The very first mission also didn't help the cause, I hated it. The AI were ruthless in hearing me and detecting my position. Same here, first time through missions took anywhere from 3.5 to almost 5 hours sneaking around. Worst AI of all the games in my opinion. Rubble and Ruin (mission 8, I think) is my favorite, reminds me of SE V2. The AI is frustrating though, getting on and off ladders sucks, and a lot of invisible walls (stuff you can't vault, paths you can't take), and I got killed a couple times thinking I could go a certain way and couldn't. Fun game, not enough sounds masking IMO, you are going to get discovered a lot and expect to have to relocate and plan it out, place booby traps when you can. Overall, SE3 and 4 are better games, more fun, but 5 is okay, I play one or two missions a lot, but SE 3 and 4 I play all the missions.
My one complaint so far is the blocked-off areas of the maps. Especially for a game where a lot of play revolves around sneaking, some of the paths that look like they *should* work are blocked off. Sometimes without even having something visible. The devs just decided that they didn't want you going that way. Or boxes that look like they'd be a great way to climb over a wall, but you can't interact with them.
I found in 4 it was very hard to get through a mission without alerting them.. Like a lot of guys in one certain area with no real way to pick them of one by one
Agree 4 took it to the next level in overall difficulty in certain missions I could spend almost a half hour trying to plot a way to route 3 or 4 men without being spotted or alert the crew it was engaging with its difficulty spikes !
@@nicholasholloway8743 Agree, guys must be getting paid to say this game rocks, because it doesn't. Feel the same way about 4 but the AI in 5 just sucks bad. V2 and SE 3 were more fun.

@@mylesdesertfox3957 It's a co op mode for up to 4 players who battle against 12 increasingly tough waves of enemies, including vehicles on some maps. On the highest difficulty levels - the only way to experience it, frankly - it's very challenging and cannot be defeated by simply winging it. You need a good team that knows the maps very well and the various weak points and pitfalls. There are many subtleties to Survival, many of which are not immediately obvious, so it rewards practice. Once you've really got it down, it's phenomenal - in nearly 45 years of gaming, it's one of the most tense and exciting games I've played. Single-player Survival is also great...a lonely and very challenging affair. Check it out - it really is that good. 🙂
Very little customization but you definitely unlock gear as the game goes on. new attachments, bullet types, and new guns. There’s also a whole ass skill tree now
@@simonvanmaanen4015 In SE4 they didn't have a ton of customization per se, but they did have character packs and unlockable skins that were better than the original one.
Axis invasion is the closest thing to playing an enemy at the gates type game. I’ve killed 36 snipers, and I’ve gotten so into it I’ve found myself reciting Resnov from WAW while I hunt the enemy. I’ve even raided CO-OP players, shot down 1, incapacitated him, and used him as bait to lure out the other. This mode is great
It gets so hectic being invaded. I’m playing on hard and trying to stealth run the levels. Got invaded and blew my whole level to hell. But damn was it a climactic fight lol
Stuttering problem? Try to exit/turn off your mouse drivers like Razor etc, a friend of mine had crazy stuttering problems that went away after he did it.
Ok but can we just appreciate how the recommended video thumbnails are perfectly timed with the in-game sounds at the end of the video? Gameranx deserves kudos for that.
Important thing to note about multiplayer invasions is that it instantly saves your game when they enter and offers for you to reload there after the fight. So if you’re worried about it completely derailing your mission you do basically have a Time Machine
Sniper Elite V2 holds a special place in my collection, and I can't explain why. But I bought and enjoy them all. Rebellion Owner and CEO Jason Kingsley is just a cool guy as well. With his own, completely unrelated channel about medieval stuff. That's someone I want to support.
Playing on PS5, with the variable triggers it lets you ADS in third or first person pov depending on how far you push the triggers and it took a bit to get used to but it’s such a cool extra little feature. Only just started playing (played a lot of SE4) but two things are annoying me so far: the rattling cymbal music every 30 seconds (hopefully it’s just the first level!) and while you can see the stats of the weapons at the bench (which is awesome), but you can’t check it in the field (eg if swap ammo or weapons) 🤔
Which game is it best to start with? Will the story be confusing if I skip earlier games? I've been eying up this series for a while as it looks like hitman which I really like with a sniper focus in WW2.
