt release was from @PolenarTactical

that cool bolt release is from Polenar Tactical's web shop!
I have one of those on my CSA VZ58 and even though it's working it's not working greate for me, it's realy stiff and i havn't been able to figure out why in the years i have had it. Realy nice if it works though!
@@JarlBSoD put some Loctite copper grease on it and if it doesn’t help use 4mm reamer to clean bolt catch hole in the receiver, sometime they can by off spec. 👊🏻😉
You said there wasn't a 3x prism previously but there was the much larger version the gen 2 is very nice just big I wish they would make a 4x in the 2x size with a better rerical like the one in the lpvo 😢
I love the bolt release and the dual mag release for the VZ 58. I have both on mine. I also put m lok polymer furniture and pistol grip from Zahal, and adapter to put the polymer folding stock off an AK.
Hey guys I have a challenge for you. .310 Martini Cadet was shot out to 800 yards in cadet competition. I bet it can't be done by you guys. 💰
when we shot it in the czech military back then, we shot up to 400m. The final boss target was a "machine gun nest target" at 400m.
how did the men do? was it expected for soldiers to hit it?
@@9HoleReviews those years ago, it was not too strict :) But we were supposed to hit that for real, that was predefined as kind of "study plan", so to say. But i remember it was also hard to see and we shot that with just iron sights (set to combat distance, not 400m mark), prone position. No 3x magnifying scopes there in 2002 :) But this was set as regular shooting excercise (I think it was one full magazine - started at 150 infantry size target and ended at the 400m mechine gun nest). I dont remember what the success rate was, honestly. Nobody made some statistics on who hit what and how much that day or throughout the time :) those simple times were when CZ army started to slowly become fully professional and transitioned to a modern army.
@@9HoleReviews 95 % of soldiers from my platoon were able to hit a 300m target but border patrol had better training than regular army.
@@9HoleReviews Legend says that once, once day a conscript in Czechoslovak army actually accidentaly hitted the target. 😀 Seriously, shooting at 400m with mechanical sights with this is a nonsense, most of people I know were glad that they hitted something at 50 meters and a lot of people sho served during communism say that they didn't actually shoot that much, it was like few magazines during their whole military service. 😀
I understand that in some cases when several people are shooting in direction of enemy at 400m, it can push enemy back or something, but just aim at person size target and hit it on that distance? That's not something a conscript is able to do.
The Czechs make some amazing guns. I love their CZ75s.
Shadow 2 is 🎂
The CZ75b is the only alternative I'd take to a Beretta 92f if I couldn't get my hands on one of those. The accuracy and reliability are hard to beat.
I own several CZ 75s Rami P01 p07 and 2 75 compacts and a pre b

Back in COD Black Ops 1 days, I was a GOD with that auto CZ pistol 😂 man I made people rage quit, now that I'm older, these younger kids are waxxing my ass 😂
Awesome to see how well Henry has that 7.62x39 cartridge doped!
My number one gun regret was trading mine. It had a folding stock. It was nothing like an AK, smaller and more handy.
Zdravím vás z České Republiky, 😀👍
nazdar! :D
Ahoj!
Ja zdravim z Kanady. To byla nase sluzebni zbran v dobe me zakladni voj. sluzby 1967-69. My jsme meli verzi se sklopnou operkou. Strileli jsme na 100 a 200m
There's just something about the open top design. What a machine.
Seeing you wearing vz.95 jacket makes me proud Czech :D
Quite crazy how a gun developed in 50s is super ligh and rather smooth for the caliber.
Most light milled asalut rifle until BREN 2.
@@DOMINIK99013 i wonder how well Henry would be with an optical looks like the Czechs did it again
If you think the 58 is smooth and light for the calibre you should see the ZB26.
Definitely Czech engineering being great helps, but I’d guess the low recoil is mainly due to the lighter short-stroke gas system, how it’s gassed in general, and what appears to be a modern muzzle brake.
However even this comes at a cost. I’ve heard several people who have had experience with the vz. 58 and the AK note that the 58 is less reliable and also uncontrollable in full-auto.
The AK is heavier and the recoil more brutal (I mean, if you can really can it that lol) because its highly-gassed long stroke system will push through grime and fouling aggressively in a way the 58 cannot.
The vz. 58 was still a very nifty package for the ‘50s though, coming off of an era where self-loading rifles were generally VERY finicky AND heavy as fuck.
Betterer sks
Simple, i see VZ content... I like
I just drilled and tapped my receiver to put an RS mount on my VZ58, specifically for the PA 3x micro. It looks badass, and I can't wait to shoot it.
