I made my own poles. The best advice is no advice. But pick each pole for its purpose. Door pole, back poles, lift pole and smoke fap pole and all frame poles

Traditionally it's the women's job to set up a teepee. At pow wow someone ask me and friend to help set up their teepee. We laughed and said that's a woman's job. But we helped, we were just joking around with them.
I'm Cree, but I've never used a ladder too pin the teepee. You can use the rope hanging down from the poles to make a ladder with two poles in the entrance. We call that an Indian ladder.
Why cant you just use 5 poles for a teepee? How did Natives transport these massive poles? Did they just transport the teepee cover then cut new poles at every camp spot?
Along with CC's comment about the teepee being smaller, in the past. The poles would be used to make the travois for carrying the family's effects, and other poles. Also materials would be cached at known points along the seasonal routes. This was related to me by some co workers who are Blackfoot. I imagine it was similar for the other nations