It’s good to see stealth games come back and see it actually be good. I hope this shows other developers that the stealth genre is worth investing in showing that people are still willing to play these kinds of games
@@panscrank this is a stealth game. Just because it doesent completly lock you out of going guns blazing doesent take away the fact you can go full stealth

Some of the most enjoyable games I've played were found years after they came out. I found the Sniper Elite series when I upgraded my PS plus a couple of months ago. This is after finally getting a PS5 in January of 2023 Finished everything they put out for part 4 finished everything they put out for part 5 halfway through part 3 and going to purchase the remastered V-2. This series hits all the things that I like in a stealth shooter. My only complaint is 2 of my Co-Op team cannot play with the other 2 of us, at least in the campaign mode.
I like that the multiplayer actually has a progression system where you unlock cool outfits and other things. The fact they separated it (progression) from single player is huge win for them. Makes us play it more.
Got it on day one put about 4 hours in to the first map and absolutely loved it.. it's taken a decent game like se4 and upgraded it.. but the best thing is invasion, I got in to an intense 40 minute cat and mouse chase with this random that was just epic.. it ended with him falling prey to a body bomb and I felt like a badass mofo Anyhoo solid 9/10 for me

Sorry for blabbering this much, but wanted you to know! :D I liked Sniper Elite 3 alot and I haven't even tried 4. But I think after this video next month I'll buy this game now! It looks great and good improvements has been made since and I spot the same good things going on there with the improvements in everything so.... I'm getting this one! :D Thank you for your effort and you really do have the coolest job ever, so jealous, in a good way :D Keep up the good work!
Sniper elite 3 still my favourite personally, I feel like it had the best balance of open levels but still linear enough for them to set up the encounters really well. Idk why I played 4 then 3 and didn't like 4 and loved 3. Even when playing in co op in 4 I enjoyed 3 more.
@@maxsomerjoki8147 Even though it's linear I loved V2 and the atmosphere. This one is great too and the opening mission Atlantic wall they got it right with the hedgerows and farmhouses etc. A lot more depth in this game...definitely has replay ability.
I've always loved these games. I had high hopes for SE VR. While it was fun to play, I think it was a huge missed opportunity. As for this one, they have finally updated the graphics! All the SE games had always felt like they were behind the ball in this regard. All-in-all, I've never regretted buying one. Thanks Jake! Hope you feel better soon
I liked sniper elite vr. especially the narrative way the story is told, very immersive and hours of tense and sometimes nervewrecking gameplay, Plus the realistis reload feature which makes it one of the toughests games ever,
I beat it yesterday and I'm currently playing through again to get everything I missed and the only real thing I don't like and it's a personal gripe is there is no shotguns in the game for a secondary. 4 had them so I don't understand why they were excluded. I've gotten into a few situations where I had enemies rushing me and it would of have been nice to have a trench shotgun.
If only this review was remotely honest. Maybe he should spend less time bending backwards to the devs and actually compare it to SE4, which it vastly fails to meet the standards of.
Whoever’s read this, I pray that whatever your going through gets better and whatever your struggling with or worrying about is going to be fine and that everyone has a fantastic day! AMEN
Some things in this game make me very happy, and I haven't even gotten the game yet! -Bigger maps -France -The showing of the Swastika -Even cooler stealth mechanics (knocking out soldiers, hiding in boxes, ect) -More blood -Sweeter animations And oh I cannot wait to see some bios and hear some excellent German soldier voice-acting, oh can I not wait...
Vietnam would be interesting and a good fit, definitely. I was thinking if the series went too modern, the player could get bogged down worrying about GPS location and other computer crap that could distract from the action.
@@chrisdodson8118 I was thinking dropping Carl in Greece & Crete during the German/Italian invasion would be a good one, and a precursor to events of SE3
@@landeny65 Nice idea, though they've done Italy already, of course. I think Rebellion are so good at environments, I want them to go full jungle! (Vietnam.) Just make the patrol boats playable! 🤠
We’ve had a few settings, we’ve been been in Germany twice and then Africa, Sicily and now France. But this formula in another setting like the pacific, or another war like WWI, Korea, Nam or the war on terror (Iraq, Afghanistan) would be pretty cool, I’d especially love to go into the war on terror, going after high value terrorist organisation targets, shutting down terror plots. That would be SWEET!!!!