I have the 5x prism on my M1A Scout in place of my rear iron sight. Love it.
I have been waiting for this one almost as much as the trap door! In the same way that Ian randomly started collecting French guns, I started randomly collecting Czech guns
These torso sized targets are in fact CZ-ONE TARGETS. Just saying... Greatings from Czech Republic my fellow Americans! Good and high quality content! Thanks a lot guys! 👍
those "torso" targets are deceiving because they look like full torsos and mess with you when you try to use them for range-finding. They're closer to a SAPI plate / body armor plate size.
I know. I like to play with languages. C-ZONE TARGETS or CZ-ONE TARGETS? I have hearded, you have a lot of Czech-Points at airports... 😂Love your channel a lot!!!@@9HoleReviews
Last but not least. This NIKE logo looks like the Czech/check one! Right? 😁@@9HoleReviews
@@bedus6733hey guys, Czech this out!
Thanks for inventing my vz61 scorpion!
Love that beaver barf furniture.
I’ve got one of the Century VZ2008’s. Runs well. I did some tinkering on it and SBR’d it and relocated the sight to over the gas block. Added a side rail mount, exc. Sweet little setup.
I love my vz 58! Originally bought it just because it was something different to add to the collection, but it immediately became one of my favorite shooters.
I owned a Czech Point USA CZ-58, it was an amazing rifle, so much lighter than an AK, I did have one part break on it, a disconnecter I believe. I like bolt hold open feature. It and my Norinco AK were same accuracy. I could get 10 shots inside 4” at 100 with surplus ammo, clay pigeon killer! I had aimpoint mirco on mine with ultimak style mount I believe, think it was from Canada. My accuracy tests were done with iron sights
Sergeant Scott and Sergeant Stonebridge Strike Back vibes
Thank you for still doing videos on the VZ58!
The Vz58 had always been a handome and unique rifle. Cz-USA should make them
Not sure if CZ even has the tooling left, in Europe they are not making them anymore but CSA are (Are they maybe called Czechpoint-USA in US?), i don't know if they are using old CZ tooling but they are 100% parts compatible with an original VZ58, atleast the EU made ones.
@JarlBSoD they're mostly milled so it shouldn't be hard
The tooling‘s gone. That’s why they never produced the updated successor
There are likely too many of them left to justify making new ones.
VZ USA has parts and rifles and I think they recently got tooling.
for the 2 vz58s I found in Iraq mags were scarce (03-08'). However, Astan (17-21') 6 guns with about 6 mags each. Love shooting the guns. Brass ejects almost straight up like the PPSh41.
I took home about 50 mags from AFG, VZ58s were in alot of inventories for some reason
Yes, comrade!
58 likes steel more than brass btw.
Love my VZ 58 interestingly enough there WAS a pretty decent Canadian aftermarket for it
Interesting and well done VideoI
I have a customized Century Vz2008/Vz58 and LOVE it!
I was literally on the way nack from prague and talking about you guys, while i got the notification that this video dropped
Czech'd it, wreck'd it 😗👌🏻
That's a mighty fine field jacket you've got there Henry.
Is that the Czech Vz 95 you’re wearing on the range, Henry? 👀
Just saw the flag on the left arm, it sure is!
yes, you are right.
@@bitkarekDíky! I see in another comment that you served in the Czech military. Thanks for your input :)
Cool rifle, but the chorus sayz We wantz Valmet - You've already spilled the beans...
I have that same sight on my CSA VZ58…great combination
I really like all my VZ58's they just run
Seems like a really underrated rifle... nice run. I might have to pick one up one of these days.
I love❤ when new 9 hole reviews videos come out! I especially enjoyed the series of MK12 videos that inspired my own Mk12 mod 1 build with the KAC rail... I like the M16A2 video alot!
The 58 and 858 are great rifles.
What i was taught in the Croatian military for 7.62x39 AK' TT specs, effective range with full-auto bursts is 300m, aimed single shots up to 400m
I have the bolt release and ambi-mag release on mine love the vz58
nice VZ95 camo matching the gun
there was qyuite a bit of aftermarket support for vz 58 rifles in canada. they are sadly banned now so the aftermarket isnt advertised as much anymore. i do miss taking mine to the range as its now a safe queen unfortunately
These small prism scopes make for some great mount setups. You can put them in place of the rear sight on an M1 Garand and clear the ejection port so that you can still reload normally.
Thanks for more great content Josh and Henry...
