Not all these new ones that are built in USA. My 2008 Tundra had so many problems. Now my FJ from Japan is solid and not one problem after 4 years. Just like my old Tacoma when they were build in Japan.
Did people complain back in the day about SUV's not getting updated as much as they do now? How long did the K5 Blazer go with no significant updates? The Dodge Ramcharger went from 76-93 with hlbarely any updates. The Grand Wagoneer (original) was developed in the mid 60's and when they were discontinued in 1993, they were still basically the same. Not all of us need or want 20" screens everywhere with more features than youll ever use or all the comfort features possible. There's something to be said for being old school and more simple and many of us love that about toyota.
Keep it simple Toyota. Reliability is most important. I've owned 2 Camrys, 1 Avalon and a 4runner. I finally got my sister to buy a Toyota instead of Ford and she said I'll never buy another Ford.
I like the fact that it is simple. America used to make cars like this, basic honest transportation. Now there’s so much gadgetry that they’re maintenance nightmares. There are parts of the world where the sell this vehicle in Land Cruiser configuration with (get ready for this) vinyl seats, vinyl floors (no carpet) with 5 spd manual transmissions and manual transfer cases with steel wheels. Doesn’t get any more basic
I like this thing. It's a good platform to start with for overlanding. I've sen a 2018 with king shocks and some other offroad upgrades. Thing was tough. The review was pretty much the same as your first arrived video. Wish you would have had more driving involved. I know you're not afraid of going offroad; as I've seen your "close call" 4 Runner video - excellent driving in that by the way. Couldn't believe you got out of the hole.
Most of the complaints this guy talks about is for a larger video screen and more USB plugs. I own one. Want more USB? Simple- buy a $10 gizmo that plugs into any of the SEVERAL 12v outlets. And I do NOT need a bigger video screen. Meanwhile, the rest of this vehicle is a big, solid, long-lasting, well-made, and safe machine. Its a brilliant design. I love mine.
Just a minor correction... TRD "Sport" is different from TRD Off-road or TRD Pro. This TRD Sport is unique to Sequoia (I think), and has suspension tuned for street handling performance.
I wonder why Toyota is taking a long time to update the Sequoia. They can easily make a nice full size SUV that will be reliable and compete with the Tahoe and Expedition. I hope they are currently working on the next generation one.
The Platinum trim level has a power hatch and you can control it with your key. 2020 TRD Pro is coming soon (late summer) will have a larger screen with car play. That’s the one I’m waiting on... in army green!
Judging from what I see, Toyota is focusing on their car and compact suv market more than their truck/suv lineup. I think they are letting the American Brands take that market, hence the new Navigator, Yukon, Expedition etc.
They are now focusing on Crossovers. A 4Runner/Tundra/Sequoia redesign is coming in the next 3 or so years, but Toyota is in no hurry. The "American" Full Size SUVs are still are not as good as the "old" Sequoia. GM is still using ancient pushrods in 2018, crazy!
@@user-tb7rn1il3q I agree with you there, that's why I believe the Toyota's continue to sell in decent numbers. You can run them in the ground and it will not cost you an arm and a leg to fix! Cant say the same for when things go wrong on those Denali trucks...
@@tacoma171 GM Pushrod V8s have displacement on demand to improve the mpg, unfortunately they burn oil after 75k miles. GM also uses wax coated frames on their full size trucks. Most other brands have have E-coating on the frame. If I had to buy a new GM truck, I'd get the turbo 4.
Brian my point is people go on about the Tundra’s 32 valve, DOHC engine, but it’s not like the damn thing has class leading horsepower or fuel mileage (we all know it’s far from that). I love the 5.7 and it has tons of power and I can live with the mileage, but I’m also a realist and I’m not going to bad mouth GM’s engines which have served them quite well...
The interior is pretty much like the 07-13 Tundra. They could’ve at the very least updated it like the Tundra’s interior which itself is overdue for another update.
Heeeyah! Wait a minute, superman. You reached for the doorbhandle in the beginning with your karate outfit and then you kept on talking with your street clothes. Ha Ha, very smooth editing. Very nice video, too bad about fuel economy, love these big quality reliable trucks. When they eventually put in some turbo type engine, I hope it is not unreliable.
Great review, you are very engaging...not sure what the karategi situation was all about but you pulled it off....Now to figure out how to come up with the $$$ for that beast....
Is it that hard to add additional USB ports without having to refresh the whole thing? 2008 was the beginning of the smart phone boom (first iphone and first Android phone were released 2007), so there was definitely not as much of a need for USB ports back then.
Toyota really needs to step up their game on their infotainment system. Its 2019 and their tech is out dated, it almost seems as they haven’t change since 2010, that is a big gape to improve!
Americans and our "First World Problems". "Waaaaaah, my car only has ONE USB port. Waaaaah." "Waaaah, I had to FULLY extend my arm to turn on the radio." "Oh, the horrors of not having a digital speedometer." I just rented a non-TRD Sequoia for a long weekend and I FELL IN LOVE with this damn thing. I can't afford a new one and I don't even think it would fit in my urban garage, however, I was even impressed by the gas mileage (considering that it's a HUGE, heavy, V8 truck); so, I would not expect it to get similar gas mileage to a Toyota Corolla...…...it'd be nice, but I would not 'expect' it. Seems like it would be an absolute BEAST in snow. When I buy a vehicle, my only concerns are the reliability and durability of the engine and transmission components. IDGAF about heated steering wheels, push button gizmos, power seats, ball washers, etc. etc. All essentially meaningless bullshit that would be expensive to repair. I have had excellent fortune with every vehicle I've owned. Never had an engine, transmission or any major component problem. I currently have 155,000 trouble-free miles (and counting) on a Nissan CVT transmission. I found NOTHING to complain about in the Sequoia. 10/10.