Think the biggest issue I’ve had is not being to Incapacitate enemies if they are leaning on the other side of a fence. I wish they made it like splinter cell style where you grab him and yank him over the fence and punch his face in to make him quiet. Other than that amazing fun game.
I think what makes this series unique is the fact that it is historical. I love ww2 history so for me if it were in the modern era it wouldn't be as interesting. Ghost Warrior I think it's called is set in modernity, check that out.
I agree with him that 3 was my favorite, especially online, in online multiplayer the map was open and way better in using the sniper, but in 4 the multiplayer sucked, everyone would always use the assault gun, like it’s a sniper game, not a call of duty. I just think overall 3 was the best, the 4th was good also in the story, had a lot more than 3 that’s for sure, can’t wait to play this one
pretty much what you'd expect (in a good way!) and the invasion mode is worth trying.

Just started playing this morning. Loving it so far. Play it slow, think before you do ANYTHING. It feels like I'm playing a splinter cell game
It’s just such a consistently good series. Not going out of it’s way to tack on new gimmicks. Just refining what it’s already good at.
I literally did that EVERY mission In 4, damn I wonder how many of these praising comments are bots, this one sucks and is the worst SE
@@nicholasholloway8743 Agree, guys must be getting paid to say this game rocks, because it doesn't. Feel the same way about 4 but the AI in 5 just sucks bad. V2 and SE 3 were more fun.
V2 is my favorite for the setting and the feeling it gives you when you play it, but overall I have to go with SE4 hands down my favorite SE game I logged so many hours into that game.
SE4's Survival mode is digital crack!
@@chrisdodson8118 what do you mean, I haven't tried out survival yet
I would love to see character custimization and being able to unlock new gear
Very little customization but you definitely unlock gear as the game goes on. new attachments, bullet types, and new guns. There’s also a whole ass skill tree now
@@dirpyturtle69 thats great for sure. But i just wanne be able to dress like a cool stealthy sniper
This mode is great
I only getting matched with hackers. 😅
It gets so hectic being invaded. I’m playing on hard and trying to stealth run the levels. Got invaded and blew my whole level to hell. But damn was it a climactic fight lol
@@jacoblauer1737 you can reload your save from before you got invaded or any manual save
I've played 1 through 4 and beat them all on sniper elite difficulty, great series.
Before you buy or before you install with Xbox gamepass😏
Stuttering problem?
Try to exit/turn off your mouse drivers like Razor etc, a friend of mine had crazy stuttering problems that went away after he did it.
Ok but can we just appreciate how the recommended video thumbnails are perfectly timed with the in-game sounds at the end of the video?
Gameranx deserves kudos for that.
Important thing to note about multiplayer invasions is that it instantly saves your game when they enter and offers for you to reload there after the fight. So if you’re worried about it completely derailing your mission you do basically have a Time Machine
The main characters voice always cracks me up!
Karl is not exactly Mr Charisma, but he'll do!
The missions feel so much bigger and I love it. My friend and I play co-op and I think it took us a couple hours just for the first mission. Can’t wait to see how much crazier it gets
I have to say it's a great game, and the more I play it the better it gets..
It's the first time I've ever got a Platinum Trophy on a PlayStation game..
Hope you feel better Jake!!
I love when games lean into slower paced stealth. That's why I always loved the early Splinter Cell games.
We’re supposed to be getting a Splinter Cell reboot at some point
@@KimonatorFilms As long as Ubisoft is Ubisoft I don't hold any hope it is any good and not a live service or other shenanigan's until proven otherwise
@@MinorZero yea i am definitely not getting my hopes too high for the new one. But maybe, just maybe it will be a return to greatness.
I appreciate your tone and presentation style. I feel like a friend is telling me about the game. I will certainly buy it now that I have watched your video.
Minor tip that will have huge impact...turn down the music to 15% The game is super fun and worth it, but man, the music really distracts me from hearing enemies and being stealthy myself.
