Quick sand has the properties to pull people down becuase it is saturated in water. Normal sand will just be dry and just fall to the ground as it happens in Minecraft. But in reality a block of sand will just fall and and get squashed on top of your head while the other parts will cover your shoulders and parts of your feet.

I think, that the village thing is called a Fata Morgana and it happens in really hot places. Things from all around the world can be seen, but they are just illusions

The reason why the raiders remaining is only 1 is because its a mechanic. If theres already few raider that didnt come from the raid itself, the raid will wait until that few raiders is killed, and then start the next raid. Its commonly used in some farms