I’m a Toyota guy and I have a 17 Tundra but all the criticisms against the Tundra and the Sequoia are completely justified. All Toyota had to do was stay a bit more on top of the electronics, the info stuff, throw in that couple extra geared tranny the Landcruiser ALREADY has, maybe tweak the engine a bit and people wouldn’t be so hard on either of these vehicles. Toyota is one friggen strange company. I understand the “if it ain’t broke” mentality but just do a bit more updating guys. I think the Sequoia looks pretty sweet and I love the new headlights and grill, but jeesh Toyota, stop taking you loyal customers for granted....
For that price, you can get a 4x4 short wheelbase NEW Sprinter with all the bells and whistles of a Mercedes and still get 19mpg and double the cargo space.. oh and 12 passengers inside.
This is tank, Toyota has it right. Don't change it if it sells. Everybody is asking for a new 4 runner, the 4 runner can go another 5 years, they have doubled sales. They need to get the next gen Sequoia and 4 runner right.
Interior looks rather gloomy, especially the dash shot at 9:55 makes it look like a B&W movie if the infotainment system wasn't there to reveal otherwise. I do still much prefer the tailgate on the Land Cruiser/LX but I suppose that comes with a $15,000 up-charge. Speaking of mileage, my LX now has 249,000. (Oops, my math is bad, closer to $25-30,000 more for the Cruiser. Still worth every penny.)
People complain about how boring the Sequoia is. Drive by a Ford or GM dealer and their SUV techs are hard at work servicing vehicles. However, go by a Toyota dealer and their Sequoia/SUV techs are in lounge chairs reading a magazine.
For the price you pay, I can't figure out why Toyota left out locking rear differential and crawl control. Also, for those who really want army green (me!), you need to pay the TRD Pro option price, which drives up the cost dramatically For someone like who doesn't need a flat bed truck (I have a 7000lbs-rated cargo trailer), who does significant overlanding and some off-roading (Dempster Highway, Nwt in a nutshell), who needs the towing cap...Sequoia would be fine if it gave me what I wanted at a fair price

I swear there are such soft handed lazy people talking about how everything isn't shiny and easier. These are more reliable than any US made vehicles. Love not breaking down with my family in our Toyotas.
No you get rid of the 3rd row and you put down an air mattress or just a couple inches of foam padding now you got a nice place for so called romance and also a safe comfortable place to stay out of the rain or snow if need be.
The manufacturing models for Toyota vs American Manufacturers are where you are drawing your nagging "please update this" complaints. American manufacturers, since the 60's, have relied on design changes to drive demand. Toyota has relied on quality to drive demand. No one cares about an automatic closing rear hatch in a vehicle that will do 1,000,000 miles (lookup the million mile tundra - which the sequoia is based on ). Also, TRD is more than "racing" as you quipped many times. They also develop off-road technology for their trucks.

