When I was in highschool, I would spend two hours getting ready for school, curling my hair and doing my makeup. It was definitely an obsession and really fed into my insecurities. I wish I had the kind of confidence and skincare knowledge that I have now (shout out to Cassandra) because getting ready/skincare should not be stressful or feel like work.

After my boyfriend broke up with me I stopped doing all of that and focused of my mental health. Because of that people stopped wanting to hang out with me and some guys started spreading bad rumors cause I refused to date them. Not having a social life definitely gets you in trouble in high school. But if you have one they'll also try to ruin it.
      Thank God it's over...

Wow... we were never allowed with makeup or anything in school in fact our school promoted the concept of skincare, whether boy or girl.. at the most you could be having gloss and transparent nail paint... and i thinK thats why all of us were just tooo comfortable with each other... like I've never in my life heard anyone say anything bad about how someone looks in school.. It's high time teenagers understand that things like acne, blackheads etc. are just tooooo common at that age. Our school mentioned that even with good skincare sometimes it's unpreventable for most considering puberty and it always gets better with age..

The show deals with heavy stuff and it can be pretty dark and shocking at times. Major trigger warning for a variety of subject matter. But it also has amazing cinematography, beautiful moments, and can stretch your heart wide open. I am amazed at the energy and talent the actors (especially Rue) use for their scenes! I hope they all have psychological support for this gig.

Amazing show and so interesting that you chose this to dive into. And as someone who has bipolar disorder, yes this is absolutely the kind of shit we do when we're manic. When my acne was at its worse I became really really obsessive with my skincare routine. Specific my night routine. I would exfoliate, ice my face, do a clay mask for an hour, toner, moisturizer, topical medication EVERY DAY. That came with an extreme burnout after and only washing my face and wearing sunscreen. Altough my skin did get better. Now I reflect and recognise I was being obsessive with having perfect skin not really healthy skin.

I love that! That super cute and I can relate!
It's not the same, but I am Adhd and I would do similar things with clothing. I would spend so much time getting dressed for certain events, but I would try on different outfits. It would take me the longest time to pick an outfit. I would put on the prettiest outfits only to actually wear a plain one!! I still have some beautiful clothes with tags on them!
So, I would spend over an hour sometimes longer trying on clothes only to put on the very first outfit I tried on!
In order to combat this; I only wear black. I buy the same type of shirts so that when I go to get dressed I don't have such a large option!

I love getting up earlier to get ready for the day. I love taking my time with everything I do in the morning, not being in a rush. I actually had never got up earlier if it's not for an event up until I read Crescent City. Yeah, I know, it's kind of lame to get up earlier just because a character in a book does it, but I wanted to try it. And so I tried it, and I liked it very much. The MC, Bryce, is a really strong woman. She gets up early and gets ready for hours for herself. She sees it as taking care of herself. So I basically tried it out, and I fell in love with the routine. I don't do a face mask every morning, I don't do a full face of makeup, but I just take my time with things and don't rush anything.

Cassie, it's an excellent show, I recommend it highly!
Someone probably already explained down in the comments (I'm too lazy to look), but the context is that Cassie is sleeping with her best friend Maddy's on again/off again boyfriend. Nate, the boyfriend, pretends that Cassie doesn't exist at school despite Cassie's attempts to get his attention. She not only starts doing the obsessive 4:00 AM beauty routine, but she also starts dressing like Maddy. At this point in the show, Maddy has no idea that Nate and Cassie are screwing around behind her back.

I was really ugly and insecure in school, but I never wore makeup :/ I got up 45 min before school, 15 min to take a shit, wash my face, brush my teeth, comb my hair and put the clothes on, and 30 min to get to school. But I'm European and there's no pressure here to look a certain way in school, and kids look like kids here, not small adults. I think these problems have more to do with American culture and bullying, and it's not a universal thing.

