    Hi, after covering the cut with plastic, what all care do you have to give the plant? Can it be in full sun? Can it be watered normally?

    • @gardeningtipsandtreats
      @gardeningtipsandtreats  3 года назад +2

      Just after cutting and covering, it's better to keep the plant in shade for 4-5 days to reduce the rate of transpiration and provide less water during the period too. After that's its as usual.

    Again This video is also going to be very helpful as I'm planning to prune my adeniums for the first time. Can you tell me where you kept them after pruning, in shade or direct sunlight? And did you plant the branch you have cutted, if so, when is the best time to plant the cutting?

    • @gardeningtipsandtreats
      @gardeningtipsandtreats  3 года назад +1

      It's better to keep the plant in shade for the first two days...do not water it during the period, as it will try to increase the rate of transpiration, causing the pruned portion to become moist.
      I have not replanted the cut portion this time, but I shall be doing so in a video soon. It's better to avoid the winter season for the job, rest is fine. Rainy season does wonders, but there's a risk of rotting too.

    • @gardeningtipsandtreats
      @gardeningtipsandtreats  3 года назад

      Covering the portion with plastic takes some time to grow back shoots, sometimes as long as a month.

    • @gardeningtipsandtreats

      For the first two to three days, in the shade.. And then under the sun. Watering may be done the very next day if the soil is dry.

    Can I do this in the middle of summer? And what happens if you cut the branches and then DON'T use the plastic? I don't understand? I thought the plastic would smother it or something?

    • @gardeningtipsandtreats
      @gardeningtipsandtreats  2 года назад

      Yes mid-summer will be fine. Not adding the plastic will still give results, it's just that adding the plastic helps in sprouting more number of shoots, as the plastic sheet captures the humidity for the plant. This is a technique followed by gardeners to get more number of branches in the plant, thus producing more number of flowers in the process.

    Just got a desert rose a few days ago, there's one flower ready to bloom once it's warmer and the stem is roughly 8 inches long from the trunk. I'd have to chop the tree at the base where the stem grows for more shoots? Then chop again once they grow? Anything else to use besides plastic?

    • @gardeningtipsandtreats
      @gardeningtipsandtreats  3 года назад +1

      Nothing more than thin plastic is necessary according to me. And chopping for the 2nd time should not be done immediately. A few months gap is required.

    • @hellskitchen7853
      @hellskitchen7853 3 года назад

      @@gardeningtipsandtreats wish there was a way to send you a picture. Looks like it was chopped once right on top of the trunk then calloused. One single shoot grew out with lots of foliage and from what I can tell I think one bud. How do I know when to water? Have a lot of tropicals so I'm used to constant watering. Also it's inside ATM (I'm in 7b and it's currently below freezing) I have a lot of grow lights, one emits a white light (Mars Hydro 600w) and the others emit a red/blue light. Which do desert rose prefer?

    • @gardeningtipsandtreats
      @gardeningtipsandtreats  3 года назад

      A picture would really help I agree. Watering should be done only when the top soil has been dry for 2-3 days. Unnecessary watering will only increase the chances of root rot. As for the grow lights, I can't suggest anything to be true , as I keep them outdoors in full sunlight. And one more thing I can suggest, donot prune it until its spring or early summer. The new shoots won't sprout in cold weather.

      It should be kept in shaded area for 4-5 days,after the cutting. And watering should be limited after that, only when the top soil dries up. Never put water on the cut portions, that will cause rotting and fungal attack.