Toyota last forever
Not all these new ones that are built in USA. My 2008 Tundra had so many problems. Now my FJ from Japan is solid and not one problem after 4 years. Just like my old Tacoma when they were build in Japan.
@guy proulx True. The best Tacomas were made in California while the ones from Texas and Mexico are competing for second place.
Sacapuntas yes. 4runners and certain rav4s are japan made. My camry 2018 se is from japan. J vin number.
Like I said before just get the 4Runner and save yourself $15.000 with better mpg and offroad needs.
3rd Row.
But that V8 though
4.6L V8 in the early 2000’s 4Runner are legendary! Wish they would still offer it...
at least they’re holding strong on Naturally aspirated engines!
Sequoia has more S P A C E
Nice first and last name, except it's spelled with a V not pH
This truck shouldve been switched over to push start
Imagine a Lexus version of the Sequoia
Loulitch I agree
Holy sh**
Lexus LX 570
@@rodneyh7693 The LX is the Lexus version of the Toyota Land Cruiser
Ah yes you are right, was thinking of the same 5.7l engine they all shared.
You know you can trust this review when it's coming from a black belt master who has learned the ways of self discriprine. *raughs*
I am pretty sure when the Tundra is updating, the Sequoia will follow through!, and this time with better looks, more power and fuel efficiency!
0-60 in under 7 seconds? That's faster than my scion tc
Imagine how fast your TC would be with the 5.7 V8.
Right Lane Hog if only it can fit lol
@@JonChenTS13 Where there is a will there is a way.
That’s the one I’m waiting on... in army green!
i think the all sequoia will be launch in 2020
The only updates this really needs is a transmission with 2-3 overdrive gears and a delete option on the infotainment system.
Brian I’m a Tundra driver, but big deal if GM is still using pushrods? Like who cares? If the system works why change it?
@@tacoma171 GM Pushrod V8s have displacement on demand to improve the mpg, unfortunately they burn oil after 75k miles. GM also uses wax coated frames on their full size trucks. Most other brands have have E-coating on the frame. If I had to buy a new GM truck, I'd get the turbo 4.
Brian my point is people go on about the Tundra’s 32 valve, DOHC engine, but it’s not like the damn thing has class leading horsepower or fuel mileage (we all know it’s far from that). I love the 5.7 and it has tons of power and I can live with the mileage, but I’m also a realist and I’m not going to bad mouth GM’s engines which have served them quite well...
if you you could find a used 17 or 18 with low miles that would work since they're basically the same vehicle.
19 has LED headlights wooo
That center console is identical to the one in my 2007 Tundra
The interior is pretty much like the 07-13 Tundra. They could’ve at the very least updated it like the Tundra’s interior which itself is overdue for another update.
Dude what's up with karate kid outfit?
The only issue is that Toyota does not offer the 2nd row bench on the top trim. I got swayed towards the Armada hence
You probably don't want to put your keys in the door handle or the compartment under. You still need them to start the dang thing. LOL!
I want a monster SUV....Wahhh I have to reach too far to play with the radio.
New interior and exterior is really needed. The tundra dash looks better and the transmission needs to be upgraded to an 8 speed
We have Toyota Diésel Engines and they are magnificent for Land Cruisers and Hi~lux/Tacoma.
Toyota really needs to step up their game on their infotainment system. Its 2019 and their tech is out dated, it almost seems as they haven’t change since 2010, that is a big gape to improve!
Cows and cowboys are home already!!
Americans and our "First World Problems". "Waaaaaah, my car only has ONE USB port. Waaaaah." "Waaaah, I had to FULLY extend my arm to turn on the radio." "Oh, the horrors of not having a digital speedometer."
I just rented a non-TRD Sequoia for a long weekend and I FELL IN LOVE with this damn thing.
I love the key.
for that price you could get a gx 460