Been a fan since V2 and excited for this new release. Actually still working on sniper elite 4 and enjoying it a lot.
Was wondering when there was gonna be a before you buy on this one and was lucky to see that it had just been uploaded 20 minutes ago! Always the most honest and realistic perspectives
I started playing sniper elite 5 a few days ago, its a blast, maybe I'll play 4 in the future
4 - you should, as it's fantastic.
It has been 5 years but last year, Sniper Elite VR released. It was a pretty decent game and a good VR game.
Sheeeesh thank YT feed for the quick recommend! Get well soon Jake!
It seems like they scaled down the bullet impact animations. SE 4 had way more skeleton breaks.
I accidentally took 5+ hours on the first level. On level 4 now and haven't found one eagle.
Stealth is the best. I like hiding and planning.
Splinter cell will come back someday...
@Jim Bianco hope not man ...chaos theory 2.cmon!
@@panscrank this is a stealth game. Just because it doesent completly lock you out of going guns blazing doesent take away the fact you can go full stealth
Stealth game? I'm rambo in this game 😆
Is every sniper elite game ww2? A modern game setting would be nice
What I would like to see is one taking place in Vietnam. Lots of jungle to hide in, booby traps, etc. Not enough games focus on Vietnam.
@@Gatorade69 that’s because the whole ordeal was more of a big war crime than a legitimate conflict. Same with iraq/Afghanistan.
@@PensFan35 I know and figured that. It isn't looked back upon as a good thing like WW2 is. However with what you said about Iraq and Afghanistan... There's plenty of games taking place in the middle East, though depending on the game they might be a bit fictionalized. I don't see a reason they can't fictionalized Vietnam a little bit.
@@PensFan35 Vietnam was not a war crime lol. It was a proxy war to prevent the soviets from expanding. A war crime was the Iraq war and we have plenty of games referencing the Middle East. Lol
@@Gatorade69 There are a lot of games focus on Vietnam, they should go unique, Korea War I say
If I have never played a Sniper Elite game before, would you recommend this as a first ?
I honestly might get it just for the sniper battles. I love that stuff lol
I really dig Sniper Elite, but I found it harder and harder to pull the trigger after I noticed the bios that come up on enemies that you’ve spotted
Been waiting for this, would have bought it for 100usd.
Thanks Jake love your work 👍🏽I agree with you so often even when it doesn't make sense like liking sniper 3 best!
I play this game daily, just played it a few hrs ago. And I played the 4th one for years too. Both r fantastic
Definitely the right move to have this on Gamepass day one.
Am i the only one getting the whole ghost recon breakpoint vibe with HUD and some of the game elements
"he was on the ground before we heard the shot"
Some of the most enjoyable games I've played were found years after they came out.
I found the Sniper Elite series when I upgraded my PS plus a couple of months ago. This is after finally getting a PS5 in January of 2023
Finished everything they put out for part 4 finished everything they put out for part 5 halfway through part 3 and going to purchase the remastered V-2.
Makes us play it more.
yup. in se4 you could just farm the AI to level up in campaign and it would transfer to multiplayer.
Sniper elite 3 was my entry to the series and my favorite. The world of North Africa was just beautiful!
Got it on day one put about 4 hours in to the first map and absolutely loved it.. it's taken a decent game like se4 and upgraded it.. but the best thing is invasion, I got in to an intense 40 minute cat and mouse chase with this random that was just epic.. it ended with him falling prey to a body bomb and I felt like a badass mofo
Anyhoo solid 9/10 for me
Wow! Thanks for the review and in general thanks for the "Before you buy" video! :) Since I found you're videos I've been entertained watching your content and I like a lot when you talk about older games too. I think I'm about your age, thinking about the games you guys have played, and it's nice just because there's a lot of games you have played and some of them I have of course played. But yeah, just wanted you to know that you keep me entertained every day and you're doing a good job and you're modest, honest, down to earth, straight and real about everything you decide to talk about. HUGE respect there from that! :D It was VERY nice when I commented two of you're videos both times about DayZ, and you quickly mentioned it after that in a video, thank you! ☺ It felt nice, and I subscribed quickly after that. Sorry for blabbering this much, but wanted you to know! :D
I liked Sniper Elite 3 alot and I haven't even tried 4.