VZ58 - the connoisseur's classic Combloc 7,62x39 rifle. Less than 1 million made vs 70 million (?) AKs in all its variants. My R/O really appreciates the bolt hold open. Magazines are made by FAB Defense Israel.
I almost prefer the VZ platform over the AK for how nice the trigger is and how little recoil it has for the caliber and weight. They feel like they're made to a higher quality standard than the AK platform, at least to my non-professional, non-military, civilian mind, lol. It really is disappointing that they're not more popular or prevalent on the civilian market, and I'm not sure why that is (maybe it's the open top design that limits the use of optics coupled with proprietary magazines). If they were more popular then we might have some decent furniture kits for them to make them more of a modern platform (m-lok fore ends, railed gas tubes, QD muzzle devices, collapseable/folding buttstocks, replacement pistol grips, etc.). Until that happens though, the AK will continue to be the predominant 7.62×39 platform. As far as I know, FAB Defense is the only company really making furniture kits for the VZ platform.
There’s plenty of options out there now. Not like it was 10 years ago.
In 1996, I had a version with a folding stock as a non-commissioned officer. Shooting was done only with metal sights. Shooting was done lying down at a standing target at 200m and at a lying target. Above 300m to 400m, only shooting at the rubbing car was counted. An interesting thing was that you could learn to shoot a burst after two shots. Forced to tap magazine before loading for better reliability. Great memories. Thank you.
my biggest hitch with teh VZ that has stopped me from going all in on the platform has always been the mags
Meh. Not even all AK mags fit in every AK.
I have somewhat quelled my worries about that by purchasing a total of 30 mags ✅
@@ToastbackWhale you are absolutely correct however the compatibility of AK mags is far less of a consideration to take into account than sourcing a somewhat uncommon mag. BUt I also tend to look at preparedness through the eyes of a logistician rather than an infantryman
On the one hand, it's incompatible with AK mags. On the other hand, they're better than (steel) AK mags, and widely available.
Not just bolt holdopen button, there are even aftermarket 45° throw safeties, and more importantly, ambi/extended magazine release buttons. You can activate it with your right hand index finger and use the fresh mag to push the emty out, significantly shortening the reload time.
These upgrades bring the old vz. 58 basically up to contemporary standards with regards to ergonomics.
I like your red tie. Power move!
Its true that the aftermarket support is small, but it is there. The options available, much like ar's and ak's, range from bad to really good, just depends on where and how you search. If youre lazy and just want 50 different handguard options, this isn't the gun for you. If however, youre patient and heavy into researching said handguard options, you'll find something that fits your budget or preference. I can definitely say that the surplus, spec ops parts for these are awesome quality, a bit pricey is all, but well worth it.
I love watching you guys on the speedway. I used to shoot in my reserve days. Unfortunately, I don't get to shoot anymore. Please keep the programmes going. 👍👍👍
I always thought the same thing about 762x39….short to medium range….but when my eyesight diminshed and I either scoped or red dotted my AK’s…i was able to hit out to 200 very accurately….before that I was lucky to hit consistently at 100 yds. Ive also seen some guys posting bolt guns shooting 762x39 quite a ways. Longer barrels and good glass really helps.
Awesome as always. On an offbeat note ... would love to see Henry shoot the Blaser LRS2/Tac rifle in one of your series. Have it set up same as one the military or police groups and see how it performs! Please!
I absolutely love the 3 power primary arms prizm for 5.56. lightweight and small with wide view and absolutely all you need for 200 yd deer hunting, and doubles as a great most distance defensive optic. The two power is better for fast and close, but the extra little bit makes identification that much more Shure.
Always interesting to see one of those locked open. It looks like someone knocked a brick out of the top of a wall.
I love 7.62x xxx stuff. Keep up the great content. I’m curious how this would contend with a 7.62 ar build.
This was in ArmA 2, although the "damage" on targets was tuned to 5.45 effectiveness and not 7.62x39
As always great video and great information 👍👍👍
I'm happy they are shining the light on the 58 and this optic. I have a bolt hold open enhancement feom VZ58USA but i assume its the same. I also suggest an ambi mag release as the stock one even with the new trigger guard is pretty woeful...This is pretty much my exact setup. I just got a little fancier with a rail and vert grip and a folding sig style stock. The furniture they have on theirs is making me regret that decision
Which sig stock did you choose?
I'd like to see you do a run with the M&M m10x hybrid in 7.62x39. It's a swiss design , built in the USA in Colorado !