Like to see a sequaia pro with a manual 4wd transfer
I think people nowadays want a 55” info system 🤔
Truck and full sized SUV sales still aren't what they were before the financial meltdown (for all the makes, not just Toyota).
For that price, you can get a 4x4 short wheelbase NEW Sprinter with all the bells and whistles of a Mercedes and still get 19mpg and double the cargo space.. oh and 12 passengers inside.
The Sprinter will bankrupt you when the warranty ends.
@@user-tb7rn1il3q Yes!

Best detail review ever,I thank thee
This is tank, Toyota has it right. Don't change it if it sells. Everybody is asking for a new 4 runner, the 4 runner can go another 5 years, they have doubled sales. They need to get the next gen Sequoia and 4 runner right.
Give me a key over push start any day
…what is the safety rating for this 4WD?
Left hand drive in Japan 🤦♂️
Interior looks rather gloomy, especially the dash shot at 9:55 makes it look like a B&W movie if the infotainment system wasn't there to reveal otherwise. I do still much prefer the tailgate on the Land Cruiser/LX but I suppose that comes with a $15,000 up-charge. Speaking of mileage, my LX now has 249,000. (Oops, my math is bad, closer to $25-30,000 more for the Cruiser. Still worth every penny.)
Reliable that is all that matters...
People complain about how boring the Sequoia is. Drive by a Ford or GM dealer and their SUV techs are hard at work servicing vehicles. However, go by a Toyota dealer and their Sequoia/SUV techs are in lounge chairs reading a magazine.
You can buy a front hitch for a Sequoia, then you can park your RV with no trouble.
The update came with an $80,000 price tag
😢🤢
Thanks!! Great presentation.
Has anyone towed with one of these? Good/bad? I have a car trailer and tow vehicles quite a bit.
But could it climb out after falling through an ice pond?
13 mpg wtf. Looks nice but WHERES THE TACOMA REDESIGN
For the price you pay, I can't figure out why Toyota left out locking rear differential and crawl control.
Also, for those who really want army green (me!), you need to pay the TRD Pro option price, which drives up the cost dramatically
For someone like who doesn't need a flat bed truck (I have a 7000lbs-rated cargo trailer), who does significant overlanding and some off-roading (Dempster Highway, Nwt in a nutshell), who needs the towing cap...Sequoia would be fine if it gave me what I wanted at a fair price
Yep
Tried and true. Way better than the twin turbo crap

5:43 ouch. Poor window tint :(
I wish they would put those seats back in the Tundra, like the previous Tundra model. Why toyota, why?!?!
I swear there are such soft handed lazy people talking about how everything isn't shiny and easier. These are more reliable than any US made vehicles. Love not breaking down with my family in our Toyotas.
You know what third row is good for ;-)
Richard Reyes no, please share your thoughts and opinions about how you use it in your personal life.

6:27 ScreenRant? Is that you?
The manufacturing models for Toyota vs American Manufacturers are where you are drawing your nagging "please update this" complaints. American manufacturers, since the 60's, have relied on design changes to drive demand. Toyota has relied on quality to drive demand. No one cares about an automatic closing rear hatch in a vehicle that will do 1,000,000 miles (lookup the million mile tundra - which the sequoia is based on ). Also, TRD is more than "racing" as you quipped many times. They also develop off-road technology for their trucks.
Is that center console lockable?
monzx3 no but the doors are.
there is no company in the world like Japanese company . think about other company if you’re car is broke casting a lot of money fixing but Toyota is not like this . in north of Europe most of the people are using Toyota because of something is broke you can find very easily . I have a friend he bout Mercedes Benz . it was automatic car something was happen in gearbox we visit mechanic he said the only way is possible contact with Mercedes company send new gearbox . by the way this is cast a lot of money finally he decided to sale his car
