The Carl and the Passions version will be released on The Beach Boys boxed set in November (“Spark in the Dark”). It’s probably an unfinished instrumental.
@@magictransistorradio4933 I haven’t heard the full tape. Apparently it’s roots are him revising loop de loop. The listens are certainly interesting. This version I view as superior-more focused.
If I had to pick my favorites from the Paley sessions, it would be Chain Reaction of Love, Gettin in Over my Head, Still a Mystery, Soul Searchin, and Must be a Miracle. Idk what track order would work best, but that selection of tracks is like the closest we'll get to a Pet Sounds 2.0.
This is a mash up of Loop De Loop in the end and the middle section of Wind Chimes, so that checks out. My tree on these are: Sail Plane Song -> Loop De Loop -> Spark in the Dark -> Beatrice from Baltimore -> You Need a Mess of Help to Stand Alone (Released, but Brian was unhappy) -> It’s OK (Released, produced by Brian, but he was unhappy with this -> Chain Reaction of Love Other tree: Wind Chimes -> Can’t Wait too Long (Split into two, the other big section was released as Wind Chimes) -> Body Talk (Grease Job) -> Chain Reaction of Love That line that often gets linked to Spark in the Dark is prominent in Mess of Help in the backing vocals if you give it a listen. Same tempo, same key, very different feel, recorded a week after Brian put the track down. Brian quit the sessions on this song’s rewrite…or didn’t show up. Given the change of the materials and dismissing of his other songs (Body Talk, Had To Phone Ya/Rooftop Harry, Out in the Country (itself a rewrite of a Day in the Life of a Tree), as well as not hiring his guy as producer (Brian wanted Sandler and Almer, Jack and Carl wanted Jack and Carl), you get a bit of a different view of why everything went for Zombie Pep Rally.
Love this song, and it now sounds clearer and punchier than the other sources. Would you mind if I use this in a Soul Searchin' fanmix? I'll credit you for the restoration in the desc. Thanks!
@@dmer-zy3rb There are the hard core fans that find a reason to like everything Brian ever did but I do believe he was still seriously messed up from the prescription drugs Landy gave him, more so than the cocaine and LSD from previous times. I really couldn’t listen to anything from that time period until his solo album in 1998 where he mostly recovered his voice or at least 60% of it. His voice from the early to mid late 1960’s IMO was about as good or better than anything I ever heard.
I wish this would get officially released! Perhaps my favorite song in Brian's solo years!

@@JW-hn9ck That is the origin of this song? I assumed Spark in the Dark was related to Funky Pretty.
@@JW-hn9ck I heard it! A few nice instrumentals by Brian.

Is 0:23 where Mike Love would have started singing?
Great catchy song from genius Brian.
Brians are nearly always catchy, a bit chaotic and they just are just powerful and raw.
Sounds great.
thanks for this-really top notch, you're doing god's work
love & mercy ✌️
Zombie pep rally. Wilson's post- _Smile_ output often straddles the brilliant and the grotesque.

easily the best solo Brian track so of course they didn’t release it.
The ending is awesome
Sounds great, do you have a flac download link?

Sure take it homie
Why didn’t they put this out instead of shitty baywatch songs? Oh yeah. Mike Love.
Not my favorite song about chain reactions, but good.
Painful to listen to Wilson around this time. Landy really messed him up.
Beach Boys fans actually mostly like this song!
