Yep, I agree. The nirvana unplugged and alice chains unplugged are two of the best live performances I've ever seen. I consider his vocals on "where did you sleep last night" probably the best vocal performance of all time
Let's put it in perspective. At that time Nirvana was the number 1 band in the world. A huge tsunami that break into mainstream. And many people think it will be like hundred of times before. It will soon be over. Many people (reporters, other musicians, the industry execs) believe they doing the unplugged was going to be the beggining of the end. Without loud electric guitars and thunderous drums, they can't give a good show. And as some people said "We sit in that cold night in NY to see the God in clay feet break in the flour, and we just saw the greatest musician of all time rise to eternity."
I don't know why I'm crying. I was 3 years old when Kurt died, he is not the voice of my generation, but his work and his personality are closer to me than the work of my contemporaries. I send you greetings from Russia.

This makes me want to relisten all the music I listened to in the 90's. Now I listen with a different ear, so to speak. I still miss Kurt.... What if... Sigh...
@@TheAdventuresofTNT I feel that, the power of music? Kurt owned this song, just like Johnny Cash owned "Hurt" 's cover by Trent reznor..peace man, i'm sure you're christian, black and white whatever, Jesus loves his chidren...sorry for the religious part but Amen

I always feel so selfish watching Kurt perform. I miss his music so much. I miss everything about how he made grunge popular. I cannot imagine the endless pain of Francis Bean.
this guy is a very enjoyable reactor, i don't really understand the way of the world, annoying screamer reviewers with 100 cuts per minute have million sub channels and this nice dude has less than 10k whatever, eh?
I feel sorry for the kids that thought these guys were a talented band musically speaking... Grohls good but the others are so simple and juvenile compared to bands that were masters of their instruments.
@latentsea Kurt wrote music for teenagers. Music is supposed to be simple and easy on the ear. When he was young and learning how to play guitar he could play like all the greats before his time and he chose to sound different and sound dirty with distortion it is grunge music. They killed glam rock and roll! But it was his emotion that he sang with that drew the people to him.
And yet these guys had the worlds ear for a few years while you haven’t achieved anything of such greatness. And what’s funny is other musicians consider them very talented, people who are their peers, then there’s morons like you.
Why would Bowie have been upset? He always saw it as a compliment when people covered his material. It's a great cover but I still prefer the original or, even better, any live version by Bowie. :) Kurt's good but Bowie blows him away vocally.
You should do more nirvana.. like polly and rape me.. very powerful songs that meant alot to kurt.. "Its better to burn out Than to fade away" - kurt cobain - r.i.p.
I knew the original long before Nirvana did this cover and I tell you, everytime I hear the original now I'm always expecting it to sound like the cover. : )
I have what few albums they managed to put out. You can hear the progression Kurt was making in his song writing. He took the simplest of elements and did astounding things. I treasure every track.
When he did MTV unplugged, he was fresh out of rehab. He literally left rehab, flew to NY, got off the plane, into a limo and taken to the set. He was super raw and emotional.
not true he was dope sick b4 the show laying on a couch and not doing well and he had someone get him dope and it got him well enough to make it thru this show.
I still remember the exact day and place I first heard Nirvana, and man it made an impact. And then Seattle exploded with all those other great artists that made the early 90's effing epic!
I too loved Metal Gear Solid 5. The beginning is hard for me to get through. I woke up in a hospital with no memory after a brain aneurysm ruptured in my head in 2010. When I play that opening, I cry every time. And the music is genius. This is an amazing cover. You gonna play Death Stranding? I might stream it. I hope I don't cry. :)
Wow man, that’s an incredible story. I’m glad your still with us. Death Standing looks weird and convoluted but I love everything kojima so I’ll be giving it a shot. I wish it was mgs6 but I’m satisfied as long as it’s a kojima game

Ummm no... not that great on guitar...3 chords... listen to Hendrix if you want to hear an upside down guitar (as if it matters which way it is strung).
Nirvana is a band that was better live than on vinyl. They were crowd intimate in a way that made them feel like they were a kink standing 20 feet away. They aired it out. They told you in music. You felt this spent emotion that maybe you have never felt before. "Sure, I had a partner that was a drag, but were they a magnet tar pit?"
I agree with you man, Kurt however covered a few songs, even tho he couldn't always play what he was singing. On stage they would often goof around and even do covers or attempts to, somehow you never knew what to expect. It's sad he's not around to make music anymore.
You had me right up to 6:13 when you basically said he was a cover artist that could do anything. The man decided he was going to choose his favorite songs as his last ode to the world and nobody heard what he was saying. It's a shame on us that his death happened when he clearly made a plea in L.A.
They had one single half-assed rehearsal before doing this incredible performance. Dave Grohl had never used whiskers before. These people are all just incredibly talented.

I agree with you. I sometimes stop and think about Kurt and his music and what direction it would have gone over the years. Or even Dave Grohl, who really blossomed into a fantastic songwriter and musician. What would their music sound like today if they were still making music together? Nirvana was hugely influential to grunge/rock; how different would the landscape of music be today had Kurt lived?
Love nirvana always have . The unfortunate thing if kurt hadn't died cuz I have thought about this. Nirvana would have disbanded cuz dave wanted to get away from drugs. Now if kurt could've got clean they may have been able to go on . But Dave still would've had foo fighters.

Yes
26 years later.... Is he really gone?

The entire MTV unplugged set is amazing. Pure talent!

Nirvana Unplugged is the best performance of all time.

Bowie wrote this beautiful song but Kurt's voice is what made it a masterpiece. The lyrics combined with the raspy voice is just perfect.