Whenever conversation around 7.62x39 comes up. I'm reminded of an interview with Kalashnikov in regards to the development of 5.45. Where he was more interested in the development, refinement of 7.62 verses the development of an entirely new cartridge..........
there were some nasty and scathing letters that he wrote to the russian MOD about moving to 5.45 too...
Nice run very informative
I saw this video pop up, went up to a buddy and said “Yo Czech this video out!”
Ok I’ll walk myself out
I love the larger version of that optic. Not sure I’d feel the same about the smaller version…
The 2x Henry talked about is a much different optic whose form factor is better suited to the AK platform than that 3x.
Awesome
Biggest mistake I ever made was trading my vz 58. Best Damm gun. So much fun
Y'all gonna showcase a vhs2/Hellion? Would be cool to see the performance of the 16" vs 20" barrel
well done!
ahh, another video on my favorite rifle
Love it
yeeeeeees! finaly! thanks! :)
Great!
The sighting system is key with the operator.
I've heard good things about gundocthor rails.
Czech was like they forcing AKs on all, lemme make a look alike while actually doing my own stuff
Bren 2 in x39 for comparison?
That would be a good idea because its the new service rifle!
@@bones1x285 service one is 5.56x45 (unfortunately)
@@xmeda US overlords caliber, even though it is a worse round compared to ancient M43.
9-Hole needs to take on Eric Cortina’s “Blackjack” KNL Challenge
Vz58 is the better AK.
Czechnology :)
Henry, do you think you'd be able to shoot the Canadian non-restricted version (19" bbl) a little better? I have one with irons only and I can make consistent hits with the irons out to 300 yds (or at least I could until Canadian law changed making it a safe queen).
I have 6 Ak's and 2 VZ58's, both VZ's shoot 1-1.5 in better at 100yds than my most accurate AK.. And the most accurate ak has a cheap US melonite barrel, which is probably why its the most accurate as its not chf or chrome lined.. which usually kills the accuracy but lasts much longer than us melontie barrels..
It pleases me to hear that I am the OG.
As Czech I hereby rename you from Henry to Jindřich.
PTR 32...someday
I'm really curious how that would compare the vz 58
If nothing else, the PTR is a lot heavier. Especially if you put the collapsing buttstock on it.
My argument about the cartridge would be that it was designed to be effective out to 300 metres maximum for the combat doctrine of the time. Any further, you left it to the DMR's with their 7.62x54r's!
I just ordered a 3x 300BLK/7.62 prism. I ordered the previous gen though, as i want to piggyback a red dot and the new versions just cant.
Nothing to do with this run per se, but I've been thinking that given current era military challenges that you need an aerial target test. While shooting small drones would not be cost-effective, perhaps clay pigeons?
You'd be sending bullets off into the unknown. No range would allow that. You'd have to go out in the desert or the ocean.
@@JackManiacky True. It's a big problem.
Strike back!
Now do PTR 32
Impaaaaaaaact!
Try a 16 inch .300blk 110 grain supers
What ammunition was being used?
The only thing I can say is that this rifle is accurate.
Heh. With my Valmet Rk95 in the FDF service we were putting rounds up to 600m with nice consistency even for just rank-and-file Jaegers. Ok, yes, Valmet is at least 10 steps above Vz-58, but the round is capable if the shooter is. Oops... Finnish philosophy after Simo Hayha (aka White Death aka Belya Smiert): "Practice, practice, practice."
Dont make people laugh. vz.58 puts out rounds consistently to 3600m. Your 600m Valmet is 6 times worse, that it could only consistently shoot up to 600m. And having no military while becoming happy cannon fodder like Azov '3rd brigade' xD I guess you think like NATO-ids think, that you can shoot a tank with a Valmet and it explodes or runs away. Your IQ must be very low.
Yay
This ain't no place for a hero ...
I'm surprised that it did as well as it did.
Could you do the PSAGF5 it has a fn barrel
There's an upper hg rail that used to be made in Canada back before Trudeau banned the vz58...
these things are supposed to have 800RPM in full auto, must be absolute madness in 7.62
Awesome video, gentlemen----as per usual! I really enjoy your comment. Also, I'm a fan of the micro prisms in general, for whatever reason. Well done!
IMO The only things that an AK has above a VZ58 is parts availability and *maybe* longevity without cleaning. A VZ58 is lighter and trimmer than a standard AK. To me the faster feel of the recoil makes follow up shots a lot easier than with a stock AK too. Of course the most 'gamerized' AK is going to blow the most 'gamerized' VZ58 out of the water, but who wants to spend that much money on 7.62x39 gun these days anyway? (me, its me i want both)
