  • In Fresno, Calif., the coronavirus pandemic has magnified damage caused by decades of discriminatory housing practices. Residents of its poorest neighborhoods, mostly people of color, face eviction at a higher rate than their white neighbors. This video was released in partnership with Fresnoland: www.fresnobee.....

Landlords in a pandemic who are evicting poor people, what's your plan?
Like, do you think anyone else right now can afford to pay rent? You'll still just have empty houses.

They apparently collaborated with Fresnoland for this video, so maybe they also adopted Fresnoland’s policy of refusing to speak critically of the police in any way.

@@music4thedeaf Because California builds its Mason-Dixon lines out of concrete and asphalt. There was a point in the 1950’s when literally 100% of Fresno’s Black population lived in the Westside, due to discriminatory redlining. Home value accounts for most of the net worth of middle class families, so having been restricted to only buying a home in the poorest neighborhood at the industrial fringe of the city has a multigenerational impact on the wealth being passed on today.
The wealth divide between North vs. South Fresno is one of the largest in the nation. People talk about Shaw being the city’s line of blight, but it’s really just the line between old and new. Highway 180 is a much more significant border. Most of the big factories, warehouses, and poultry plants are South of 180. Most of the gang territory is South of 180. Kieshaun White’s research has shown a big difference in air quality South of 180, due to being so close to a tangle of freeways. A neighborhood South of 180 was found to have three times the rate of lead poisoning among children as in Flint. There’s a 20 year gap in life expectancy between the richest and poorest zip codes in Fresno, again one of the largest in the nation. You can predict whether a newborn baby in Fresno is more likely to live to be 60 or more likely to live to be 80 based on the color of her skin.
The pandemic has made the geographic divide even more stark, for the reasons mentioned in this video. Fresno currently has one of the lowest ICU availability rates in the country yet the city’s two Northernmost councilmembers are writing op-eds about how the real emergency is that business owners are losing money.

If a person doesn't study, what do you expect? If you fool around, and don't focus on some payable skills your not going to have a nice place.

Times are difficult but It’s time to stop blaming others and focus on improving ourselves it’s been long enough. Blaming others will only keep people complacent.