I relate to the stuff you said about being obsessed with having friends on a spiritual level and also to the line that "I was kind of the person who floated between friend groups and never had a best friend" even as I am writing this I feel like crying because whenever I was kinda making a new friend I always had the thought that finally I am gonna have a bff too or finally I am gonna have my group of friends but that never happened and I was always such a good friend.... extremely self sacrificing and non demanding and understanding....but now later in life I understand where I went wrong I became too good for anybody also people like toxic friends kinda like how girls like toxic boyfriends....nice people are kinda boring I reckon....but that's ok I like being boring....lol 😂

I went to dermatologist and spent year and a half trying everything possible and impossible until i finally got on accutane and got my skin under control. The whole time I was really depressed and thought it would never end. You were a big support. when I was 16 I was so obsessive with my eyebrows, I would tint them every week and I would need them to be perfect. One day I messed them up and got so panicked I scrubbed off the tint and tried to redo them. I ended up giving myself chemical burns and the hair didn’t grow back in one spot for nearly a year 😂 weirdly enough it was the not being able to wear any makeup bc of the burn and severe reaction I had that made me focus on my skin health and got me into skincare, so I suppose In a way I’m thankful 😂❤️

I have sensitive dry skin (not sure if I also have mild rosacea). I tried the mugwort calming cream for a week straight, but it just made my face redder. I don't understand how this is possible :( Nothing hurt, nothing stung, the ingredients are gentle, yet my face was visibly redder, despite my skin feeling more moisturized.
A few days later I went back to the Cerave moisturizing cream and things got better (I still feel like my face needs more hydration, but at least now I'm not completely red)
Any suggestions? :( Does my skin need more time to get used to the mugwort calming cream?

I'm not sure if it's already been said, but here's the deal with Cassie, Nate, and Maddy. Maddy and Nate had an established relationship in season 1, however it was very toxic. They ended up splitting around the beginning of season 2. Nate approached Cassie when she was intoxicated and vulnerable, at the beginning of season 2. They start hooking up, except Maddy (Nate's ex) is Cassies best friend, so it has to be kept low-key. the entirety of season 2 is Cassie losing her mind while trying to keep appearances up, while keeping Maddy in the dark, and trying to catch Nates attention. Cassie tried a variety of looks to figure out what she needed to be, in order to get Nate's approval.

So interestingly enough some people have noted that Cassie seems to be a heavily BPD-coded (Borderline Personality Disorder; similar to Bipolar but very different enough to be separate and it's a cluster B personality disorder, not a mood disorder.) character (notice I say coded because it is not confirmed but she portrays a likeness to many of the symptoms you see with it). Now people with BPD don't experience mania, we experience Euphoria (Ironic I know) which typically lasts only a few hours but full-on mania can last to a week. One of the highlighting symptoms someone with BPD can have is called a favourite person, FP for short. This person is someone you practically become obsessed with to the point of shaping your whole person to fit their ideal type. This can include having an obsessive personal care routine simply because you think this can help you be noticed by them because the physical appearance that you take care of yourself is enough to please that person. It's also to note that during Rue's narration of Cassie, Rue will always bring back the point that she only does this routine for one reason/person. As you see that said person pass you she looks dejected and defeated and starts to dissociate again. There are other factors throughout the season that prove her BPD-coded tendencies/symptoms but that would be too long to explain. (Note I am someone with this disorder which is why I have as much knowledge and self-reflection as I do. I'm not saying she can't potentially be coded as anything else I'm just bringing up a different perspective to this analysis.)

The context is " Cassie tried everything to get the attention of the guy who is the Ex of the girl we see in the light grey outfit ( the same the blonde put on but in a different color )with dark hair dark eyes" out of sight out of mind" and it's only when she looked exactly how Maddy would look that he noticed her ( Maddy is his ex, the guy is violent, abusive and manipulative which is why Maddy broke up with him , and Cassie is her bestfriend )

1:52 I totally relate, ok so I don’t have acne but I’ve always had this brown birthmark on the left side of my face and at the age of 13 (7th grade) I freaking hated it, I was so insecure about it that I became extremely shy and distant towards ppl because I was afraid people would think I was ugly for that btw I hid my birthmark with my hair but it was really hard to do that sometimes and my dad never really let me wear makeup so I had to deal with it, it really sucked now that I’m 18 and for about a year I’ve been using creams to help lighten it and they have they have helped a little bit but it’s still very obvious so I just rely mostly on makeup to feel pretty when I go out hopefully the creams will completely fade it

It took me an hour and a half to get ready for school. And this was before I started wearing makeup. And I wasn't trying to impress any guy. It was more programmed into my brain that I had to look perfect everytime I left the house. So I I spent like an 45 mins in the shower and the rest of the time straightening my hair and picking the right combination of uniform for the day.