Do you like SE2?
@@TheEternalOuroboros I haven't played 2 looked a bit too linear but might give it a go next time I run out of games
@@titularhero Honestly, might just be nostalgia speaking, but Sniper Elite V2 to me is the best one. most authentic
@@atdhemorina3348 True V2 had a way more authentic atmosphere and the uniforms and gore were more realistic
@@maxsomerjoki8147 Even though it's linear I loved V2 and the atmosphere. This one is great too and the opening mission Atlantic wall they got it right with the hedgerows and farmhouses etc. A lot more depth in this game...definitely has replay ability.
Man the verticality in some points of these maps looks so cool, like in the trailer and here at 8:12
Rest In Peace Tommy Vercetti
This is the exact kind of game I love. There are some bugs, and the difficulty doesn’t scale well with the gameplay, but I still love it.
That thumbnail is unique and disturbing at the same time anyways keep up the good work please

I liked sniper elite vr. especially the narrative way the story is told, very immersive and hours of tense and sometimes nervewrecking gameplay, Plus the realistis reload feature which makes it one of the toughests games ever,
The Owner is a legit Knight.
I played SE4 constantly for four years, could not wait for SE5 and I am really happy with it
The first ones were soo great n simple pure bone breaking…
I beat it yesterday and I'm currently playing through again to get everything I missed and the only real thing I don't like and it's a personal gripe is there is no shotguns in the game for a secondary. 4 had them so I don't understand why they were excluded. I've gotten into a few situations where I had enemies rushing me and it would of have been nice to have a trench shotgun.
thanks for always being honest with the reviews
Always!
If only this review was remotely honest. Maybe he should spend less time bending backwards to the devs and actually compare it to SE4, which it vastly fails to meet the standards of.
I feel like a regular Hugo Stiglitz when playing this game
Whoever’s read this, I pray that whatever your going through gets better and whatever your struggling with or worrying about is going to be fine and that everyone has a fantastic day! AMEN

Thank you! Right back at ya!
Very much needed and appreciated.
Thank you😊
Thx, bot
Some things in this game make me very happy, and I haven't even gotten the game yet!
-Bigger maps
-France
-The showing of the Swastika
-Even cooler stealth mechanics (knocking out soldiers, hiding in boxes, ect)
-More blood
-Sweeter animations
And oh I cannot wait to see some bios and hear some excellent German soldier voice-acting, oh can I not wait...
seems cool. an ac odessy style ww2 game would be cool. or rdr2 style ww2 game.
Looking forward to playing this. In the future, do y’all think they should stick to WWII or maybe try Vietnam or something else besides Modern times?
do like Vietnam and other wars then return to ww2 like Pacific or make a game with all fronts in WW2.
@@roskcity that would be cool. ANYTHING except for any type of modern warfare
Always fun and consistent. But this game really needs a setting change for the next game in the series.
Hope you get better soon jake
If 3 is technically your favourite then technically explain why
Think the biggest issue I’ve had is not being to Incapacitate enemies if they are leaning on the other side of a fence. I wish they made it like splinter cell style where you grab him and yank him over the fence and punch his face in to make him quiet. Other than that amazing fun game.
i love this series but am DYING for them to make a sequel in the modern era.
I think what makes this series unique is the fact that it is historical. I love ww2 history so for me if it were in the modern era it wouldn't be as interesting. Ghost Warrior I think it's called is set in modernity, check that out.
I'd love to see a prequel. Ww1 style

Loved this game. Specially "Spy Academy". It reminded me so much of Commandos II. Almost like a next gen, 1st person take on the Commandos franchise.
can you play it with a refresh-rate of 144hz on PC?
I agree with him that 3 was my favorite, especially online, in online multiplayer the map was open and way better in using the sniper, but in 4 the multiplayer sucked, everyone would always use the assault gun, like it’s a sniper game, not a call of duty. I just think overall 3 was the best, the 4th was good also in the story, had a lot more than 3 that’s for sure, can’t wait to play this one
