I'm completely new to amplifier repair. Just watched your video and followed along to check the bias in my amp. I dont yet have all the tools but have a good meter so that's a start. Had to replace two fuses the second time on the right channel and Bias looks ok. The first time had to replace all 4 fuses, it was used for subwoofer duty in a large theater. Thanks for sharing!
Nice work, i currently own the 555ii and love it. Sounds great and zero issues to date, knock knock. I have learned so much from watching your repairs so far, thank you for posting them.
I like seeing these older amps from the older generation. I used to have a sansui amplifier with those hat type transistors but it ended up burning up a channel because they went bad. Wish I knew how to fix these. I don't have that knowledge.
I had one of these years ago... the most dramatic suicide of an electrical component I've ever experienced. I was watching a movie and there was a loud CRACK followed by being deafened by my speakers making a loud pop that made my ears ring, then a cloud of smoke rolled out of the top of the unit filling the room with acrid smoke. Yikes.
Have you ever worked on those network onkyo recievers with the bad DSP chip causing no audio unless you enable pure audio mode? I've had many of those that I sent In to onkyo under recall to get repaired. They don't offer that anymore now they give you a discount on buying a new AVR if you send it in to them.
I leave the decision to the owner. As of now he decided to leave the original capacitors in it. I have not had time to do an extensive test of the main filter caps though.
I'm wondering if the bias adjusters should be sprayed with cleaner & moved back and forth through thier full range before adjusting, I've never seen anyone do this and it seems like something that should be done ?
Awesome! I can't wait to see the next part. Thank you so much!!

I think I have a 555II in the repair queue soon.
@@norcal715 Ha, hopefully not mine though
Legendary Amp! hard to imagine the bias was that far out of adjustment without someone (literally) screwing things up.

10:52.....the caps test perfect. ..why would you change them & risk changing the sound characteristics of the amp ??

That ain’t going to change the sound at all. That’s just for the power rails to the collectors.
amazing video.thanks

What was that little ploof of smoke at 11:51?
I think it was a cat hair. I have 5 cats. I did frame by frame and it did not change its shape.
