I'm mostly on Seo's side here because I know that situation could feel very disheartening, but I also understand Earl being upset at himself, valuing personal space a lot, and not wanting to hug someone. What I do dislike is him bringing up luck, sneakily suggesting her success against him was a matter of luck with a backhanded compliment like "you're luckier than me" while tearing himself down with "I'm bad luck." Shameful to do that to a young admirer of yours.

Fact is this. She was luckier than him. Did you not see the break? Earl didn't catch a break. She did. That can be a difference. She played exceptional. Early on, snookering him like that? Tripped him up. Downhill from there.
@@user-wl7dt1uw2e You're right, and that shows how Efren truly was a superhuman because he barely caught a break in his mid and late career and yet he beat everyone in major matches and became the GOAT. So that shows that despite his bad luck in breaks like happened to Earl here, Efren made up for it with his mastery.
If he was concerned about hugging her because of COVID, he could have at least turned toward her when they were at a safe distance, given her a warm smile, and said he owed her a hug next time. Something like that. The way he went about it was just surly and unbecoming a seasoned pro who has received at least as much from pool as he has given. She played a clean game and was a gracious opponent, and that deserves respect regardless of who the other player is.

Earl Strickland is an absolute disgrace to pool even in his heyday. He was a terrible player. He was all full of the joys of spring when he was winning, but as soon as he started losing his anger would come out, and he is still, and will always be the most disgusting, poor player in history of the game of pool.

Was great. But I remember watching, in person, a british lady playing top level 9 ball. She was amazing. Fisher? Memory fades with time, sorry. Anyway, I was there in person, had a great view of the table. And it felt like, someone could have dropped a bowling ball behind her, and it would not have phased her. Amazing focus.

She played amazing. Every chance she got to clear up she did. That's pretty much perfect 9 Ball right there. It's a shame Earl had to ruin it by being Earl. That said she must have heard of Earl Strickland before and must know what he's like, trying to hug him was a stupid thing to do.
Win or lose, Earl is (was) a legend for many players. This girl is very young and probably super excited to play and beat earl. It might've been the highlight of her career so far and Earl just doesn't understand he is now just a fan attraction in these tournaments. I wish he could try to win people's heart. Now there is no way I'd be entertained by his other matches because he was a dick, and still is a dick.

Damn, that girl would've cherished a hug from the Pearl until the day she died. She probably grew up watching every Strickland match she could get her hands on over and over. He missed a golden opportunity to show her and the world his human side, which he hides well for some odd reason, but I have no doubt is there. There are many videos and witness accounts that support that. During Efren's farewell tour, he was especially gracious when he said that Efren was the best. Even though he said that, fact is there was very very little daylight between him and Efren. A lot of people believe Earl has an overall winning record over Efren (I've looked for stats but could not find any, I'll bet Earl knows.....)

I always thought Asians avoided unnecessary touching with non family people. The Japanese bow as they meet you rather than a handshake. I thought it was odd to request it from him. She must have known he was pissed and his mood would not be in synch with an intimate good-bye. His reaction was poor despite her miscalculation of how he might be feeling at that moment. He had options other than the end he chose that could have been more appropriate to her and also allowed him to feel angry inside without exposing it for all to see. He would have had to think quickly after her offer but his emotions took over and guided his choice resulting in a less than optimal ending. She was so gentle and feminine in her game. I'm sure his macho personality did not want to hug such a feminine creature who he perceived had just demasculinized him.

It's pretty difficult to be in a real huggy mood with a girl who absolutely embarassed you at your own game... It was a short race and Earl is obviously still the better player and a legend, but it wasn't the right time to ask for a hug at all... The right thing for Earl to do would have been to give her the hug, but Earl doesn't always do the right thing -- that's part of what makes him Earl.

A lot of what Earl huffs and puffs about as 'bad luck' is just sheer misjudgement. He pots a ball he intends to play safe off of, and it's 'bad luck'. He leaves a ball hanging that was meant to land safe and it is 'bad luck'. He even mean-mugs the CHALK for falling off the rail. He's mad at GRAVITY 😂 but, despite all of this, he can still keep a straight face when he outrageously fluked that 8-ball in rack-2??? The double standards are off the chart 😅
I wonder why he still enters these larger tournaments. I can't imagine that, when all is said and done, it's not like he places high enough in the bracket to earn a decent payout. I could be totally wrong though.
