Bless you Father! Your tour of the catechism is a beautiful exposition of the faith, delivered without the 'emoting' and hyperbole which some others tend to possess. Thank you for this invaluable aid to Catholics.

Do you take the first line of the Nicene Creed as designating the Holy Trinity as the one God, calling the Holy Trinity the Father of creation? There are some who assert that the one God the Father means that it is only the first Person of the Trinity who is properly called the one God. I know that the Creed goes on to speak of the Son and the Holy Ghost as Lord, and of the Son being consubstantial with the Father, so affirming equal divinity. Is it possible to read the Creed as affirming that the one God the Father means the one God is the Holy Trinity who together constitute our Father, before going on to use Father as the designation of the first Person when speaking of the internal relations of the Godhead?

Yes, the interpretation is important; and the interpretation of the council and the intent of the participants at the council was to directly confront the Arian Heresy that claimed that Christ was not God. To place the opposite interpretation on it and teach it that way is inaccurate and heresy. - Friar Roderic

@@franciscanfriars Thank you. I have encountered anti-Trinitarians who seek to exploit the interpretation of certain Eastern Orthodox proponents of reading the first lines of the Creed as designating only the First Person as the one God. That tends to demote the Son and the Holy Ghost as not being included in the "one God". The EO apologists' argument is that the Son and Holy Ghost derive their being from the Father, who alone is properly designated the "one God". I see that as tritheism, and it is sadly a common tendency among online EO apologists who criticize the "Western" emphasis on the unity of the Godhead as being in the Three Persons who are the one Essence. I should like to see more affirmation that the one God is the Holy Trinity, and that the Holy Trinity together constitute the Father of creation, and the Father of the faithful.
