I grew up in San Diego fifty years ago about two miles away from Cowles Mountain. Back in those days, I used to hike Cowles Mountain every month or two. I would occasionally see somebody else on the mountain, but that was rare. I now live in Oregon and really enjoyed your video as a blast from the past.
Love this hike! Grew up in San Diego and still love to drive down to and hang out on the beach. I have never hiked this trail. It is now on my bucket list. Good work! 😎
@@californiathroughmylens it is. Try lake Hodges. It has hiking trails plus flag on top of the rock. Not highest point in San Diego but view are really nice over lake.
Hey there! Thanks for the video! Love it i live 15 minutes away from that place and lot of people hiking there on a daily ! Great video very well explained! 🙏😊
Nice that you are traveling during this pandemic. Congrats on you and Amie for your baby in August. hope they are healthy and do not develop any problems since they were born prematurely.
Thanks for the comment! We are just keeping it really low key with local hikes and things like that. I appreciate the kind words about the babies as well, they are doing great!
California is so beautiful and such a gem. I would honestly move there and live there if it wasn't so expensive n the politics wasn't so nutty. As such visiting CA is enough for me.
Nice video as always! Great footage of trail and hike! Mission Trails is a true suburban oasis and treasure!! Cowles is San Diego City's high point; Cuyamaca (6,512') and Hot Springs (6,533') are the 2 highest points in San Diego County.
You can get to the top of Cuyamaca Peak via a paved road not accessible by motor vehicles. The view from the top is obscured. A grueling Mt. Bike climb with a blindingly fast descent.
My hood! Grew up in San Diego and could always see the mountain from all places mid city. However it's actually pronounced " Kohl's mountain " . Named after George A Cowles, one of San Diego's early prominent ranching pioneers. Love the view from there! Nice video as always!
I just moved here and I attempted to walk this (at night), and literally got to the .75 sign. I’m from the east, and our trails are 5 miles on flat land. This one I must condition for lol! I’ll do it again during the day then go back at night. Thanks for the views!!!
Lol, my wife and I were one of those "before work" people. We used to live in the apartments across the street and would run up it and down the backside a few times a week.
@@californiathroughmylens Haha! Most people pronounce it the wrong way, I learned from my history professor that it's named after an old San Diego family and their name was pronounced 'coals'.
"Cowles get's a lot of hate in the San Diego hiking community" Yeah, I sorta fall in that camp but I still take friends up Cowles if they aren't really big into hiking. My big gripe is just how damn busy it gets up there, I'll usually go for an approach up from Santee since it's a bit longer, a bit taller, has a bit more shade, and has a lot less people.
I don't know about a "hole" city. But you can see the whole City of San Diego. You can see all the way to Dana Point to the north and Mexico and Las Coronado's Islands to the South.
Great hike but it's so crowded unless you go super early or late. Oh, also, it's pronounced "koh-wools." LOL. The mission trails ranger corrected me multiple times 🤣
The back route is a much harder workout if that’s what you are hiking it for, route you took is waaay to busy, especially if you are hiking with a dog like I do
Fun fact, it is actually pronounced “coles” mountain! Great video! Maybe someday we will catch a hike together. Just getting my hiking channel kicked off!
