A Swedish guy lived down the street from me here in Canada. He decided in the 1960s to move to Dominica. This was back when Roseau was the only village with electricity. The government declared him ambassador and then gave him an office. He decided to host a boxing match right where that cruise ship docking place is now. They set up a ring and put a big spot light to illuminate the event. But when they turned on the light, it attracted all the bugs from the area and they could only get 1 match done because there was a swarm of bugs so large that you couldn't even see what was going on.

What a great story, thank you for sharing. We’ve spent about 2 weeks in Dominica 🇩🇲 exploring the entire island and most of its popular attractions and I must say that, this a great country, that it well maintained, the people are generally nice/welcoming , we stayed more in the foresty area about 15 minutes from Roseau which we had quite a few bug bites, so I can only imagine what it was like in the 1960’s. But overall i believe Dominica is too underrated , from its well preserved natural beauty , to its great beaches and cuisine , I would recommend anybody to visit one day 🙏🏿
